[1. CONVENE]
[00:00:24]
[2. PUBLIC COMMENT]
[00:09:21]
ANYTHING ELSE ON PUBLIC COMMENTS STUFF?>> I MEAN, A COUPLE OF PEOPLE HAVE ASKED ME HOW THIS IS JUST ALL PANDER, AND IT COULD BE A DISCUSSION FOR A LATER MEETING AS WE GET TOWARDS THE END, BUT CAN THE SCHOOL STRIKE AFFORD OR MAINTAIN THIS BUILDING? THAT'S THE COMMENT.
CAN THE DISTRICT AFFORD TO MAINTAIN THEM? YEAH. TO BE PROACTIVE WITH MAINTENANCE ON THIS BUILDING.
>> YES. [INAUDIBLE] I THINK ABSOLUTELY.
>> THE AMOUNT OF MAINTENANCE THAT WENT INTO THE BUILDING JUST TO KEEP IT [INAUDIBLE] A BLOW.
[00:10:01]
>> IT'S PROBABLY GOING TO SPEND SIGNIFICANTLY LESS TIME DOING BETTER MAINTENANCE.
>> IT'S A LITTLE BIT OF A TRADE-OFF.
IT'S MORE TIME-CONSUMING, BUILT INTO CLEAN, SO IT'S GOING TO PROBABLY MORE IN CUSTODIAL.
BUT IT'S A WAY MORE EFFICIENT GOING TO MAINTAIN.
ALSO, WE'LL THEN WEIGH LESS IN MAINTENANCE.
>> HE SAW THAT TODAY FOR THOSE OF US THAT WERE ABLE TO WATCH THE 400S COME DOWN.
TODAY, YOU SAW HOW EASILY THEY CAME DOWN AND YOU REMEMBER IT COULD BE BEING A DESIGNER TO KEEP THAT BUILDING GOING.
IT'S JUST LIKE, "OH MY GOD." REMEMBER THAT? ALL THOSE THINGS.
THE PIGGYBACK ON THAT ONE MAINTENANCE FACILITY.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH DRIFTS UPON THE COMMON THROUGH?
>> A CORNERSTONE WENT UP THERE.
IT DIDN'T DRIFT A LITTLE BIT ON THE SOUTHERN.
ONE OF MY MAIN CONCERNS WAS SPELLED COMING.
I'M JUST TRYING BEFORE WE HAD THAT STORM, SO THAT WAS PRETTY GOOD.
>> MY FEAR WAS JUST A DRIFTS COMING UP OVER THE GYM AND SIT LIKE POPULAR COMMON VERB IS WHERE THERE WASN'T MUCH FOR ME, THAT WAS MUCH SNOW AND THE WIND AND FIRST THING IS [INAUDIBLE]
>> ANYTHING ELSE ON PUBLIC COMMENT BEFORE WE MOVE ON? WITH THAT, WE'LL MOVE ON TO UNFINISHED BUSINESS AND GET AN UPDATE ON THE COMMITTEE.
[3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS]
OUR MINI ACTUALLY HAD A MEETING LAST WEEK, WHICH IS THE FIRST ONE IN QUITE A WHILE.I THINK I SHARED LAST TIME TO OUR ORIGINAL CURATOR HAD SOME FAMILY ISSUES ARISE AND HAD TO STEP AWAY FROM THE PROJECT.
WE'D HAVE OUR STATE PROJECT LEAD, PUT TOGETHER A MEETING AND A LIST OF NEW CURATORS, AND THE GOOD PART ABOUT THAT.
WE'RE ACTUALLY SO OUR NEW WE'D KNOW THE COMMITTEE'S MAT LAST WEEK WENT THROUGH PROCESSES THAT SELECT THE NEW CURATOR FROM BELLINGHAM.
OUR SAFE PROJECT MANAGER, VALERIE, WE REACHED OUT TO BE IF THEY COULD GET HER ON BOARD.
I WON'T SAY WHO IT IS YET BECAUSE I HAVEN'T HEARD THAT SHE ACTUALLY OFFICIALLY OUR EARTH-SUN.
HOPEFULLY, WE'LL BE BACK ON SCHEDULE AND READY TO MOVE FORWARD TO ART IN THE BUILDING OPENING IN THE FALL.
HOPEFULLY, I'LL HAVE MORE TO REPORT SOON.
WE'LL KEEP IT ON THE OLD BUSINESS AS NECESSARILY.
I THINK I SKIPPED OVER 3.1, LIKE PUBLIC EDUCATION STUFF.
IT LOOKS LIKE THOSE UPDATED DASHBOARD, AND IT LOOKS LIKE THE REORGANIZED THE CRITICAL PROJECTS WORK A LITTLE BIT.
THOSE ARE STAFF THOSE DDC ARE THE. YEAH.
>> YES. WE'VE HAD SOME THINGS SHIFTING AROUND BUT WE'RE IN OUR FINAL LANDING SPOT FOR THOSE PROJECTS.
THOSE ARE ALL ON THE BOOKS, ALL SCHEDULED AND ACCOUNTED FOR IN THE BUDGET.
THAT SHOULD BE THE FINAL ITERATION OF THAT.
>> MALES HAVE QUESTIONS ON THE DASHBOARD?
>> AGAIN, NOT HOT WATER TANK FIRST PLACEMENT, THOSE BROWN BLOCKS FOLLOW THE FIBER.
>> WAS SLATED FOR THE SUMMER ON WHERE ABOUT.
>> TO THE FAR LEFT IT SAYS IT'S COMPLETED.
[00:15:01]
DREAM BLOCKS THEM OFTEN.>> I THINK THEY COMPLETELY SOME THAT.
>> ALL RIGHT. I'LL JUMP BACK FOR THEIR BRACE.
OTHER ITEM WAS JUST A FOLLOW-UP FROM THE QUARTERLY REPORT LAST MONTH.
IN LIEU OF OUR MEETING, I PRESENTED TO THE BOARD RIGHT BEFORE THE HOLIDAY.
THAT'S WHAT QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED.
I THINK THE BIGGEST QUESTION TO RELAY BACK IS JUST THE TIMELINE OF OUR GROUP AS A FUNCTIONING COMMITTEE AND THEN THERE WERE SOME QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD REGARDING THIS TYPE OF GROUP EXISTING FOR FUTURE BOTTOM GOOD.
IT CAN BE A TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION.
I THOUGHT THAT OUR COMMITTEE WOULD BASICALLY BE IN EXISTENCE UNTIL ESSENTIALLY THE BOND MONEY IS CLOSED OUT.
PROBABLY COMPLETION PLUS A COUPLE OF MONTHS TO GET ALL THE FINANCIAL STUFF SORTED OUT.
THEN I THOUGHT THAT THE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE HAS BEEN A POSITIVE, I GUESS I'M BIASED, BUT I HOPE IT'S BEEN A POSITIVE ADDITION FOR THE BOND WORK IN THE DISTRICT, I SAID WOULDN'T NECESSARILY MAKE IT A REQUIREMENT OF EVERY BOND THAT YOU EVER DO.
BECAUSE PROBABLY ISN'T NECESSARY FOR SOME SMALLER WORK THAT WILL EVENTUALLY BE NEEDED IF PETER'S GOING TO GO FOR A SINGLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OR REMODELED TYPE ON ACTIVITY, I DON'T SEE IT PROVIDING THE VALUE THAT IT ON THIS SCALE.
BUT THE PERTAINS TO LEAN TOWARDS WANTING TO HAVE THIS COMMITTEE I THINK IT TAKES SOME PRESSURE OFF OF THEM.
THEY CAN FOCUS ON THE DISTRICT OPERATIONS INTO PROBLEM THAT SIDE VERSUS HAVING INVESTED TOTAL TIME INTO THE BOND WORK.
BUT ANYWAY, I'LL STOP TALKING.
>> JUST LET US INVEST A TON OF TIME INTO THE BOND BOARD COMMITTEE.
>> WELL, I MEAN, THE REALITY IS WE HAVE WHEN THIS GROUP WAS SET UP TO PEOPLE THAT KNOW THAT STUFF MORE THAN-
>> YEAH. NO, I DON'T DISAGREE.
>> THAT'S WHAT I THINK MELINDA WAS FOR THE SAME VIEWS, BACK THE EXPERTISE.
>> YEAH. I DON'T THINK THEY WANT TO BYPASS THEIR ROLE.
THEY JUST SAW THAT THERE WAS AN ADDED VALUE AND IT TOOK SOME PRESSURE OFF OF THEM HAVING TO DIG INTO THE DETAILS TO ASK QUESTIONS BECAUSE THEY ALREADY GET ASKED HERE.
IT'S MORE WHEN I GOT A LITTLE MARKING.
>> I WOULD SUPPORT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING, AND PROBABLY JUST PHRASE IT SLIGHTLY DIFFERENTLY.
>> WHAT IT DOES IS PROVIDE A BIT OF A SECURITY BLANKET.
IT'S LIKE PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY KNOW THIS STUFF AT WORK IN THIS AREA THAT CAN GET INTO DETAIL SYSTEM, THIS POINT WELL.
ANYTIME YOU'RE SPENDING PUBLIC MONEY, YOU'VE ASKED THE TAXPAYERS THAT THEY COULD BE DOING OTHER THINGS WITH.
IT COMES WITH A HIGHER LEVEL OF SCRUTINY.
HAVING A HIGHER LEVEL OF SCRUTINY FROM THE PUBLIC TO SAFETY SUPPORT THE FACT THAT INTO GROWING WELL.
I THINK IT DOESN'T CIRCUMVENT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE IT'D BE ABOUT MICHELLE TO HAVE EXTRA EYES ON THEIR TRANSPARENCY.
THERE'S SCRUTINY. THERE'S A HIGHER LEVEL OF ATTENTION ON BOTH INTERNALLY AND THEN EXTERNALLY BECAUSE IT'S PUBLIC FUNDS.
I KNOW THEY'RE VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THE WORK YOU'RE DOING WITH THE HIGH RATE.
[00:20:03]
HIGH. THAT'S WHAT THE CONVERSATION CAME UP, THAT YOU PROBABLY DO SOME VERSION OF THIS ON, I WILL THINK ALL PRODUCTIONS.SMALLER PROJECTS, MAYBE NOT AS LARGE OR AS FORMAL COMMITTEE, BUT I THINK HAVING AN EXTRA LAYER OF SUPPORT IS PRETTY VALUED.
>> THEY SAY, AND IT'S GOOD, I GUESS, PRINTING IS STILL GOING TO HELP US WITH THE, BUT I THINK WE HAVE PROBABLY HAVE MORE CANDIDATES, WE'RE NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT ON THE STATEMENTS AND WHAT THE SCHOOL BOARD WAS PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE IN THESE MEETINGS VERSUS THEIR MEETINGS.
[INAUDIBLE] THAT MUST HAVE BEEN GOOD.
>> IF I HAVE ANY INPUT ON TIMELINE, OR I DON'T SEE ANY, I WAS HOPING THAT.
>> I WAS HOPING WE CAN GET IN THAT [OVERLAPPING]
>> [INAUDIBLE] NOVEMBER OR OCTOBER LET'S SEE [OVERLAPPING].
>> RIGHT. I'D BE OKAY WITH MARCH.
>> BUT I WOULD THINK BIO COMPLETION SLATED OR VIRTUALLY A YEAR FROM NOW AT LEAST OR [BACKGROUND]
>> PROBABLY THROUGH THE REST OF THIS YEAR.
AGAIN, IT'S ALL WRAPPED UP WITH A NICE $0.1 UNDER BUDGET, [LAUGHTER] BUT WE GO AT THE END OF THE YEAR.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, I GUESS FOR ME ON THE BOARD MEETING?
>> DO WE HAVE TERM LIMITS OR BY-LAWS?
THERE IS AN ANNUAL SUPPOSED TO RE-ELECT OFFICERS OR WHATEVER [OVERLAPPING] ANNUALLY.
I DON'T KNOW WHEN WE DID THE LAST.
BASICALLY TOLD ME TO JUST KEEP DOING WHAT I'M DOING, SO WOULD PROBABLY HAVE DONE IT AGAIN.
BUT SOMEBODY ELSE WANTS TO SPEAK EXTENSIVELY AT THE AGREEMENTS.
[BACKGROUND] IT'S MY [BACKGROUND].
I DON'T EVEN KNOW, FIRST OF ALL, YOU'RE DOING A MOTION [OVERLAPPING]
>> I GUESS THE REASON I ASK IS, SHOULD THERE BE [BACKGROUND] SO THAT IT'S NOT THE SAME EXACT GROUP FOR [BACKGROUND] FROM A MORE INCLUSIVE PUBLIC PROCESS THE WAY I WROTE THAT.
>> I THINK JOE WAS ACTING THE BOND COMMITTEE SERVICE IN THE TERM OF THAT BOND.
>> IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK IT IS?
>> RIGHT NOW IT'S SET UP THAT THE EUROPE BOARD AUTHORIZED.
>> BUT SOON AS THE PROJECTS ON THE BOARD WAS EFFECTIVE [INAUDIBLE].
ONCE THE NEXT PROJECT START SO ACTIVATING MID-COMMITTEE.
>> [INAUDIBLE], MAYBE JUST WANTED TO GO OVER THE BYLAWS JUST SO THAT THE NEXT GROUP MAYBE HAS A NICE.
THERE'S STUFF IN THERE THAT WE COULD PROBABLY CUT OUT.
>> NOT A BAD IDEA. WE CAN DO IT.
WE CAN EVEN TO NOT TAKE UP A BUNCH OF TIME AT THIS MEETING?
>> GOOD TO PASS IT AROUND AND EDIT IT AND THEN BRING IT HERE FOR THE BOARD. [OVERLAPPING].
>> I THINK A FINAL BREACH OF A BOARD WE'RE GOING TO HAVE SOME OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS, IT COULD HAVE SOMEBODY.
MAYBE WE DO THAT AS A STUDY SESSION WITH THE BOARD SO EVERYBODY CAN COME AND HAVE A MORE OF A DIALOGUE.
THAT RECOMMENDATION [INAUDIBLE] ALONG THE WAY.
>> JUST FOR YOUR SPECIFIC QUESTION.
JUST QUICK, MEMBERS MUST BE WILLING TO SERVE THE ENTIRE TERM WHICH WILL BE NO LESS THAN THE LENGTH OF THE SPECIFIC FIRM THEY WERE APPOINTED TO OVERSEE.
THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T SERVE ON THE NEXT BOARD [OVERLAPPING].
IF THERE'S NOTHING ELSE ON THE QUARTERLY REPORTS, MOVE ON TO NEW BUSINESS AND WE'RE
[4. NEW BUSINESS]
SPENDING AND I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S SEVERE, PLAN TO SHINE?[00:25:09]
>> YEAH. ON THE EXPENDITURE SUMMARY, WE DID HAVE SOME DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WHAT HEIDI'S NUMBERS WERE AND WHAT TAMMY'S WERE.
I THINK, AND TAMMY PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M INCORRECT, BUT IF I'M UNDERSTANDING IT CORRECTLY, THERE WERE SOME PAYMENTS MADE IN JANUARY THAT GOT LUMPED INTO THE TOTAL EXPENDITURE THAT MADE THAT NUMBER GO HIGHER THAN HEIDI'S, AND THAT IT'LL BE WASHED OUT BY THE END OF JANUARY.
IS THAT A FAIR WAY TO DESCRIBE IT?
>> WELL, IT IS SUPPOSED TO GO ON THE REPORT.
I BELIEVE IT WAS RECORDED ON THE REPORT, THAT THE CHECK DIDN'T GO OUT UNTIL JANUARY.
IN THE PAST, HEIDI AND I WE WOULD TAKE LONG [BACKGROUND] IT'S JUST A MATTER OF WHEN THE PAYMENT WAS PROCESSED.
>> OKAY. THEN IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING, HEIDI, WILL GET BACK TO DOING THAT REGULARLY AGAIN FOR OUR NEXT MEETING IN FEBRUARY.
I THINK WE'LL GET BACK ON TRACK WITH THAT.
TAMMY SHOWED $84,633,000 IN CHANGE TO DATE, AND THAT'S WHAT WAS REFLECTED ON THE DASHBOARD.
THEN FOR THE NEXT BACK DASHBOARD WE'LL GET THAT RECONCILED BETWEEN HEIDI AND TAMMY AND THAT SHOULD FIX THAT.
THEN OF COURSE, WE HAD OUR CMR THAT WAS INCLUDED IN THE PACKET AS WELL AS THE CASH FLOW CHART.
ON OUR CASH FLOW CHART, IT LOOKS LIKE OUR TRENDING LINE IS COMING CLOSER TO OUR PROJECTED LINE, SO THAT FELT PRETTY GOOD.
THEN I SUSPECT BY NEXT MONTH WE'LL ALMOST BE MARRIED UP TO THE PROJECTION.
I'M PRETTY IMPRESSED WITH CORNERSTONES ABILITY TO PROJECT THAT.
I NEVER THOUGHT THAT LINE WOULD BE SO ACCURATE, BUT IT'S BEEN VERY CLOSE, SO THAT LOOKS GOOD.
>> I HAVE A QUESTION ON THE FURNITURE, IS THAT ALL COMING AT A KCDA? WHERE ARE WE BUYING OUR FURNITURE?
>> YEAH. WORK ON A KCDA CONTRACT.
>> OKAY, SO THAT $1.2 MILLION, IS THAT ALL THE FURNITURE OR ARE WE STILL PAYING FOR SOME OF IT.
>> THERE WAS A CHANGE ORDER OR RECENTLY, I THINK SOME SMALL, I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS STOOLS OR A SMALL FURNITURE ORDER.
BUT YEAH, THAT'S PRETTY MUCH IT.
>> IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET THE EXPENDITURE REPORT JUST FOR THIS CALENDAR YEAR? BECAUSE WE CAN ALWAYS GO BACK AND LOOK AT [OVERLAPPING] 2018 AND '19.
>> WE'RE STARTING 22 [BACKGROUND] OR YOU WANT TO START JUST FOR JANUARY?
>> WHATEVER'S EASIEST FOR YOU JUST TO OWN NEEDS AND FUTURE.
>> I JUST LIKE TO HAVE THE RUNNING TOTAL, BUT [OVERLAPPING].
>> IF YOU GUYS JUST WANT TO SEE THE LAST SIX MONTHS OR SOMETHING?
>> YEAH, JUST [BACKGROUND] IS WHAT EVERYBODY THINKS THEY WANT TO GET FOR? OR DO YOU LIKE ALL 18 PAGES?
>> NO LONGER, I'LL GO SHORTER, YOU CAN JUST FLIP BACK.
>> IF THAT'S AN EASY THING JUST [OVERLAPPING] TO RUN BY DATE.
>> IT IS. YEAH, I THINK IT'S NOT TOO HARD.
>> YEAH. TYPICALLY IMPORTANTLY.
HOPEFULLY WE'RE NOT CRITIQUING SOMETHING FOR [OVERLAPPING].
>> THAT GOT PAID OUT TWO YEARS AGO.
>> I THINK WE ALREADY DID THAT.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU NEED TO TALK ABOUT ON THE COST MANAGEMENT REPORT OR IS THERE ANYTHING THAT'S GOING TO OPEN THAT FOR DISCUSSION AS WELL?
>> I DON'T THINK THERE'S MUCH TO TOUCH ON TONIGHT.
NOT TO JUMP AHEAD OF MYSELF A LITTLE BIT, BUT WE'RE GETTING REALLY CLOSE TO GETTING FINALS DESIGNED FOR THE PACK ITEMS ON THE THEATER AND NOW WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ABATEMENT PROCESS.
SO FAR SO GOOD, THEY DID HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL FLOOR MASTIC.
IN FACT THE REPORT JUST CAME THIS AFTERNOON,
[00:30:02]
WHAT THE FIRST AREA OF ABATEMENT LOOKED LIKE.I THINK IT LOOKED LIKE THERE WAS A LITTLE BIT MORE OF FLOOR MASTIC THAN WE THOUGHT, BUT HOPEFULLY THAT WON'T TRANSLATE INTO VERY MANY DOLLARS.
AS WE GET THROUGH THAT ABATEMENT, WE CHECK OFF ONE MORE HIGH-RISK ITEM AND JUST GET CLOSE TO THAT POINT OF MAKING THE FINAL DECISIONS ON THE PACK.
>> ARE WE STILL CARRYING WRONG VALUES TO THAT FOR ADDED ABATEMENT? [OVERLAPPING]
>> YES, THAT'S A LINE ITEM UNTO ITSELF OUTSIDE OF NORMAL CONTINGENCY, JUST BECAUSE IT IS OF HIGH-RISK NATURE.
THERE WAS A FAIR AMOUNT ATTRIBUTED TO THE POTENTIAL OF GOING LONG ON WHAT THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE WAS.
THAT WAS I THINK 450, 470 THOUSAND SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
IT LOOKS LIKE WE BUMPED UP BY ROUGHLY 400,000 OR SOMETHING IN ADDITIONAL COMMITTED COSTS SINCE NOVEMBER AND OUR PROJECTED BALANCE BETWEEN THOSE THREE CATEGORIES WENT DOWN OVERALL ABOUT 75 GRAND.
WE ARE PUTTING OUT ALL THESE NUMBERS HERE.
THEN OUR RAM VALUE WENT DOWN ABOUT 250 GRAND, SO OUT OF THE ROUGHLY FOUR MILLION DOLLARS WE HAD IN THOSE LINE ITEMS, IS A LOT OF THAT WRONG VALUE? I KNOW A LOT OF IT IS BURIED UNDERGROUND.
>> ORIGINALLY WE CARRIED IT IN THREE DIFFERENT BUCKETS AND THE ORIGINAL AMOUNT WAS CLOSER TO 700 THOUSAND.
SOME OF IT WAS IN THE UNREWARDED BECAUSE WE DID ANTICIPATE HAVING ADDITIONAL EXCAVATION COSTS AND WHAT NOT FOR THE DETENTION SYSTEMS. THEN WE'RE CARRYING, DON'T QUOTE ME ON THE NUMBER, BUT LIKE 250 THOUSAND DOLLARS, SOMEWHERE IN THERE IN THE OWNER'S BUCKET AND A SIMILAR AMOUNT IN THE CONTRACTOR'S BUCKET.
DOES THAT THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION?
>> YEAH, WELL YOU'VE ANSWERED THE FIRST PART OF IT.
I GUESS MY BIGGER QUESTION IS, WHAT'S THE TIMELINE OR HOW COMFORTABLE ARE YOU WITH THESE NUMBERS? IT'S GETTING DOWN TO END, SO EVERYTHING'S GETTING TIGHTER.
HOW MUCH OF THIS WRONG VALUE STUFF ARE WE GOING TO BE ABLE TO CLOSE OUT, OR MOVE INTO NATURAL PENDING DETAIL OR OUT OF THE WRONG BUCKET IN THE NEXT, I DON'T KNOW?
>> I THINK WE'RE GOING TO BE REALLY CLOSE IN A MONTH.
WE'VE MADE A LOT OF INROADS IN GETTING ACTUAL PRICING AND APPROVALS ON A LOT OF THOSE ITEMS. WE'RE QUICKLY GETTING THROUGH THOSE ITEMS, SO I THINK WITHIN A MONTH WE SHOULD BE LOOKING PRETTY SOLID.
>> NOTHING HAS COME UP THAT'S SURPRISED YOU GUYS LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, TRADER WISE?
>> NOW THAT WAS THE BIG PUSH TO GET THE SCHOOL DONE AND THAT TYPICALLY MEANS THAT THE PAPERWORK STUFF COMES SECONDARY AND THAT THE CHANGES SEEM TO INCREASE.
HOPEFULLY ALL THAT GET DONE UP BECAUSE ALL IN AND YOU'RE AWARE OF ALL THAT STUFF, IF THERE'S ANY?
>> OKAY. THERE'S A LINE ITEM OR OLD MAIN ARCHER OF RELOCATION.
IS THAT GOING TO HAPPEN, WHERE IS IT GOING AND WHAT'S THE PLAN ON THAT?
[00:35:03]
>> WE'LL PROBABLY FIND OUT TOMORROW.
>> THERE ARE ENGINEERS AND ARCHITECTURES WORKING ON OPTIONS RIGHT NOW.
THE NUMBER WAS $60,000 KEN? WAS THAT A ROUGH NUMBER? THEY WERE WORKING ON TIGHTENING THAT UP A LITTLE BIT?
>> TAKE IT ALL UP A BIT? [OVERLAPPING]
>>I GUESS TAKE IT AND STORE IT SOMEWHERE?
>> NO. THE CONVERSATION RIGHT NOW IS TO, IF YOU PICTURE WHERE THE RAMP, THE STEPS ARE OUTSIDE THE CURRENT CTE BUILDING, THAT COULD [INAUDIBLE] TO MAKE IT GRASSY AREA AND A POTENTIAL FUTURE HOME FOR THE SOUTH VILLAGE, IF YOU WILL.
THE CTE VILLAGE BUILDINGS THAT ARE BACK THERE FOR FUTURE USE AND BASICALLY PUT THAT THERE AS THE ENTRY TO THAT AREA.
FOR NOW, FACING THE ARCHED ENTRY INTO PARK AREA AND THAT'S SOMETHING WE'VE BUILT, SO THAT'S THE CURRENT DESIGN CONCEPT.
THAT'S WHERE THE 60 GRAND CAME FROM.
SO THE ENGINEERS ARE OBVIOUSLY LOOKING AT PHYSICALLY CAN THEY MOVE THAT INTACT AND WHAT THE REAL COST WOULD BE.
>> BUT NO CONTRACTOR HAS ESTIMATED THAT, JUST ENGINEERS?
>> I THINK SO, RIGHT KEN? OR WHERE WAS THAT COST FROM?
>> YEAH BUT THAT'S NOT BASED ON CURRENT PRICING.
THAT'S JUST A CONTRACTOR'S ESTIMATE.
>> WE HAVE 60 GRAND TO SPEND OR 120 GRAND TO SPEND.
WHERE IS THAT BREAKING POINT WHERE YOU DECIDE THAT IT'S NOT WORTH IT?
>> I'M GOING TO TURN THAT RIGHT BACK ON YOU GUYS.
>> IS THAT SOMETHING THAT YOU THINK WE SHOULD BE DISCUSSING AS PART OF SPENDING THAT MONEY? [OVERLAPPING] THAT GOES TO THAT OR WE LOSE [INAUDIBLE]
>> SIXTY THOUSAND DEFINITELY WILL GO TO THE PATH THAT'S UNDER BINDER SO IT'S SENTIMENTAL VALUE FOR PEOPLE.
WE'VE GOT A LOT OF COMMENTS FROM THE COMMUNITY THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THAT SAVED AS A RENTAL.
>> I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY DONATIONS BUT WE'VE GOTTEN TO HOW WE'LL HAVE IT OFFERED TO OTHER PEOPLE WILLING TO PAY FOR IT.
>> WE WOULD LIKE TO TALK ABOUT IT.
>> WELL TOO EASY TO SPEND OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY
>> IN THE WORD SO TIGHT NOW, WE GOT BASICALLY THREE WEEKS OR LESS?
>> IF IT GETS DETERMINED THAT IT CAN BE REMOVED, REMOVING IT IS A THOUSAND BUCKS.
>> THE FIVE GRAND SHOULD [OVERLAPPING]
>> I GUESS THAT'S SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE STORED FOREVER, RIGHT?
>> IF PEOPLE REALLY WANT IT, THEN THEY SHOULD.
>> WE JUST DON'T HAVE AS MUCH STORAGE AS YOU THINK
>> DEFINITELY, THE 60,000 IS MUCH CHEAPER THAN THE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS IT WOULD NEED TO BE ABLE TO SAVE THE BUILDING.
WE SAVED A LOT BY GETTING RID OF OLD MAIN SO SPENDING 60 TO KEEP A PART OF IT I THINK IS IMPORTANT.
IF WE STARTED AN ARCH TO A YARD, IF IT'S NOT DESTINED TO BE ON A HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS, IT SHOULD BE BUILT SOMEWHERE ELSE THAT'S FOR THE COMMUNITY.
THIS ISN'T THE OLD MAIN SPIRE, [INAUDIBLE]
>> INSTEAD OF AN ARCHWAY, JUST A MONUMENT LIKE A GRAVESTONE.
>> I CAN'T WAIT TO [OVERLAPPING]
>> PUT STAIRS IN IT DOWN TO [OVERLAPPING]
>> GUYS [LAUGHTER] I'M SORRY IF YOU MADE A COMMENT IN IT AGO THAT IS UNDER BUDGET.
>> OVER BUDGET AND THERE'S NOT ENOUGH MONEY.
>> THAT'S MY THOUGHT. MAYBE YOU SAID IT'S UNDER BUDGET AND MY HEAD IS WELL BEEN LIKE, WELL, NEVER MIND [INAUDIBLE] 60 GRAND ON MOVING, WHATEVER WE WANT FOR [BACKGROUND]
>> WE CAN HAVE THAT DISCUSSION.
[00:40:01]
[BACKGROUND]>> [OVERLAPPING] I THINK WE ARE GOING TO HAVE THIS DISCUSSION NOW THOUGH, IT'S GOING DOWN IN THREE WEEKS.
WE WON'T BE HERE TO MAKE THAT OR [OVERLAPPING]
>> GET OUR OPINION ON THE DECISION.
>> CAN WE JUST TAKE IT DOWN? NOT MAKE THE DECISION ON SPENDING $60,000 ON IT, WELL, MAYBE THERE'S A BABY, THERE IS SOMEBODY THAT REALLY [BACKGROUND] [LAUGHTER]
>> FULL TRANSPARENCY POSSIBLY NINTH, THINKS THEY'RE GOING TO RAISE MONEY.
I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT BY MANY PEOPLE.
HAVE YOU SEEN ANY DONATIONS? IF THEY'RE JUST GOING TO BE ALL TALK AND NO SHOW, THEN THERE'S NO REASON THAT IT NEEDS TO GO UP.
I DON'T DISAGREE THAT IT CAN BE BROUGHT DOWN AND SAVED AND SET SOMEWHERE OUT OF THE WAY.
YOU CAN STACK IT UP ON FOUR PALETTES AND STICK IT IN THE CORNER AND FORGET ABOUT IT FOR 20 YEARS.
>> OKAY. I'M NOT CONTRACTUAL. WHAT IS THE COST TO ACTUALLY BRING THAT THING DOWN IN ONE PIECE?
>> IT'S NOT ONE PIECE. [BACKGROUND] FIRST OF ALL, LET'S UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS.
IT'S ABOUT 12 OR 15 PIECES OF STONE THAT ARE GROUNDED TOGETHER.
[BACKGROUND] INDIVIDUAL PIECES, THEY ARE NOT REBAR IN THE MAIN BUILDING [OVERLAPPING] THERE MIGHT BE PINES AND THE TOPS TO HOLD THE ARCH, BUT THAT'S MINIMALISTS.
IT CAN BE LIFTED OFF, SET ON A PALLET.
IT'S NOT THE FULL THICKNESS OF THE WALL.
IT'S ONLY ABOUT 12 OR 14 INCHES THICK.
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT 15-ISH OR MAYBE ONCE CAPS AND CORBELS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
IT MIGHT BE 20 PIECES TOTAL, BUT IT'S PIECES.
WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT ONE GIANT THING THAT YOU'RE JUST GOING TO LIFT UP, GO TAKE SOMEWHERE, PUT IT ON A TRAILER AND DRAG IT SOMEWHERE. BECAUSE THEN IT WOULD BREAK.
BUT I DON'T SEE WHY WE SHOULD BE PUTTING IT BECAUSE IT'S WAY MORE EFFORT.
I THINK THAT 60 GRAND IS A LOW NUMBER, FIRST OF ALL, TO PUT THAT THING UP AND HAVE IT BE STABLE AND FOR PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO WALK UNDER IT AND FOR IT TO HAVE A FOUNDATION WHERE IT'S NOT GOING TO TIP OVER.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO HOOK IT TO? THERE'S A WHOLE BUNCH OF VARIABLES THAT I DON'T THINK ARE BEING COMPLETELY ANALYZED QUITE YET.
I'M SURE THAT THE ARCHITECT AND THE ENGINEER ARE ANALYZING IT, BUT THEY'RE GOING TO COME UP WITH A PRETTY STABLE FOUNDATION UNDERNEATH.
>> WELL IF WE CAN SAVE ARCHITECTURAL STRESS ALL FOR THAT.
>> THAT'S JUST MY OPINION BECAUSE [OVERLAPPING]
>> THE ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER I'M SURE ARE SPENDING PLENTY OF TIME.
>> YEAH. SPENDING IT IS NOT A BIG ISSUE.
SPENDING THE MONEY AND FOR THE ESTIMATE IS TO RESET IT IN THE SAME [OVERLAPPING]
>> THAT FOR A WEEK BUT IT COMES DOWN AT BRICK.
>> ALL THE COST IS PUTTING IT BACK.
>> MAYBE JUST SAVING, IS GOOD ENOUGH.
>> THEN WHAT? I SAY [OVERLAPPING] [BACKGROUND]
>> WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO SET UP TO A SIDE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME ANYHOW.
EVEN IF YOU HAD A PLAN TO DO SOMETHING WITH THAT.
>> BECAUSE THERE'S GOING TO BE A PRETTY SCOOP AND SOMETHING IF IT GETS SPILLED.
>> WELL, THEY HAVE TO DO A WHOLE BUNCH OF WORK BEFORE THERE'S GOING TO BE A PART TO PUT IN FRONT SO THAT'S GOING TO BE A WHILE ANYWAY.
>> I THOUGHT PARK TAKES PRIORITY OVER THE GRAVESTONE [INAUDIBLE]
>> IT'S INTERESTING TO HEAR FROM YOUR GUYS' PERSPECTIVE BECAUSE WE'RE HEARING THE OTHER.
WE'RE HEARING NOISE ABOUT THE INTERNET [OVERLAPPING]
>> I FEEL THE SAME WAY AS YOU DO.
BUT I DIDN'T GROW UP AND GO TO SCHOOL HERE.
>> UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.
>> PUT IT UP AND HAVE ENOUGH, I JUST DON'T KNOW IF IT'S, [OVERLAPPING] I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S 60 GRAND COOL.
I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S 60 GRAND THAT DOESN'T GO TO THE POOL.
>> I KNOW. MY NAPKIN NUMBERS WERE EIGHT.
WHEN WE FIRST STARTED TALKING ABOUT THIS THREE WEEKS AGO, IT'S NOT 60.
JUST KNOWING THAT IT'S ALL PREVAILING WAGE, KNOWING THAT IT'S ALL GOING TO BE PART OF ANOTHER CONTRACT AND IT'S GOING TO BE A CHANGE ORDER, SO THE MARKUP IS DIFFERENT.
I MEAN, THERE'S JUST SO MANY VARIABLES THAT THIS ISN'T [OVERLAPPING]
>> GOING TO HURT YOU. WHAT ABOUT IF YOU SPENT THE ART MONEY ON THEM?
>> BECAUSE THEY PAY FOR ART, THEY'RE NOT PAYING FOR [BACKGROUND]
>> OKAY. BUT IN REALITY, IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET OVER THIS HURDLE BY HAVING IT TAKEN DOWN UNDER THE CONTRACT,
[00:45:04]
SETTING IT ON FIVE PALLETS OR SIX PALLETS, WHATEVER IT IS, AND PUTTING IT SOMEWHERE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE JOB FOR THE TIME BEING?>> WE CAN CERTAINLY EXPLORE THAT AS AN OPTION
>> THEN SEE HOW THE END RESULT IS ON THE PARK AND EVERYTHING ELSE AND THEN MAKE DECISIONS.
ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE CRYING WHEN THEY STARTUP IN THEIR WALLETS.
>> YEAH, I SAY PUT IT TO THEM. THEY OPEN THEIR WALLETS.
>> IT WILL ALLOW US SOME TIME.
I THINK THAT'S NOT A BAD OPTION.
>> DID YOU GET ENOUGH FEEDBACK FROM US?
>> GOT SOME FEEDBACK. [INAUDIBLE]
>> WHEN WE HAVE THE AFTER PIONEER DAYS AND JAMIE AND BRAD, SO PLAZA 72, WE WALKED THROUGH THAT AND A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE ASKING ABOUT THAT AND ABOUT WHAT WOULD WE DO WITH THAT.
[NOISE] THERE WERE A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT HAPPENED WITH THE BIRMINGHAM SCHOOL DISTRICT.
THEY TOOK THE OLD BIRCH WOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THE ORIGINAL ENTRANCE AND WHAT THEY DID WAS THEY TOOK THAT AND THEY PUT THAT INTO WHERE YOU WALK IN TO GO INTO THE NEW LIBRARY, INTO THE NEW BIRCH WOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
YOU CAN TAKE THIS STUFF BECAUSE ALL OF IT'S WHAT? ALL OF IT IT'S BASICALLY FASCIA, RIGHT?
>> RIGHT. BUT YOU CAN TAKE THAT AND PUT THAT INTO AN ENTRYWAY SOMEWHERE ELSE IF YOU WISH TO.
BUT I REALLY AGREE WITH WHAT JOE WAS SAYING.
PUT IT ON SOME PALETTES, TAKE IT OUT OF THERE, PICK THE WHOLE THING DOWN AND THEN IF SOMEBODY WANTS TO HAVE THAT INPUT, PUT THEIR MONEY WITH THEIR MOUTH.
>> THEY KNOW WHAT USUALLY HAPPENS.
WE'RE PROBABLY OWE FOR THOUSANDS SAYING THAT WE'RE GOING TO TAKE SOMETHING AND SAVE IT.
THAT'S GREAT NOW THAT IT'S GOING TO GET USED SOMEWHERE.
>> YOU ONLY HAD A NICKEL FOR EVERY [OVERLAPPING] FACEBOOK COMMENT ABOUT THE WAY YOU SHOULD DO.
YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE ALL THE THINGS.
>> YOU COULD HAVE DONE ALL THE THINGS.
>> I WOULD RATHER THINK THAT'S A GOOD IDEA.
PUT THE MONEY TOWARDS THE PAST BECAUSE YOU'VE GOT ONE GROUP HAVE THEIR COMMENT OR ANOTHER GROUP THAT HAS THEIR COMMENTS.
>> AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE BOND PROMISE WAS TO DO THIS WORK.
THE BOND PROMISE WAS NOT TO SAVE [BACKGROUND] RELICS OF OLD MAIN AS MUCH AS I WOULD. AGAIN, THINGS WORK.
>> I AGREE WITH THE CAVEAT THAT HOW WE GOT TO WHERE WE GOT THERE WAS DISCUSSIONS ABOUT DOING SOMETHING TO MEMORIALIZE THAT NOSTALGIA THAT PEOPLE HAVE.
>> WHICH I THINK WE ARE OR THE DISTRICT IS WITH [OVERLAPPING]
>> EXCEPT FOR BRIAN. [OVERLAPPING]
>> I WANT TO MAKE [OVERLAPPING] MAYBE SAVING BRICKS AND PUTTING THAT ON A PALLET.
>> YOU ARE ALLOWING IT TO BE MEANINGFUL.
>> HONESTLY, THE BEST WAY THAT THEY COULD MEMORIALIZE IT IS TO HAVE OLD SETTLERS FUND SOMETHING OR THE CITY FUND SOMETHING.
>> PUT IT RIGHT NEXT TO THE [OVERLAPPING] TOWER ON THE TOP, DOWN A PIONEER PARK [OVERLAPPING]
>> MOVE ON WITH LIFE. THAT WOULD BE IDEAL.
WE'RE NOT HERE TO DECIDE FOR THAT SO WE JUST GOT TO.
>> HOWEVER I WOULD SAY DON'T JUST YARN IT OUT LIKE PULL UP A DUMPSTER.
>> CAN TURN OFF THE BRAKE. DOING A DEMO.
I FORGOT TO DO IT [OVERLAPPING] [BACKGROUND]
>> YOUR GRADES RIGHT THERE. [INAUDIBLE] [BACKGROUND] [OVERLAPPING]
>> I'VE GOT A GREAT PLACE FOR THAT RIGHT NEXT TO ME.
>> I HAVE QUITE QUIET NEIGHBORS, I'M TELLING YOU THAT.
>> YOU ACTUALLY HAVE LIKE EIGHT OF THEM.
>> YEAH. [OVERLAPPING] ALL RIGHT.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ON THE TOP MANAGEMENT REPORT?
>> I'VE GOT [BACKGROUND] [NOISE]
>> NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HEADSTONES.
I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS ANY PROGRESS WITH THE TURF AND PRACTICE FIELDS.
[00:50:05]
>> SAME CONVERSATION WITH THAT.
>> NOT OFF-TOPIC BECAUSE IT'S STILL THE SCHOOL, BUT I DID HAVE ONE THAT I'VE FORGOTTEN ABOUT WAS HAVING YOUR GENERAL LOOK FOR THESE CAPSULES OR WHATEVER [INAUDIBLE] WILL GO IN FRONT OF OLD MAIN.
HAVING SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING OVER THERE.
I TOOK A METAL DETECTOR OUT THERE, AND I GOT ABOUT 85 DOTS OUT THERE, BUT THAT DOESN'T REALLY MEAN ANYTHING BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO LOOK.
>> THE WHAT? THERE'S A PATTERN CAPSULE.
>> YEAH, THERE'S A PATTERN FROM A LOT OF DIFFERENT YEARS.
I KNOW THAT WE HAVE ONE, LOUIS CLASS HAD ONE.
I WOULD IMAGINE THAT EVERY YEAR IN BETWEEN THAT ONE.
MY WIFE ACTUALLY SUGGESTS THAT DOCTOR BRETT SEE PROBABLY THE ONE THAT DIRECTED PEOPLE WORK, BUT HE MIGHT HAVE AN IDEA.
I DON'T WANT TO WASTE A BUNCH OF TIME, BUT I ALSO EXPECT THAT CONCEPT THAT PEOPLE PUT HAVE A, I GUESS AN EXPECTATION THAT WE BELIEVE IS MADE AN EFFORT TO LOOK FOR THEM.
>> WE'VE HAD PEOPLE LOOK FOR THEM AND WE PULLED THE DEMO CONTRACT, PLEASE.
>> THINK THEY'RE OUT AROUND THAT SIGN.
>> IT'S GOT SEVERAL PEOPLE I THINK TWO OR THREE OF THEM AT LEAST THAT I'VE SEEN MESSAGES FROM AND PEOPLE THAT [INAUDIBLE] THAT TRY BECAUSE I LOOK FOR WHERE THEY WERE, COMBINE THEM.
>> [INAUDIBLE] THIS CAUCUS YARD WAS MUCH BIGGER.
>> [INAUDIBLE] LET'S GET INTO YOUR REPORTS.
>> SOUNDS GOOD. A LOT OF THIS INFORMATION I KNOW ALL OF YOU GUYS ARE ALREADY AWARE OF, BUT I'LL JUST BURN THROUGH IT.
IN DECEMBER, WE GOT THROUGH ALL OF OUR FINAL INSPECTIONS, PLUMBING, ELECTRICAL, ELEVATOR, HEALTH DEPARTMENT, AND THE FINAL OCCUPANCY WITH THE CITY OF FERNDALE.
GREAT JOB BY CORNERSTONE, JUST GETTING THAT DONE AND GETTING US ACROSS THE FINISH LINE.
OF COURSE, ALL THE FURNITURE, FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT WAS DELIVERED, INSTALLED, AND THE MOVERS FROM THE DISTRICT RELOCATED THE EXISTING ITEMS IN THE NEW SCHOOL.
THEN THE STAFF, OF COURSE, WAS GETTING READY TO RECEIVE THE STUDENTS ON THE 4TH.
IN JANUARY SCHOOL, OF COURSE, IS BACK IN SESSION.
FINAL TOUCHES AND PROGRESS ON COMPLETING THE CONTRACTOR'S PUNCH LIST IS ONGOING.
FINAL ADJUSTMENTS TO THE BUILDING SYSTEMS AND BUILDING COMMISSIONING.
THAT PROCESS IS SCHEDULED TO RUN THROUGH AND BE COMPLETED IN FEBRUARY.
I'M WORKING CLOSELY WITH MARCUS AT CORNERSTONE, TRYING TO HERD THE CATS, IF YOU WILL, TO GET PEOPLE TO GET ACROSS THE FINISH LINE.
WE'RE APPLYING A LOT OF PRESSURE JUST TO GET THAT COMPLETELY DONE IN THE BOOKS AND LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT PHASE.
OUT THE FOOTBALL FIELD WORK IS CONTINUING.
THEY GOT ROLLING ON THE GRANDSTANDS CONCESSION AREA.
I'VE GOT A LOT OF FRAMING UP, EXTERIOR SHEETROCK IS GOING UP.
THAT'S GOING TO BE ONGOING OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS AND THEN THEY CONTINUE DOING A LOT OF THE CONCRETE WORK AROUND THE FOOTBALL FIELD.
THE 88 RAMPS, FOUNDATION FOR THE RAMP GOING UP TO THE GRANDSTANDS, AND THE BOUNDARY CURVES IN BETWEEN THE FIELD AND THE TRACK.
THAT'S ALL IN PREPARATION FOR A SUMMER INSTALLATION OF THE ACTUAL PLANE SURFACE, AND THAT FINAL ORDER.
[00:55:02]
JAMIE AND ERIC WORK THROUGH SOME OF THE FINAL STRIPING AND THINGS LIKE THAT.WE'RE ABLE TO PLACE THAT FINAL ORDER AND GET THEIR ASTROTURF COMING TO ARRIVE IN THE SUMMERTIME.
>> IS THERE A LOGO ENVELOPE, AND THE GOLD OUTLINE?
>> [INAUDIBLE] A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE, SO WE JUST WENT WITH THAT.
>> BUT IT'S IN THAT TYPE OF FORM OR WHATEVER.
>> NO WORRIES. THEN MOVING ON TO CTE VILLAGE, ARE FINISHING TOUCHES HAPPENING THERE AND THEIR SCHEDULING TO TURN THAT OVER TO THE SCHOOL NEXT WEEK AT SOME POINT.
RIGHT NOW, I'VE BEEN TOLD THE 30TH, BUT THAT'S AHEAD OF SCHEDULE FROM THE ORIGINAL PLAN.
AND THEN THE PLEXIGLASS PANELS HAVE ARRIVED FOR THE GREENHOUSE SO THAT CAN GET ROLLING AND WITHIN A MONTH OR SO, WOULD LOOK IN REALLY CLOSE TO BEING DONE ON THAT GREENHOUSE.
THAT'S QUITE THE ACCOMPLISHMENT, KNOWING THAT THIS IS THE THIRD LOCATION IT'S RESIDED IN.
IT ORIGINALLY CAME FROM THE BELLOWS FAIR SITE, MOVE TO THE SCHOOL, AND THEN NOW WE ARE LOCATED TO ITS THIRD HOME.
THAT'S PRETTY COOL IF YOU ASK ME.
THEN THE EXISTING HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE THERE WAS REMOVAL OF ITEMS FOR REUSE BY THE DISTRICT, REMOVAL OF ITEMS BY A LOCAL RECYCLING COMPANY.
NOW FULLY INTO REMOVAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AND DEMOLITION OF THE OLD STRUCTURE.
UNFORTUNATELY, I'M ON THE ROAD THIS WEEK AND I DIDN'T GET TO SEE THE MACHINES START TEARING IT DOWN.
THAT'S A BUMMER, BUT I GUESS I'LL SEE THE NEXT ROUND.
THEN, OF COURSE, WE HAVE SOME PICTURES TO GO ALONG WITH THE MONTHLY REPORT FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL, AND THEN JUMPING INTO THE CRITICAL BUILDING REPAIRS.
REALLY DOWN TO JUST TWO ITEMS. WE HAVE THE HOT WATER TANK REPLACEMENT IT'S AT THE DISTRICT WILL COMPLETE THIS COMING SUMMER.
AS I ALLUDED TO EARLIER, WE HAVE ALL THE HVAC CONTROLS, STANDARDIZATION PROJECTS ON THE BOOKS.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAS RECENTLY OCCURRED WAS APS HAD SUGGESTED A VALUE ENGINEERING PROPOSAL AT CASCADIA, AND WHAT THAT LOOKED LIKE IS LEAVING THE FIELD DEVICES IN PLACE THAT STILL HAVE QUITE A NUMBER OF YEARS OF SERVICEABLE LIFE LEFT ON THEM, WHICH SAVED US ABOUT $140,000, JUST 1/5, AND SO ON.
THAT'S ALL BEEN RECONCILED IN THE BUDGET FOR THOSE PROJECTS AS WELL.
I ADDED THE LITTLE SCHEDULE THAT I HAVE FOR THOSE PROJECTS.
THAT'S REFLECTED IN THE DASHBOARD FOR THE PROJECT AS WELL.
THOSE DATES ALL MATCH AT THIS POINT.
EVERYTHING ELSE ON THAT LIST ARE JUST THE COMPLETED PROJECTS.
ONE THING I WOULD JUMP INTO IF YOU RECALL, PREVIOUSLY BEFORE EXERCISING THAT ALTERNATE TO ADD VISTA MIDDLE-SCHOOL, WE'RE SITTING AT ABOUT 350,000 ROUGH NUMBERS LEFT IN THAT BUDGET.
WE DID EXERCISE IT, WHICH WAS $250,000 SOMEWHERE IN THAT RANGE.
WITH THE SAVINGS OF 114,000 THAT PUTS US AT ABOUT $240,000 LEFT IN THAT BUCKET.
THAT FELT PRETTY GOOD. THAT'S ALL I GOT.
>> PROBABLY A QUESTION FOR PAYMENTS WITH A PROJECTED BALANCE IN THAT CRITICAL MAINTENANCE BUCKET, IS THERE A PLAN TO PUT TOGETHER OPTIONS LISTS FOR WHAT'S NOW THE MOST CRITICAL TO TRY TO TACKLE?
[01:00:01]
>> [INAUDIBLE] WE HAVE LOTS OF THINGS YOU COULD DO.
>> I THINK THE LIST THAT WE ORIGINALLY LOOKED AT WAS LIKE QUADRUPLE, [OVERLAPPING] THE LISTS THAT ACTUALLY GOT PUT TOGETHER OR SO.
>> DID THE COST FOR THE HOT WATER HEATERS THAT YOU'D STILL HAVE YET TO BUY, ALREADY OUT OF THAT BUDGET, OR STILL YET TO COME OUT?
>> NO. THEY'RE ALL PROJECTED IN THAT BUDGET.
>> THEY'RE ALL PROJECTED. OKAY.
>> EVERYTHING THAT'S ON THE LIST IS PROJECTED.
LIKEWISE, WITH ALL THE PROJECTS THAT WE NOW HAVE ON THE BOOKS, WE ACTUALLY FARED PRETTY WELL.
ORIGINALLY, I CARRIED LIKE 15 PERCENT CONTINGENCY, WHICH IS GOOD BECAUSE WE LANDED RIGHT AT THAT, BUT NOW WITH VISTA, WE'RE COMPLETELY LOCKED IN, AND SHOULD SOMETHING GO WRONG THAT WE'RE UNAWARE OF, WE STILL DO HAVE THE ABILITY, AS IT WAS STRUCTURED IN THE CONTRACT TO PULL THE PLUG ON VISTA IF SOMETHING CATASTROPHIC HAPPENED, AND WE WOULD HAVE UNTIL APRIL 15TH TO MAKE THAT DECISION.
AT THIS POINT, I DON'T ANTICIPATE THAT HAPPENING, BUT VISTA IS COMPLETELY CORRECT TOWARDS ANY ESCALATION THAT HAS OCCURRED OR WILL OCCUR, IT'S ALL SET IN STONE AT THIS POINT.
LIKE I SAID, TO MAKE THOSE NUMBERS REALIZE, WE NEED TO GET UNDERWAY WITH THE WORK BY JUNE 1ST, WHICH IF I MAKE A DECISION BY APRIL 15TH AND LET THAT CONTRACTOR KNOW WE CAN WALK AWAY WITH NO STRINGS ATTACHED.
>> AS FAR AS IN THE MAIN BUILDING, HOW ARE YOU GUYS COMFORTABLE OR HOW ARE YOU DEALING WITH TURNOVER OF EACH INDIVIDUAL AREAS SLASH SYSTEM SINCE THEY'RE STILL WORKING IN A LOT OF PLACES? PUNCH LISTS CAN GET REALLY GRAY SOMETIMES, SOMETHING AND THEY SEE SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
WHAT'S THE MAIN PROCESS FOR THAT?
>> WELL, THAT'S WHERE KEVIN'S HEAVILY INVOLVED.
AS FAR AS TURNING THINGS OVER, FOR EXAMPLE THE HVAC SYSTEM, WE DON'T HAVE IT UNDER OUR CONTROL YET.
THERE'S STILL A LOT OF THAT TO HAPPEN AS WE FINISH THIS PROJECT.
>> WE'VE ACTUALLY TALKED ABOUT THAT AND ALL WE SEE WE CAN PROBABLY TOUCH ON IT MORE SPECIFICALLY, BUT THERE IS SOME A LITTLE BIT OF GRAY AREA IN THERE. [OVERLAPPING]
>> THE DOWN NUMBER THAT MEET THE HOUSE.
>> THE ONE LAST WORD I GOT FROM SAM IS THEY FELT LIKE IT WOULD BE TOO HARD TO PASS THINGS OUT AND START A TIME CLOCK AS WE'RE GOING THROUGH THE JOB.
THE LAST WORD I GOT FROM SAM IS THAT THEY WOULD START TO TIME CLOCK WHEN WE'RE DONE.
THAT WAS A GREAT THING TO HEAR FROM HIM.
THEN AS FAR AS WHAT? I DIDN'T KNOW IF TWO THOUGH THAT'S HIS WARRANTY.[OVERLAPPING]
>> WHICH IS GOOD, BUT IT MAY BE OPEN TO NEGOTIATE IN ANOTHER SINCE THE WAY THAT YOU GUYS COMPLETED AND GOT IN EARLY, HE MIGHT BE ABLE TO NEGOTIATE ANOTHER FOUR TO SIX MONTHS ON A MANUFACTURER WARRANTY FROM THOSE GUYS SINCE YOU ALREADY BOUGHT IT.
WE'VE DONE THAT WITH A LOT OF DIFFERENT PIECES OF EQUIPMENT, SO MIGHT BE SOMETHING FOR HIM TO LOOK INTO.
>> WE CERTAINLY CAN HAVE THOSE DISCUSSIONS.
THEN I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS WHAT YOU WERE ASKING, JOE, BUT WE'RE RUNNING REGULAR SWING SHIFTS NOW TO KEEP THE WORK MOVING AND GET THINGS COMPLETED, POSTED LIKE WAITING TO A SATURDAY.
ALMOST EVERY NIGHT WE HAVE FOLKS COMING IN AFTER THE STUDENTS ARE DONE FOR THE DAY.
THAT'S BEEN A REGULAR PART OF OUR STRATEGY TO GET THROUGH THAT PUNCH LIST.
WE'VE GOT THE GENERAL PUNCH LIST ITEMS BUT THEN PROBABLY MORE IMPORTANTLY IS THE BUILDING COMMISSIONING AND GETTING ACROSS THE FINISH LINE THERE.
I'M HOLDING EVERYBODY'S FEET TO THE FIRE TO GET THROUGH THAT.
WE'VE SEEN A LOT OF PROJECTS DAWDLE FOR SIX TO EIGHT MONTHS TRYING TO GET THAT DONE AND WE JUST SIMPLY CAN'T HAVE THAT OCCUR HERE.
THAT'S BEEN A PRIMARY FOCUS TO US TO REALLY WORK AS A TEAM.
IT'S A MARCUS KEN SHOW WHERE WE'RE LEANING ON PEOPLE AND LOTS OF PHONE CALLS AND EMAILS TO GET PEOPLE MOTIVATED TO GET THAT DONE BECAUSE IT IS A VERY BIG CHALLENGE.
>> I DON'T DOUBT THAT YOU ARE.
[01:05:02]
I JUST KNOW THAT, THAT CAN BECOME A REAL GRAY SITUATION IF IT'S NOT MANAGED REALLY WELL.BECAUSE YOU'RE RIGHT, YOU'RE ASKING A LOT OF THE CONTRACTOR AND YOU GET INTO A LITTLE BIT OF SOMETIMES A PUSH AND PULL.
>> WELL, INVARIABLY WHAT HAPPENS IS PEOPLE SAY THEY'RE READY TO DO THE FINAL COMMISSIONING AND THE FINAL TESTING AND THEN THE COMMISSIONING AGENT'S SHOWS UP AND THEY'RE 80 PERCENT OR 90 PERCENT AND THEY'RE NOT TRULY READY.
OUR MEAN COMMUNICATION WITH THE SUBS IS IF YOU NEED ANOTHER WEEK OR TWO TO ENSURE THAT YOU'RE 100 PERCENT READY FOR THAT FINAL COMMISSIONING TO OCCUR ASK FOR THAT WILL GIVE IT TO YOU.
RIGHT NOW THAT DATE IS FEBRUARY 13TH ON THE FINAL CHECKS WILL START.
THEY'LL BE A FINAL REPORT ISSUED, THE DEFICIENCIES ON THAT WILL NEED TO BE CORRECTED BEYOND THAT DATE.
BUT WE'VE AGREED WITH EVERYBODY AT THE TABLE THAT BY THE FEBRUARY 13TH, THEY WON'T BE 100 PERCENT READY TO TRULY DO COMMISSIONING WHICH WOULD ALLOW US TO GET THROUGH THAT LIST BY THE END OF FEBRUARY, WORST-CASE A WEEK OR TWO INTO MARCH.
THAT'S THE STRATEGY AND HOPEFULLY THAT WORKS.
INDUSTRY-WIDE, IT'S BEEN A REAL STRUGGLE THE LAST FEW YEARS.
IT NEVER USED TO TAKE THAT LONG BUT WE'VE HAD OTHER JOBS THAT WE'VE HEARD OF THAT THERE EIGHT MONTHS PASS THE STUDENTS MOVING IN AND THEY'RE STILL NOT DONE.
WE CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT TO REPLACE OR REPEAT THAT.
>> I GUESS WE CIRCLE BACK TO THE HIGH SCHOOL, BUT ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ON ANOTHER CRITICAL MAINTENANCE SECURITY STUFF? [NOISE] THERE AREN'T ANY.
IT WAS COMMENTS THROUGHOUT BUT ANY GENERAL COMMENTS IN THE GROUP?
WHAT'S GOING WRONG? [LAUGHTER]
>> LET ME THINK. I WILL APOLOGIZE A LITTLE BIT.
I'M ON THE ROAD, SO A LITTLE BIT DISJOINTED AT THIS POINT, BUT I'M IN KENNEWICK AND I SPENT A COUPLE OF DAYS UP IN BREWSTER AND BRIDGEPORT WHERE I HAD EVER BEEN BEFORE IN MY LIFE.
BUT THERE'S A VERY SMALL SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT NEEDED SOME ADVICE ON WHAT TO DO WITH THEIR HIGH-SCHOOL.
MYSELF AND A TEAM OF FOLKS WENT UP THERE TO WORK ON THAT WITH THEM.
ANYWAY, I'M A LITTLE BIT DISJOINTED.
YOU ASKED ME WHAT'S GONE WRONG, I WON'T TELL YOU SOMETHING'S GOING WRONG BUT I WILL TELL YOU GETTING THE STUDENTS IN ON-TIME WAS A LOT OF WORK AND A LOT OF HOURS AND I AM GLAD TO BE DONE WITH THAT.
>> MOVING ON TO OTHER SUBJECTS.
THAT WAS AN INTENSE MONTH LEADING UP TO THAT.
I AM GLAD TO BE THROUGH DECEMBER AND I'M GLAD AT JANUARY. I'LL PUT IT LIKE THAT.
[NOISE] WE HAD A FAREWELL HOLD MAIN, IS THERE A PLAN FOR ANY HELLO NEW SCHOOL?
>> YES. ACTUALLY, I WAS SAVING THAT FOR OUR MEETING OPPORTUNITIES, BUT THE DATES, IT'S TENTATIVE AT THIS POINT.
IT'S NOT 100 PERCENT OFFICIAL, BUT THE DATE WE'RE HOLDING FOR OPEN HOUSE FOR THE NEW ACADEMICALLY IS MARCH 16TH.
THIS WILL BE COVERED OR JUST CUT OFF THE GROUND WOULD BE SOME GOOD [INAUDIBLE] STUFF LIKE THAT.
THE BIG DEAL WILL BE IN THE FALL.
THERE WILL BE A CHASE TO COVER IN THE GROUND BUT WE WANTED EVERYTHING TO GET FINISHED [OVERLAPPING] BECAUSE WE'RE STILL WAITING UP [INAUDIBLE] AND THE ARCH PLACE.
>> THAT'S THE COMMITTEE'S JOB UNTIL THE ARCHE IS IN PLACE.
>> ACTUALLY, I HAVE ONE THING ON THAT TOPIC.
[01:10:01]
I THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL THAT WE HAVE THAT START A LITTLE LATER.4:00. I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT TIME DOES IT GO.
I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE'S A LOT OF SCHOOL DISTRICT EMPLOYEES ON THAT, BUT IN REALITY IS THE TAXPAYERS WORKING DURING THEN UNTIL FIVE O'CLOCK, SO WILL BE HELPFUL IF IT WILL BE LATER.
>> I DON'T WANT LATER. [FOREIGN]
>> I'VE GOT TIME SLOT THAT I HAVE CALLED THE SYRIA AGENT.
>> [INAUDIBLE] NO, THAT'S OVER.
>> I DON'T KNOW. [OVERLAPPING]
>>I KNOW. WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY.
>> FAREWELL THOUGH MAYBE WAS CALLED HIS STATUS PART-TIME SCHEDULE FOR THE OPENING VERSUS THAT INSTRUCTION AND THE BURIAL.
>> I'LL SAY SIX TO EIGHT [OVERLAPPING] ON THE 16TH.
>> I THINK IT WOULD BE A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY TO OUT A DECK ON THE [INAUDIBLE]
>> OKAY, THAT'LL BE OPEN TO EVERYBODY WORKING ON THAT AS [INAUDIBLE]
>> I ASSUMED THAT I WILL BE NOT INVITED.
[BACKGROUND] THE REST OF THE COMMUNITY IS INVITED.
[BACKGROUND] THAT'S ACCEPTABLE.
>> I'M JUST WAITING FOR HER FINAL NUMBER AND THEN CHECK SO YOU'LL GET ORDERS I THINK.
>> SOMETHING ELSE WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THE BOOSTER CLUB IS GOING TO HELP THAT GUY WITH FRONT MONEY ESSENTIALLY SO THEY CAN BUT WHOLE BUNCH OF GEARS, THE HUTS.
WE ARE THINKING ABOUT SIX MONTHS OR WHATEVER BUT MOSTLY [INAUDIBLE]
>> THE LINE OF BRANDING AS WELL.
>> WELL, IT IS A NEW COLORS. [OVERLAPPING]
>> THAT'S A GOOD IDEA THOUGH. WHAT WOULD YOU CALL IT?
THE ARCHCAPELO NEW [OVERLAPPING]
>> ARCHCAPELO NEW [OVERLAPPING] HI SHINE OR SOMETHING VERY SIMILAR HAVING THIS CONVERSATION AGAIN.
>> ELECTRODE OR [INAUDIBLE] [LAUGHTER]
>> THAT IS ACTUALLY A NEW RECORD.
WE'VE NEVER BEEN HERE AT SEVEN BEFORE.
>> WHAT? NO. NOT SINCE I'VE BEEN HERE.
WE EVEN HAVE A GUEST SO DON'T LOOK LIKE WERE SLACKING. [LAUGHTER]
>> WHAT WE'RE GOING TO SIT AROUND AND TALK ABOUT?
>> MEETING WILL RECONVENE. [OVERLAPPING]
