THE PURPOSE OF THIS MEETING IS TO CONDUCT THE BUSINESS OF THE BOARD.

THAT BUSINESS IS TO MAKE DECISIONS AND POLICIES THAT REFLECT THE WISHES OF THE COMMUNITY AND SUPPORT THE EDUCATION OF EACH CHILD.

AN OPEN DISCUSSION OF VARYING OPINIONS ON ISSUES BEST SERVES THIS PURPOSE AND THAT'S THE REASON WE CONVENE.

A COUPLE OF INFORMATIONAL ITEMS FOR THOSE WHO MIGHT BE NEW, THERE ARE EXITS THERE BACK HERE, SHOULD THE BUILDING CATCH FIRE OR SOME OTHER HORRIBLE THING.

IT'S JUST AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF WORK THAT YOU DO ON BEHALF OF KIDS, SO WITH GREAT APPRECIATION, THANK YOU.

THEY ARE TYPICALLY STUDENTS THAT HAVE MORE COMPLEX NEEDS, AND THEY SPEND THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME IN THREE DIFFERENT ROUTES.

ONE IS IN THE CLASSROOM-BASED SETTING THAT THEY WOULD DO A COMMUNITY TRANSITIONS BUT ALSO OUT IN THE COMMUNITY FOR SOCIAL, AS WELL AS JOB-RELATED REASONS.

THOSE ARE THE TWO, AND THE OTHER HALF OF OUR COMMUNITY TRANSITION STUDENTS, THEY ARE SPENDING MAJORITY OF THEIR TIME HERE IN PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT TO LEARN JOB SKILLS.

SOME ARE ATTENDING BTC, A COUPLE ATTEND [INAUDIBLE], SOME ARE WORKING ON HIGH SCHOOL COURSES COMPLETION.

THOSE STUDENTS COME TO THE COMMUNITY TRANSITION SITES ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK.

THEY ZOOM, AND THEY'RE ALSO OUT IN OUR STEP SUPPORT ECONOMIC.

OUR STAFF HAS TAKEN SOME STRONG STEPS TO PUT POLICIES IN PLACE, AND I'D JUST LIKE TO HEAR A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS.

AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, IT'S VERY LIKELY THAT THE MAJORITY OF OUR KIDS ARE CARRYING A CELL PHONE.

BUT AGAIN, THEY ARE ASKED TO BE TURNED OFF AND STORED IN THEIR BACKPACKS DURING SCHOOL HOURS.

AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, IT'S A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT WHERE THERE ARE SOMETIMES THAT THEY ARE USED AS A TOOL IN A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT, THOSE ARE DIRECTED BY OUR TEACHERS.

THERE'S A GREEN, YELLOW, RED SYSTEM IN PLACE WHERE THE RED IS THEY'RE OFF AND AWAY; THE YELLOW, THEY CAN HAVE THEM NEARBY; AND GREEN WHEN THEY'RE GOING TO BE USED FOR A CLASSROOM ACTIVITY.

WHAT WAS HAPPENING, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS THAT FRIDAY THAT WAS VERY COLD, DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THAT? I WAS [INAUDIBLE] AND PARENT PICK UP AND DROP OFF, AND THAT IS FELT THROUGHOUT OUR ENTIRE ELEMENTARY COMMUNITY.

WHAT HAPPENED IS BECAUSE WE HAD LESS STUDENTS WALKING, WE HAD MORE STUDENTS TRANSPORTING THEIR STUDENTS.

THERE WAS A SITUATION WHERE IN ORDER TO TRY TO GET THE CARS OUT OF THE SKYLINE PARKING LOT, WE HAD A STAFF MEMBER THAT WAS TRYING TO STOPPING TRAFFIC ON COURT TO ALLOW THE CARS TO EXIT THE SKYLINE PARKING LOT.

BECAUSE WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS IT WAS GETTING CONGESTED TO A POINT WHERE MORE NEED TO GET THEM OUT ONTO A FORM AND GET CARS OUT OF THE PARKING LOT.

WHAT HAPPENS IS THERE WAS ALSO A VIEWER TRAFFIC COMING DOWN THE CASCADIA TRAFFIC DURING DISMISSAL TIME.

IT WAS REALLY BACK THIS WAY.

A SITUATION WHERE ONE OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS WAS ATTEMPTING TO STOP TRAFFIC, PERMITTING THE CAR ROLL INTO AS IT WAS ON TRYING TO STOP TRAFFIC.

HE IS OKAY. BUT WHAT WE CONTINUE TO DO NOW, IS TRY TO REEXAMINE OUR EXISTING SYSTEMS TO FIND A BETTER WAY.

IT WAS INTERESTING WHEN I WAS REFLECTING ON THAT WITH ONE OF OUR APS, HE GOES, "I EXPLAINED WHAT THEY DESCRIBED IS WHAT WE USED TO SEE.

WE'RE JUST NOT SEEING IT NOW BECAUSE IT'S JUST CHANGED." WE KNOW HOW IMPORTANT FACILITIES ARE.

JAKE, YOU MENTIONED THAT WHEN YOU SEE THE STRATEGIC PLAN, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE VERY INTENTIONAL TO CALL OUT IS ONE OF THE FOUNDATIONAL PIECES IS OUR OPERATIONS AND OUR FACILITIES THAT HAS TO BE THOUGHT ABOUT.

WE GOT TO SEE ONE OF OUR REPRESENTATIVES' FIRST-EVER BILL PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.

IT WAS FOR AFFORDABLE CHILDCARE IN WASHINGTON STATE AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY COOL TO SEE BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS SO SUPPORTIVE OF HIM.

IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS A GOOD BILL THAT WILL DO GOOD IN OUR COMMUNITIES.

THEN ALSO TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF SECOND SEMESTER FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS AND I THINK MIDDLE SCHOOLERS AS WELL.

EVERYONE GOT NEW CLASSES, CHANGED THEIR SCHEDULE, AND WE'LL HAVE OUR SECOND DAY OF NEW CLASSES/NEW SCHEDULE TOMORROW SO IT'S GOLD DAY, BLUE DAY.

I THINK THE NEW SEMESTER IS GOING TO BE EXCITING ESPECIALLY SINCE AS PART OF [INAUDIBLE] CAREER IN EDUCATION CLASS, WHICH IS REALLY COOL BY THE WAY I TOTALLY RECOMMEND LEARNING ABOUT IT OR TAKING IT, OR VISITING IF YOU CAN BECAUSE THE ENTIRE FIRST SEMESTER IS LEARNING ABOUT THE PHILOSOPHIES BEHIND EDUCATION AND EFFECTIVE DIFFERENT TEACHING STYLES.

SECOND SEMESTER WE GET TO DO PRACTICALS WHERE WE GO IN THE CLASSROOM AND ACTUALLY OBSERVE AND ASSIST MIDDLE AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS.

THEN THE BAND CAME OUT TO SUPPORT AT THE HOME GAME SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY COOL THE DISTRICT CHEERLEADERS BRINGING ALL THAT SPIRIT.
