THAT PROCESS IS BEST SERVED WHEN ALL INVOLVED FOCUS ON THE ISSUES RATHER THAN THE PERSONALITIES. JUST A FEW HOUSEKEEPING MATTERS IN THE EVENT OF EMERGENCY. AS COORDINATORS OF THE MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS PROGRAM, MY TEACHING PARTNER AND I SERVE CLOSE TO 130 ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS. THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS HAVE BEEN A TIME OF REBUILDING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN STUDENTS AND SCHOOLS IN THE WAKE OF THE PANDEMIC. WE FOLLOWED DR. DOMINGUEZ'S INITIATIVES TO BUILD A SENSE OF BELONGING AND INCREASE ATTENDANCE RATES. WE'RE NOW FACED WITH ANOTHER NATIONAL SITUATION THAT THREATENS TO DISRUPT OUR STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT SCHOOL IS AND WHETHER THEY BELONG HERE. HERE ARE SOME STUDENT COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS WE'VE RECEIVED THIS WEEK. WILL ICE COME INSIDE OUR SCHOOL TO GET PEOPLE? [00:10:03] WHAT DO WE DO IF WE'RE OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL AND THEY START ASKING US FOR INFORMATION? I WAS NOMINATED FOR AN AWARD, BUT I'M AFRAID MY FAMILY WILL BE SENT AWAY BEFORE I GET IT. I'M WORRIED THAT THE GOVERNMENT WILL COME TO SCHOOL TO TAKE ME. I'M AFRAID THAT MY FAMILY WILL BE DEPORTED AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY PARENTS. THIS IS A LONG ONE. THEY ATTEND ALL WACOM COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGES. WE HAVE A MANDATE TO CONTINUE TO EDUCATE THESE STUDENTS TO KEEP THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT A PLACE OF SAFETY. WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR SCHOOLS AND KEEP THEM FOR SCHOOL PURPOSES. WE ALSO NEED TO REDUCE OUR STUDENTS SENSE OF PANIC BY PROVIDING THEM ACCURATE EDUCATION ON THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS. I'VE BEEN WATCHING A LOT OF THE TVW LIVE BILLS THAT ARE GOING ON AND LISTENING TO THE TESTIMONY, AND I SEE WASDA PEOPLE IN THERE AND OTHER FOLKS THAT I KNOW THROUGH CONNECTIONS THROUGH THE LEGISLATIVE REP NETWORK, SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF ALL OF OUR DISTRICTS. AND I COULD GIVE YOU SOME PARTICULARS, BUT I THINK THAT MIGHT BE A LITTLE BORING. I THINK THAT'S ABOUT ALL I HAVE. THERE ARE SOME OTHER BILLS THAT HAVE TO DO WITH EDUCATIONAL THINGS. JUST A LEGAL LANDSCAPE UP DATE, THE RECENT REVERSAL OF 2024 TITLE 9 REGULATIONS. AS OF NOW, THE 2024 TITLE 9 LEGISLATION IS NO LONGER EFFECT ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY AND TO COMPLY WITH CURRENT LAW. ALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS SHOULD REVERT TO THE PRIOR 2020 TITLE 9 POLICIES AND PROCEDURES THAT WERE IN EFFECT UNTIL THE START OF THIS CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR. THEY GO ON TO LINE OUT. WASDA HAS UPDATED SOME OF THEIR MODEL POLICIES TO BE IN COMPLIANCE, AND THREE THAT HAVE BEEN REINSTATED, WE ALREADY HAVE, I CHECKED 3205, 3211, 5011. WE HAVE ALL OF THOSE POLICIES. THEN THEY ALSO SAID THAT WE NEED TO DELETE SOME OF THE POLICIES WE HAVE, AND THEY LISTED THOSE AND WE HAVE THREE OUT OF FOUR OF THOSE POLICIES. WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT THE PROCESS OF DOING THAT. I COULD HAVE STAYED THERE ALL NIGHT TALKING TO THEM. IT WAS SO EXCITING LEARNING ABOUT THE DIFFERENT LANGUAGES, SOME OF WHICH I HAD NO IDEA THERE WAS SUCH A LANGUAGE. BUT JUST THE EXCITEMENT THAT THEY HAD ABOUT TALKING ABOUT THE KIDS THEY WERE WORKING WITH AND THEIR PROGRAM, AND THEN WE WERE PLOTTING ABOUT STARTING DUAL LANGUAGE KINDERGARTEN. AGAIN, WHAT ANTONIO TALKED ABOUT, EDUCATING THE PEOPLE, LETTING THEM KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITY, I THINK IS AN IMPORTANT ROLE OF US AS THE BOARD MEMBERS.
