[1. CONVENE]
[00:00:08]
SO I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND CALL THIS SPECIAL MEETING OF THE FERNDALE SCHOOL BOARD TO ORDER.
AND WE WELCOME EVERYONE THAT'S HERE.
WELCOME BOARD MEMBERS AND SEC TEAM.
SO FIRST ITEM ON OUR AGENDA FOR THIS SPECIAL MEETING IS TO ADOPT THE AGENDA.
AND SO AT THIS POINT, I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO DO JUST THAT.
I WOULD LIKE TO REMOVE ITEM 9.8 FROM THE AGENDA FOR DISCUSSION.
ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE SPECIAL MEETING OR [INAUDIBLE] THAT'S OKAY.
EMBARRASSING. SO I HAD TO MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE AGENDA FOR THE SPECIAL MEETING.
OKAY. SO IT'S BEEN MOVED TO ADOPT THE AGENDA FOR THE SPECIAL MEETING AS PRESENTED.
AND WITH THAT, THEN WE WILL MOVE ON TO ITEM 3.01, WHICH IS AN EXECUTIVE SESSION.
AT THIS POINT, THE BOARD WILL CONVENE TO EXECUTIVE SESSION FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES TO DISCUSS THE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS FOR THE STUDENT SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER REPRESENTATIVE INTERVIEWS.
AND THAT PUTS US BACK OUT INTO SESSION AT APPROXIMATELY 5:16.
OKAY. AND WE ARE BACK OUT OF EXECUTIVE SESSION.
[2. ADOPTION OF AGENDA [GC-4.7]]
EVERYONE KNOWS ESSENTIALLY THE WAY WE'RE GOING TO CONDUCT THIS INTERVIEW IS WE'LL BE ASKING EACH BOARD MEMBER, WE'LL BE ASKING EACH OF THE CANDIDATES A QUESTION.WE'LL START WITH STEVE AND HE'LL ASK, STARTING WITH PERSON ON MY LEFT, YOUR RIGHT.
AND THEN TO RYAN, START WITH YOU, THEN GO TO AMY AND [INAUDIBLE] THEN WE WILL GO AND OTHER BOARD MEMBERS, NEXT BOARD MEMBER, SHE'LL BE JESSIE ASKING QUESTIONS.
GIVE THE OTHERS SOME TIME TO THINK.
WE APPRECIATE YOU GUYS COMPLYING.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING YOUR ANSWERS AND ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE WE START.
[INAUDIBLE], CAN YOU HEAR US OKAY? YEAH, I CAN HEAR YOU YOU GUYS GOOD.
HI, CANDIDATES, CONGRATULATIONS FOR BEING HERE.
I AM GOING TO START YOU OUT WITH YOUR FIRST QUESTION.
WOULD YOU PLEASE STATE YOUR NAME BEFORE YOU ANSWER THE FIRST QUESTION, IF YOU WOULD? AND, SO MY FIRST QUESTION IS TO YOU, RYAN, WOULD BE WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RUN FOR THE POSITION OF THE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE ON THE FERNDALE SCHOOL BOARD? DO I SAY MY NAME FIRST? YES PLEASE. MY NAME IS RYAN [INAUDIBLE] AND I CHOSE TO RUN FOR THE CANDIDACY TO GET RECOGNITION FOR EVERYONE IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT . THANK YOU, RYAN.
APPRECIATE THAT. [INAUDIBLE] I'M RUNNING BECAUSE I WANT LIKE RYAN I WANT RECOGNITION FOR EVERYBODY AND I REALLY WANT TO BE THERE WHEN GOOD, LIKE BIG DECISIONS ARE GETTING MADE.
THANK YOU, AMY. [INAUDIBLE] BECAUSE LIKE MY FRIENDS, THEY ARE PART OF THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS.
AND I FEEL LIKE THIS IS ONE WAY, A BIG WAY THAT I CAN DO THIS FOR MY PEERS.
[INAUDIBLE] THANK YOU. SO THE SECOND QUESTION IS RELATIVELY EASY.
[00:05:05]
WHAT EXCITES YOU AND MAKES YOU NERVOUS ABOUT THIS POSITION OR THIS EXPERIENCE? [INAUDIBLE] FOR EVERYBODY? WHAT EXCITES ME IS I ALWAYS MAKE IT TO BE THERE WHEN THIS IS VERY [INAUDIBLE] AND I GET TO HAVE INPUT AND I CAN HAVE SOME SORT OF VOICE IN WHAT THE BOARD DOES.[3. PUBLIC COMMENT [GC-3.3]]
WHOLE. SO IT'S JUST KIND OF LIKE, I WANT TO DO A GOOD JOB AND I DON'T WANT TO SCREW IT UP.YOU PROBABLY KNOW, WHAT I THINK ABOUT THIS POSITION IS PROBABLY THE ABILITY TO HAVE ACCESS TO A LOT OF INFORMATION IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, MY [INAUDIBLE] ARE GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON IN SCHOOL FOR THEIR STUDENTS, FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO, BECAUSE IT PUTS IT INTO PERSPECTIVE TO SEE THE SCHOOL BOARD MORE FEARFUL ABOUT THIS POSITION IS PROBABLY, PROBABLY IN THE INTERVIEW PROCESS, BUT ALSO JUST THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE THAT PUT ON ME OR THE PERCEIVED PRESSURE THAT WILL BE PUT ON ME IS A LOT.
YEAH, IT'S JUST THERE'S [INAUDIBLE] IT'S SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DREAD.
THE ONE THING THAT I HAVE DECIDED TO DO IS TO BE AS.
[INAUDIBLE] EVERYONE'S OPINION.
[INAUDIBLE] SOMETIMES IT'S DIFFICULT TO GET EVERYONE [INAUDIBLE] SO [INAUDIBLE] YOU WILL BE THE ONE TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION FIRST, AND THAT IS, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS AN IMPORTANT SKILL OR CHARACTER TRAIT THAT YOU WOULD BRING TO THIS POSITION? I THINK THAT ONE OF THE WAYS, [INAUDIBLE] AND I ALWAYS LIKE TO TRY TO DO MY BEST THAT I UNDERSTAND SOMETHING AND IT MAKES ME LIKE, YOU KNOW, ALMOST PATHETICALLY SAD WHEN SOMEONE STRUGGLES, WHICH IS WHY I TRY TO DO MY BEST WHEN IT COMES TO REPRESENTING, YOU KNOW, THE STUDENT BODY, TRYING TO UNDERSTAND PEOPLE'S STRUGGLES BECAUSE IT IS REALLY HARD TO GET OUT OF YOUR OWN PERSPECTIVE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE IN A VACUUM CHAMBER.
AND BY VACUUM CHAMBER, I JUST MEAN YOUR CLIQUE[INAUDIBLE] PEER GROUP.
WELL, YOU KNOW, [INAUDIBLE] IT'S JUST REALLY HARD TO HEAR FROM EVERYONE.
AND I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I REALLY VALUE IS WEIGHING EVERYONE'S PERSPECTIVE, BECAUSE I DON'T JUST WANT TO BE PRESENTED [INAUDIBLE] AND THEN SOMEONE WHO MAY NOT BE, YOU KNOW, AS A [INAUDIBLE] AND ONE OF THE WAYS THAT I COULD SOLVE THIS IS JUST YOU KNOW I DIDN'T LIKE IT SITTING AT THE [INAUDIBLE] AND BECAUSE [INAUDIBLE] I THINK THAT IS A GOOD QUALITY TO BE A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER . I THINK FOR ME, ONE OF MY BEST QUALITIES IS BEING ABLE TO HEAR EVERYONE'S OPINION.
AND CONSIDERING AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE PERSPECTIVE OF THERE REASONING AND IF THERE'S EVIDENCE CAN BE [INAUDIBLE] SO I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR EVERYONE'S [INAUDIBLE] I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND MY PEERS OPINIONS [INAUDIBLE]
[00:10:05]
AROUND OUR SCHOOL DISTRICTS.ALL RIGHT. ONE THING IS, I TRY TO LISTEN THE BEST I CAN TO UNDERSTAND, BECAUSE I DON'T WANT ANYBODY OUT THERE THINKING THEY'RE NOT WORTH GETTING LISTENED TO OR THEIR OPINIONS ARE NOT WORTH IT.
AND I JUST I'M JUST GOING TO SAY IT.
KIDS CAN BE MEAN, AND I JUST I DON'T WANT THOSE KIDS WHO ARE GETTING BULLIED TO BE SHUNNED OUT OF HEARING THEIR OPINION OR LIKE THAT LADY CAME TO PRESENT, LIKE, I BELIEVE IN MARCHES, MEANING ABOUT OUR KIDS BEING BULLIED FOR BEING NON-BINARY.
I DON'T WANT THAT IN OUR DISTRICT.
I WANT TO HEAR EVERYBODY'S OPINION OUT WHY THEY FEEL LIKE THEY NEED TO BULLY THIS PERSON, WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THE PERSON WHO'S BEING BULLIED? BECAUSE I JUST IT BREAKS MY HEART TO HEAR ALL THESE THINGS HAPPENING TO CHILDREN JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE EXPRESSING WHO THEY ARE NO MATTER WHAT.
BECAUSE I KNOW YOU'RE NOT GOING TO CHANGE THOSE BELIEFS EASILY.
AND I JUST WANT TO I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE POINT GETS ACROSS THAT YOU MAY NOT AGREE WITH SOMEBODY, BUT THE THING IS THAT GIVES YOU NO RIGHT TO HARM THEM VERBALLY, PHYSICALLY.
I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO COME TO CONCLUSIONS THAT WILL WORK FOR EVERYBODY.
SO MY NEXT QUESTION TO YOU IS, WHO HAS THE GREATEST INFLUENCE ON YOU? TELL US ABOUT THAT PERSON.
I THINK MY GREATEST INFLUENCE IS MY SEVENTH GRADE TEACHER [INAUDIBLE] TEACHER.
SHE LET ME EXPRESS MYSELF FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME.
I FELT VERY FAKE AND REALLY HAD TO PUT A MASK ON MY FACE TO APPEAR NORMAL, EVEN THOUGH I THINK NORMAL IS JUST A WAY OF OPPRESSING PEOPLE.
BUT I JUST MISS TALKING ABOUT THE WAY I EXPRESS MY FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS SHE'S INTO ARTS AND CLOTHINGS, AND I LIKE TO [INAUDIBLE] THE PERSON I LOOK UP TO, IT'S PROBABLY KELSEY AUTUMN.
SHE'S ONE OF THE COUNSELORS AT FERNDALE HIGH SCHOOL.
IT'S KIND OF JUST LIKE I SHOULDN'T [INAUDIBLE] PEOPLE BEING UPSET OF MY IDENTITY SHOULDN'T MAKE ME HAVE TO SHOVE MY IDENTITY IN THE CORNER BECAUSE EVERYBODY IS THEIR OWN UNIQUE PERSON AND JUST I BELIEVE THAT NOW, BEFORE I LEARN THE SKILLS SHE TAUGHT ME AND I WAS I STRUGGLED A LOT.
I STILL STRUGGLE OBVIOUSLY, BECAUSE PROBLEMS LIKE THIS DON'T GO AWAY THAT EASILY.
MAYBE WHEN I'M NOT FEELING AS GOOD AS I SHOULD, OR IT'S OKAY FOR ME TO OPENLY SAY THAT.
HEY, I JUST I'M SORRY THAT I CAN TELL THIS I SET BOUNDARIES FOR MYSELF, AND SHE'S REALLY HELPED ME BECOME BETTER AT SPEAKING TO PEOPLE EITHER IN A ROOM OR JUST ONE ON ONE.
I'M SORRY, CAN YOU REPEAT THE QUESTION? THE QUESTION IS, WHO HAS THE GREATEST INFLUENCE ON YOU? TELL US ABOUT THAT PERSON.
I PROBABLY SAY I MOSTLY SAY BOTH MY MOM AND I.
YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT JUST BECAUSE OF HER OR DAD.
AND I REMEMBER I HAD A FRIEND AND HE HAD DONE SOMETHING, YOU KNOW, TO TELL HIS PARENTS.
AND I WAS LIKE, WHY DON'T YOU JUST GO HELP ME UNDERSTAND? AND THEN HE JUST LIKE, HE GOT UPSET AND HE'S LIKE, NO, YOU SHOULD KNOW, MY PARENTS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND.
AND, YOU KNOW, I COULD SEE THAT HE WAS JUST JOKING AND MESSING AROUND.
AND THEN I WOULD GO ON AND TALK TO MY MOM ABOUT IT.
[00:15:07]
BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW HE'S GOING.YOU KNOW, YOU DON'T YOU DON'T NOT GOING TO.
IT'S LIKE HIS PARENTS ARE GOING TO BE LIKE DOING SOMETHING LIKE THAT CLOSING AND SAID, I THINK IT'S A GREAT WAY AND THIS THING THAT HE DID, IT WAS BAD. AND YOU JUST CAN'T TELL HIS PARENTS JUST BECAUSE THEY MIGHT DO SOMETHING REALLY, REALLY BAD AND YOU ARE NOT LIVING THIS LIFE.
SO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO UNDERSTAND.
WHICH IS WHY I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO GET EVERYONE'S PERSPECTIVE AND TO KIND OF GET OUT OF YOUR OWN LITTLE CHAMBER BECAUSE YOU REALLY NEVER KNOW WHEN SOMEONE IS GOING THROUGH AND IT SHAKES ME TO MY CORE.
THAT SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE STRUGGLING SO FAR THEY MASK THINGS SO WELL.
AND I THINK THAT'S REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT.
AND IT'S KIND OF HARD FOR ME BECAUSE SOMETIMES I DON'T LIKE IT.
SOMETIMES IT'S FAR TOO CHALLENGING, [INAUDIBLE] WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE SOME OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FACING US? SO SOME OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES, I'VE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO DISCUSS IT WITH THE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM, BUT IT JUST STUDENTS NOT FEELING INCLUDED, STUDENTS WHO AREN'T ABLE TO FIND THAT SAFE PLACE AT SCHOOL WHERE THEY CAN TRULY BE THEMSELVES.
OR APPARENTLY THEY TRANSFER OR THEY MOVE.
AND I JUST FEEL LIKE WE WE TRIED OUR BEST.
BUT THE THING IS, WE DON'T HAVE IN MY EXPERIENCE, I, WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF RESOURCES WHERE KIDS CAN GO LIKE, SAY, TAKE A TEN MINUTE BREAK OR JUST NEED TO TALK TO THE TEACHER.
YOU HAVE TEACHERS THAT ARE JUST SIT ON TEACHING THE CLASS.
AND WHEN A TEACHER SAYS, HEY, I WANT TO GET SAYS, HEY, CAN I TALK TO YOU? BECAUSE THEY HAVE JUST THAT TEACHER, THAT TEACHER THEN.
SO I THINK THE MOST THING YOU SHOULD GO ON IS SOME WAY TO GET OUR STUDENTS EMOTIONS OUT.
THAT WAY YOU CAN GET ADVICE IF YOU DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE GOING TO COUNSELORS OFFICE ONE ON ONE.
SO SOMETHING IN AN ANONYMOUS WAY WHERE YOU CAN JUST LET KIDS HAVE THEIR FEELINGS OUT AND GET THEIR GET ADVICE ON HOW THIS NOT HELP PER SE, BUT I GUESS HELP IN A WAY WHAT THEY'RE GOING THROUGH WITHOUT THE STRESS OF WHAT IF THEY TELL MY PARENTS, OH, WHAT MY PARENTS SOMEHOW FIND OUT, EVEN THOUGH COUNSELORS DON'T TELL.
I THINK THE MAJOR STRUGGLE FACED BY STUDENTS FACED BY NOW IS PROBABLY JUST THE STRESS FROM RETURNING BACK TO A NORMAL SCHOOL LIFE AND ESPECIALLY KNOWING INCOMING FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES.
THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR I FEEL LIKE JUST JUMPING BACK IN.
THERE'S A LOT OF VETERANS THERE AND THEY DON'T MAKE THE CLASS THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
AND I WOULD AGREE, I WOULD SAY THAT IT'S GOTTEN BETTER, BUT I FEEL LIKE SOMETIMES KIDS THINK WE NEED SOMETHING TO DISTRACT US FROM THE GENERAL STRESS IN SCHOOL AND LIKE DEALING WITH SAYING LIKE SOME KIDS, THEY DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO SAFE SPACE AND YOU KNOW, TALKING TO COUNSELORS IS IMPORTANT. AND I THINK THAT ALSO KIND OF RECOMMENDED ACTIVITIES LIKE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL THAT THERE WAS A CARNIVAL BEFORE I LEFT, I THINK IT WAS LAST WEEK. IT WAS A FORMAL GAME GOING ON.
WE HAD A TECH ASSEMBLY AND WE HAD A BOMBSHELL.
AND I THINK HAVING MORE WAYS TO DISCONNECT FROM THE STRESS OF SCHOOL IS ONE WAY.
[00:20:07]
SOME KIDS SAID IT GOT MORE CONNECTED BECAUSE I DON'T THINK THERE SHOULD BE ANY SHAME IN ADMITTING SOMETIMES SCHOOL WAS REALLY STRESSFUL.AND AS HARD AS WE TRY TO, YOU KNOW, DON'T MIND IT MORE INTERACTIVE AND MORE ENGAGING, IT'S, YOU KNOW, IT'S STILL LIKE A JOB AND THAT IT'S STRESS AFFECTS.
SO I THINK JUST, YOU KNOW, RUSHING BACK AND IT'S JUST A NORMAL, NORMAL SCHOOL LIFE AND, YOU KNOW, JUST SCHOOL IN GENERAL FOR SMARTPHONES AND THE LIKE.
BUT SCHOOLS LOCKDOWN IS ONE OF THE STRUGGLES THAT YOU CAN JUST BASICALLY KIND.
IS THE PRESSURE TO BE A PERSON'S VISION OF THEM . BECAUSE PRESSURE CAN REALLY [INAUDIBLE] WHEN ALL THEIR EMOTIONS SEEMED BOTTLED UP.
THEY HADN'T EXPRESSED THEM SELF, OR EVEN TELL THE OTHERS WHAT THEY'RE GOING THROUGH.
AND WE SHOULD ADDRESS HOW THE STUDENTS SHOULD FEEL AND KNOW ABOUT THESE.
SO I'VE BEEN TO SEE FRIENDS AND FAMILIES.
BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW HOW THEY FEEL INSIDE . AND MY QUESTION [INAUDIBLE] FIRST, WHAT WOULD BE SOME OF YOUR GOALS IF YOU WERE TO SERVE IN THIS POSITION? WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH? I THINK IN GENERAL, MY MAIN GOAL WOULD PROBABLY BE [INAUDIBLE] COMMUNICATION AND I MEAN, LIKE MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE DOING AS BEST AS WE CAN TO REACH OUT TO THE PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY WITH LIKE INFORMATION, THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS GETTING MORE INVOLVED, AND [INAUDIBLE] THE DISTRICT AND E MAILS AND FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM ARE [INAUDIBLE] AND SOMETIMES THERE ARE SOMETIMES THINGS THAT ARE LOST.
[4. MATTERS RESERVED FOR BOARD ACTION]
AND I FEEL LIKE WE CAN REACH OUT TO PEOPLE BETTER IF WE LIKE, NOT ONLY JUST COMMUNICATED USING EMAILS AND FACEBOOK, BUT EVEN UTILIZE DIFFERENT PLATFORMS TO, YOU KNOW, TO A GREATER EXTENT BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, WE ALWAYS SAY WE WANT PEOPLE TO BE MORE INVOLVED.SO SOMETIMES THINGS ARE JUST LOST AND LOST IN COMMUNICATION.
AND I DON'T THINK THAT'S ANYONE'S FAULT.
I DON'T REALLY THINK ANYONE'S FAULT.
I THINK THAT SOMETIMES THERE IS YOU KNOW, THEY'RE FIRST EXPECTED TO UNDERSTAND IT OR TO NOT UNDERSTAND, BUT SEE OR TO BE AWARE OF AND TO BE AWARE OF.
AND I THINK THAT I MEAN, WE ARE THE MAIN GOAL HAS TO BE COMMUNICATION.
AND THROUGH COMMUNICATION WE CAN GO ALONG WITH IT.
WE CAN IMPROVE PEOPLE FEELING HEARD THE WE CAN BE SO MUCH WE CAN WITH EDUCATION, WE CAN IMPROVE SO MUCH WE NEED TO IMPROVE THE WAY WE COMMUNICATE.
AND THAT WILL BE SOMETHING EXPERIENCING USING A DIFFERENT PLATFORM OR SOMETHING IS ALWAYS CHANGING.
AND FOR US I THINK THAT'S A LARGE BARRIER THAT NOT ONLY WE MAY HAVE AND WE MAY HAVE HERE, BUT LIKE THERE'S LANGUAGE BARRIERS AND THERE ARE COMMUNICATION BARRIERS.
[00:25:03]
SOMETHING LIKE THAT. YOU KNOW, I THINK IT ALL COMPILES THIS BIG THING.IT DOESN'T WANT TO MAKE PEOPLE ENGAGE OR PEOPLE CAN'T.
SO I THINK THAT'S PROBABLY TO GO FOR THAT KIND OF.
SURE. RYAN, WHAT WOULD BE SOME OF YOUR GOALS IF YOU WERE TO SERVE IN THIS POSITION? WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH? I THINK ONE GOAL I HAVE.
IT'S TO HAVE THAT COMMUNICATION LIKE BECAUSE COMMUNICATION COULD BE THE KEY ON SO MANY STUDENTS STRUGGLES AND TO LISTEN TO THEM VERY CAREFULLY AND UNDERSTAND THEIR PERSPECTIVE. ONE THING I WANT TO ACHIEVE IS TO HAVE [INAUDIBLE] STUDENTS FEEL CONNECTED TO A GROUP, AND MAYBE THOSE GROUPS CAN.
A VERY HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT FOR EVERYONE.
I'M SORRY I REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO ASK THIS BUT CAN YOU REPEAT THE QUESTION? SURE. SO AMY, WHAT WOULD BE SOME OF YOUR GOALS IF YOU WERE TO SERVE IN THIS POSITION? WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH? SOME OF MY GOALS WOULD NOT JUST FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL, BUT FOR EVERY SCHOOL TO BE ABLE TO HAVE AN ANONYMOUS RESOURCE WHERE KIDS CAN GO AND OBVIOUSLY GET ADVICE FROM COUNSELORS ON HOW TO DEAL WITH THE STRUGGLES THEY CAN BE GOING THROUGH.
BECAUSE I KNOW THE THING FROM WHEN PEOPLE ARE FEARFUL OF LIKE LGBTQ AND A MINORITY, IT'S BECAUSE OF IGNORANCE IS BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T EDUCATED ENOUGH AND THEY ONLY HEARD THE SIDE OF THE STORY WE'VE BEEN TELLING FOR YEARS ON THAT.
SO I REALLY WANT TO PUSH AND ACHIEVE GETTING MORE EDUCATION TO WHERE IT IS.
LIKE ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE BAD.
THEY'RE NOT BAD AT ALL. IT'S JUST THESE PEOPLE, LIKE EVEN ADULTS, HAVE BEEN OBVIOUSLY RAISED UNDER CERTAIN INFLUENCES FROM THEIR PARENTS AND THEIR PARENTS HAVE GOT AN INFLUENCE FROM THEIR PARENTS.
IT'D BE REALLY GREAT TO GET AWAY THAT FEAR AND THE NAME CALLING, THE SLURS THAT PEOPLE MAY CALL THEM ON A DAILY BASIS, JUST BECAUSE KIDS ARE UNKNOWN TO THE STORIES OF OTHER PEOPLE.
OKAY. WELL, THANK YOU, ALL THREE OF YOU.
WE'RE GOING TO GO AHEAD AND WRAP THINGS UP.
AND AS I DO THAT, I HAVE ONE LAST QUESTION AND START BACK WITH RYAN, AND THAT'S ARE THERE.
IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF THAT YOU HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO OR ANY QUESTIONS FOR US THAT YOU'D LIKE US TO ANSWER AT THIS TIME? I THINK MY FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IS GARDENING . GARDENING IS VERY CALMING.
MY FATHER ALWAYS HELPED ME GROW MY ROSES AND I WOULD HELP HIM WITH HIS BONSAIS.
WRITING IS ANOTHER WAY TO MAKE ME FEEL LIKE I'M LISTENED TOO, BECAUSE [INAUDIBLE] PEOPLE COULD READ MY STORIES AND ALL THE THINGS [INAUDIBLE] JUST BE ANYTHING.
ANYTHING. THE ONE THING IS PROBABLY THAT I LOVE READING.
THE THING THAT I LIKE IS I DON'T KNOW WELL I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PREFERENCE THIS, BUT I DEFINITELY MAYBE POSTED A COUPLE OF [INAUDIBLE] FOR SOME NEIGHBORS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
AND THAT'S ONE OF MY CONCERNS.
[00:30:07]
THIS WOULD INTERACT WITH THAT.AND THAT'S KIND OF WHAT I WAS KIND OF TALKING ABOUT.
I WAS THINKING ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHAT WAS THE DISTRIBUTION OF INFORMATION BECAUSE IT'S IT'S NOT ONLY IS IT IMPORTANT, BUT IT'S KIND OF INTERESTING TO [INAUDIBLE] REACT. AND I KIND OF GOT[INAUDIBLE] OF POSTING, YOU KNOW, WINTER WEATHER AND STORM WARNINGS.
SO YEAH, I JUST THAT'S MY PASSIONS AND I HOPEFULLY YOU GUYS DIDN'T BOTHER TO BE IMPACTED BY IT, SO.
YEAH, MAYBE. WELL, THANK YOU TO ALL THREE OF YOU BOTH FOR BEING HERE, FOR THE INTERVIEW AND FOR APPLYING . AT THIS TIME, THE BOARD WILL AGAIN RECESS INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION OR GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION TO CONSIDER THE APPLICATIONS INTERVIEW QUESTIONS.
WE WILL BE BACK IN APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES, WHICH IS 6:00.
AND AT THAT TIME, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION.
OKAY AND WE ARE BACK FOR THOSE WHO HAVE JOINED US WE ARE RUNNING JUST A LITTLE BEHIND.
AND SO WE'VE JUST COME OUT OF THE EXECUTIVE SESSION WHERE WE DISCUSS THOSE CANDIDATES.
AND SO I'M GOING TO OPEN UP THE FLOOR TO DISCUSSION REGARDING THE APPLICANTS AND THEN, [INAUDIBLE] IN A MOTION TO MAKE OUR DECISION.
SO ANY DISCUSSION? SO I WILL GO AHEAD AND START OUT THEN.
I JUST AGAIN, ONE THING THREE STUDENTS APPLIED.
OUR DISCUSSION, OUR DELIBERATION WAS NOT EASY.
IF WE HAD A REVIEW, YOU PROBABLY HAVE THREE STUDENTS.
SO WHAT I SAID IS BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THE [INAUDIBLE] THANK YOU FOR YOUR THOUGHTFUL ANSWERS AND FOR TAKING THE TIME TO COME AND JOIN US.
RUMOR HAS IT THAT WHEN [INAUDIBLE] STARTS OUT, THINGS ARE GOING TO HAVE A SOME FORM OF STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL FORMED AND HE WOULD ENCOURAGE ALL THREE AND PARTICULARLY THAT THOSE PEOPLE THAT AREN'T SELECTED AS A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER JOIN THAT GROUP BECAUSE THAT WILL BE THE PLACE FOR THE VOICE TO BE HEARD.
I WOULD SAY FROM THEIR REACTION TO THAT, THEY PROBABLY KNEW ABOUT IT BEFORE THE SCHOOL BOARD.
SO ANY OTHER COMMENTS FROM THE REST OF THE BOARD? YES, IF WE COULD, WE'D PICK ALL THREE.
I'D ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT JUST BY PUTTING YOUR NAME FORWARD AND BEING HERE AND TELLING US WHAT YOUR GOALS WOULD BE, WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT THAN SOMEBODY ELSE, WHAT YOU COULD OFFER TO THE SCHOOL BOARD.
YOU ALREADY OFFERED US A WHOLE LOT.
I TOOK A NOTE ON EVERY SINGLE LITTLE THING YOU GUYS ALL SAID, AND THERE ARE A LOT OF IDEAS IN THERE THAT I THINK WE SHOULD GO FORWARD WITH, WHETHER YOU'RE THE CHOSEN REPRESENTATIVE OR NOT.
ANYONE ELSE. I THINK [INAUDIBLE] THIS POSITIONS, WHOEVER IS TAKING THIS POSITION IS REALLY AN AMAZING POSITION.
[INAUDIBLE] ANYONE ELSE. THIS TIME, THE CHAIR WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION.
[00:35:04]
I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION TO APPOINT [INAUDIBLE] LEADBETTER TO THE STUDENT SCHOOL BOARD REPRESENTATIVE.SO IT HAS BEEN MOVED [INAUDIBLE] APPOINT [INAUDIBLE] AS OUR NEW STUDENT SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER FOR THE TWO YEAR TERM. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY SAYING AYE.
SO AT THIS POINT, THAT BRINGS OUR SPECIAL SESSION TO A CLOSE.
AND WE WILL TAKE A SHORT FIVE MINUTE RECESS AND THEN WE WILL COME IN SESSION FOR OUR
REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING.
