WHAT MAKES ME NERVOUS IS JUST PROBABLY AGAIN, WITH THAT PRESSURE YOU'RE REPRESENTING FOR ON HIGH SCHOOL AS A

WHOLE. SO IT'S JUST KIND OF LIKE, I WANT TO DO A GOOD JOB AND I DON'T WANT TO SCREW IT UP.

YOU PROBABLY KNOW, WHAT I THINK ABOUT THIS POSITION IS PROBABLY THE ABILITY TO HAVE ACCESS TO A LOT OF INFORMATION IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, MY [INAUDIBLE] ARE GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON IN SCHOOL FOR THEIR STUDENTS, FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO, BECAUSE IT PUTS IT INTO PERSPECTIVE TO SEE THE SCHOOL BOARD MORE FEARFUL ABOUT THIS POSITION IS PROBABLY, PROBABLY IN THE INTERVIEW PROCESS, BUT ALSO JUST THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE THAT PUT ON ME OR THE PERCEIVED PRESSURE THAT WILL BE PUT ON ME IS A LOT.

YEAH, IT'S JUST THERE'S [INAUDIBLE] IT'S SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DREAD.

BUT I THINK I'M, YOU KNOW.

THE ONE THING THAT I HAVE DECIDED TO DO IS TO BE AS.

[INAUDIBLE] EVERYONE'S OPINION.

[INAUDIBLE] SOMETIMES IT'S DIFFICULT TO GET EVERYONE [INAUDIBLE] SO [INAUDIBLE] YOU WILL BE THE ONE TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION FIRST, AND THAT IS, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS AN IMPORTANT SKILL OR CHARACTER TRAIT THAT YOU WOULD BRING TO THIS POSITION? I THINK THAT ONE OF THE WAYS, [INAUDIBLE] AND I ALWAYS LIKE TO TRY TO DO MY BEST THAT I UNDERSTAND SOMETHING AND IT MAKES ME LIKE, YOU KNOW, ALMOST PATHETICALLY SAD WHEN SOMEONE STRUGGLES, WHICH IS WHY I TRY TO DO MY BEST WHEN IT COMES TO REPRESENTING, YOU KNOW, THE STUDENT BODY, TRYING TO UNDERSTAND PEOPLE'S STRUGGLES BECAUSE IT IS REALLY HARD TO GET OUT OF YOUR OWN PERSPECTIVE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE IN A VACUUM CHAMBER.

AND BY VACUUM CHAMBER, I JUST MEAN YOUR CLIQUE[INAUDIBLE] PEER GROUP.

WELL, YOU KNOW, [INAUDIBLE] IT'S JUST REALLY HARD TO HEAR FROM EVERYONE.

AND I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I REALLY VALUE IS WEIGHING EVERYONE'S PERSPECTIVE, BECAUSE I DON'T JUST WANT TO BE PRESENTED [INAUDIBLE] AND THEN SOMEONE WHO MAY NOT BE, YOU KNOW, AS A [INAUDIBLE] AND ONE OF THE WAYS THAT I COULD SOLVE THIS IS JUST YOU KNOW I DIDN'T LIKE IT SITTING AT THE [INAUDIBLE] AND BECAUSE [INAUDIBLE] I THINK THAT IS A GOOD QUALITY TO BE A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER . I THINK FOR ME, ONE OF MY BEST QUALITIES IS BEING ABLE TO HEAR EVERYONE'S OPINION.

AND CONSIDERING AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE PERSPECTIVE OF THERE REASONING AND IF THERE'S EVIDENCE CAN BE [INAUDIBLE] SO I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR EVERYONE'S [INAUDIBLE] I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND MY PEERS OPINIONS [INAUDIBLE]

AROUND OUR SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

ALL RIGHT. ONE THING IS, I TRY TO LISTEN THE BEST I CAN TO UNDERSTAND, BECAUSE I DON'T WANT ANYBODY OUT THERE THINKING THEY'RE NOT WORTH GETTING LISTENED TO OR THEIR OPINIONS ARE NOT WORTH IT.

AND I JUST I'M JUST GOING TO SAY IT.

KIDS CAN BE MEAN, AND I JUST I DON'T WANT THOSE KIDS WHO ARE GETTING BULLIED TO BE SHUNNED OUT OF HEARING THEIR OPINION OR LIKE THAT LADY CAME TO PRESENT, LIKE, I BELIEVE IN MARCHES, MEANING ABOUT OUR KIDS BEING BULLIED FOR BEING NON-BINARY.

I DON'T WANT THAT IN OUR DISTRICT.

I WANT TO HEAR EVERYBODY'S OPINION OUT WHY THEY FEEL LIKE THEY NEED TO BULLY THIS PERSON, WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THE PERSON WHO'S BEING BULLIED? BECAUSE I JUST IT BREAKS MY HEART TO HEAR ALL THESE THINGS HAPPENING TO CHILDREN JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE EXPRESSING WHO THEY ARE NO MATTER WHAT.

AND I JUST WANT TO UNDERSTAND ALL SIDES OF THE POINT OF ALL THE SIDES OF WHAT'S GOING ON IN AN ISSUE AND JUST LEARN HOW TO RESOLVE IT IN A WAY THAT'S RESPECTFUL TO EVERYONE.

BECAUSE I KNOW YOU'RE NOT GOING TO CHANGE THOSE BELIEFS EASILY.

AND I JUST WANT TO I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE POINT GETS ACROSS THAT YOU MAY NOT AGREE WITH SOMEBODY, BUT THE THING IS THAT GIVES YOU NO RIGHT TO HARM THEM VERBALLY, PHYSICALLY.

I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO COME TO CONCLUSIONS THAT WILL WORK FOR EVERYBODY.

SO MY NEXT QUESTION TO YOU IS, WHO HAS THE GREATEST INFLUENCE ON YOU? TELL US ABOUT THAT PERSON.

I THINK MY GREATEST INFLUENCE IS MY SEVENTH GRADE TEACHER [INAUDIBLE] TEACHER.

SHE LET ME EXPRESS MYSELF FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME.

I FELT VERY FAKE AND REALLY HAD TO PUT A MASK ON MY FACE TO APPEAR NORMAL, EVEN THOUGH I THINK NORMAL IS JUST A WAY OF OPPRESSING PEOPLE.

BUT I JUST MISS TALKING ABOUT THE WAY I EXPRESS MY FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS SHE'S INTO ARTS AND CLOTHINGS, AND I LIKE TO [INAUDIBLE] THE PERSON I LOOK UP TO, IT'S PROBABLY KELSEY AUTUMN.

SHE'S ONE OF THE COUNSELORS AT FERNDALE HIGH SCHOOL.

AND SHE'S REALLY JUST TAUGHT ME WITH YOUR SEVENTH GRADE TEACHER THAT I AM FREE TO EXPRESS MYSELF NO MATTER WHAT, EVEN IF IT MAKES OTHER PEOPLE UPSET.

IT'S KIND OF JUST LIKE I SHOULDN'T [INAUDIBLE] PEOPLE BEING UPSET OF MY IDENTITY SHOULDN'T MAKE ME HAVE TO SHOVE MY IDENTITY IN THE CORNER BECAUSE EVERYBODY IS THEIR OWN UNIQUE PERSON AND JUST I BELIEVE THAT NOW, BEFORE I LEARN THE SKILLS SHE TAUGHT ME AND I WAS I STRUGGLED A LOT.

I STILL STRUGGLE OBVIOUSLY, BECAUSE PROBLEMS LIKE THIS DON'T GO AWAY THAT EASILY.

BUT I'M JUST REALLY HAPPY THAT I MET HER WHEN I DID AND SHE COULD HELP ME THROUGH, LIKE, JUST HOW TO INTERACT WITH PEOPLE.

MAYBE WHEN I'M NOT FEELING AS GOOD AS I SHOULD, OR IT'S OKAY FOR ME TO OPENLY SAY THAT.

HEY, I JUST I'M SORRY THAT I CAN TELL THIS I SET BOUNDARIES FOR MYSELF, AND SHE'S REALLY HELPED ME BECOME BETTER AT SPEAKING TO PEOPLE EITHER IN A ROOM OR JUST ONE ON ONE.

AND I WAS LIKE, WHY DON'T YOU JUST GO HELP ME UNDERSTAND? AND THEN HE JUST LIKE, HE GOT UPSET AND HE'S LIKE, NO, YOU SHOULD KNOW, MY PARENTS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND.

AND, YOU KNOW, I COULD SEE THAT HE WAS JUST JOKING AND MESSING AROUND.

AND THEN I WOULD GO ON AND TALK TO MY MOM ABOUT IT.

AND SHE MADE A REALLY GOOD POINT THAT YOU SHOULDN'T REALLY BE JUMPING IN AND SAYING HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND EXPERIENCE THE ACT

IT'S LIKE HIS PARENTS ARE GOING TO BE LIKE DOING SOMETHING LIKE THAT CLOSING AND SAID, I THINK IT'S A GREAT WAY AND THIS THING THAT HE DID, IT WAS BAD. AND YOU JUST CAN'T TELL HIS PARENTS JUST BECAUSE THEY MIGHT DO SOMETHING REALLY, REALLY BAD AND YOU ARE NOT LIVING THIS LIFE.

SO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO UNDERSTAND.

AND IF I HAD YOU TO TALK TO YOUR MOM, BUT I WOULD THINK IT'S JUST SAD THAT YOU CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND SOMEONE'S POINT OF VIEW UNLESS YOU'RE THAT.

WHICH IS WHY I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO GET EVERYONE'S PERSPECTIVE AND TO KIND OF GET OUT OF YOUR OWN LITTLE CHAMBER BECAUSE YOU REALLY NEVER KNOW WHEN SOMEONE IS GOING THROUGH AND IT SHAKES ME TO MY CORE.

THAT SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE STRUGGLING SO FAR THEY MASK THINGS SO WELL.

AND THAT'S WHY MY MOM IS LIKE EITHER ONE OF MY BIGGEST INFLUENCES BECAUSE SHE REALLY OPENED MY MIND TO A DIFFERENT WAY OF THINKING.

AND I THINK THAT'S REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT.

AND IT'S KIND OF HARD FOR ME BECAUSE SOMETIMES I DON'T LIKE IT.

SOMETIMES IT'S FAR TOO CHALLENGING, [INAUDIBLE] WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE SOME OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FACING US? SO SOME OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES, I'VE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO DISCUSS IT WITH THE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM, BUT IT JUST STUDENTS NOT FEELING INCLUDED, STUDENTS WHO AREN'T ABLE TO FIND THAT SAFE PLACE AT SCHOOL WHERE THEY CAN TRULY BE THEMSELVES.

AND IT JUST ENDS UP BUILDING UP ON THEM DAY BY DAY UNTIL EVENTUALLY YOU DON'T SEE THEM IN CLASS ANYMORE.

OR APPARENTLY THEY TRANSFER OR THEY MOVE.

AND I JUST FEEL LIKE WE WE TRIED OUR BEST.

BUT THE THING IS, WE DON'T HAVE IN MY EXPERIENCE, I, WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF RESOURCES WHERE KIDS CAN GO LIKE, SAY, TAKE A TEN MINUTE BREAK OR JUST NEED TO TALK TO THE TEACHER.

AND I KNOW I'VE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE TEACHERS WHO ARE OPEN MINDED TO TALK TO ME, BUT I KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF KIDS HERE.

YOU HAVE TEACHERS THAT ARE JUST SIT ON TEACHING THE CLASS.

AND WHEN A TEACHER SAYS, HEY, I WANT TO GET SAYS, HEY, CAN I TALK TO YOU? BECAUSE THEY HAVE JUST THAT TEACHER, THAT TEACHER THEN.

AND THEY KIND OF IT ADDS ON TO THAT GUILT OF NOT THAT GUILT, THAT STRESS, THAT ANGER, THAT SADNESS, WHATEVER IS BUILDING UP INSIDE OF THEM.

SO I THINK THE MOST THING YOU SHOULD GO ON IS SOME WAY TO GET OUR STUDENTS EMOTIONS OUT.

I KNOW PERSONALLY FOR ME, IT'S BEEN KIND OF HELPFUL TO HAVE LIKE A LITTLE COMMUNITY JOURNAL DRAWING THING WHERE YOU CAN DRAW OUT OR WRITE ABOUT HOW YOU'RE FEELING.

YOU CAN BE ANONYMOUS OR JUST SOMETHING YOU CAN ANONYMOUSLY SENT TO YOUR COUNSELORS SAYING, HEY, THIS IS THIS.

THAT WAY YOU CAN GET ADVICE IF YOU DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE GOING TO COUNSELORS OFFICE ONE ON ONE.

BECAUSE I KNOW SOMETIMES IT IS A STRUGGLE TO TALK TO SOMEONE OR REACH OUT TO GET SOLUTIONS FOR WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH.

SO SOMETHING IN AN ANONYMOUS WAY WHERE YOU CAN JUST LET KIDS HAVE THEIR FEELINGS OUT AND GET THEIR GET ADVICE ON HOW THIS NOT HELP PER SE, BUT I GUESS HELP IN A WAY WHAT THEY'RE GOING THROUGH WITHOUT THE STRESS OF WHAT IF THEY TELL MY PARENTS, OH, WHAT MY PARENTS SOMEHOW FIND OUT, EVEN THOUGH COUNSELORS DON'T TELL.

I THINK THE MAJOR STRUGGLE FACED BY STUDENTS FACED BY NOW IS PROBABLY JUST THE STRESS FROM RETURNING BACK TO A NORMAL SCHOOL LIFE AND ESPECIALLY KNOWING INCOMING FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES.

THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR I FEEL LIKE JUST JUMPING BACK IN.

THERE'S A LOT OF VETERANS THERE AND THEY DON'T MAKE THE CLASS THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

AND I WOULD AGREE, I WOULD SAY THAT IT'S GOTTEN BETTER, BUT I FEEL LIKE SOMETIMES KIDS THINK WE NEED SOMETHING TO DISTRACT US FROM THE GENERAL STRESS IN SCHOOL AND LIKE DEALING WITH SAYING LIKE SOME KIDS, THEY DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO SAFE SPACE AND YOU KNOW, TALKING TO COUNSELORS IS IMPORTANT. AND I THINK THAT ALSO KIND OF RECOMMENDED ACTIVITIES LIKE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL THAT THERE WAS A CARNIVAL BEFORE I LEFT, I THINK IT WAS LAST WEEK. IT WAS A FORMAL GAME GOING ON.

WE HAD A TECH ASSEMBLY AND WE HAD A BOMBSHELL.

AND I THINK HAVING MORE WAYS TO DISCONNECT FROM THE STRESS OF SCHOOL IS ONE WAY.

SOME KIDS SAID IT GOT MORE CONNECTED BECAUSE I DON'T THINK THERE SHOULD BE ANY SHAME IN ADMITTING SOMETIMES SCHOOL WAS REALLY STRESSFUL.

AND AS HARD AS WE TRY TO, YOU KNOW, DON'T MIND IT MORE INTERACTIVE AND MORE ENGAGING, IT'S, YOU KNOW, IT'S STILL LIKE A JOB AND THAT IT'S STRESS AFFECTS.

SO I THINK THE IDEA OF HAVING SOME OF THESE KIND OF GAMES TO DISCONNECT US FOR A LITTLE WHILE IS GOOD BECAUSE IT GIVES US TIME TO RESET.

SO I THINK JUST, YOU KNOW, RUSHING BACK AND IT'S JUST A NORMAL, NORMAL SCHOOL LIFE AND, YOU KNOW, JUST SCHOOL IN GENERAL FOR SMARTPHONES AND THE LIKE.

BUT SCHOOLS LOCKDOWN IS ONE OF THE STRUGGLES THAT YOU CAN JUST BASICALLY KIND.

IS THE PRESSURE TO BE A PERSON'S VISION OF THEM . BECAUSE PRESSURE CAN REALLY [INAUDIBLE] WHEN ALL THEIR EMOTIONS SEEMED BOTTLED UP.

THEY HADN'T EXPRESSED THEM SELF, OR EVEN TELL THE OTHERS WHAT THEY'RE GOING THROUGH.

SUICIDE HAS BEEN VERY RISING.

AND WE SHOULD ADDRESS HOW THE STUDENTS SHOULD FEEL AND KNOW ABOUT THESE.

SO I'VE BEEN TO SEE FRIENDS AND FAMILIES.

SO SOMETIMES THINGS ARE JUST LOST AND LOST IN COMMUNICATION.

AND I DON'T THINK THAT'S ANYONE'S FAULT.

AND FOR US I THINK THAT'S A LARGE BARRIER THAT NOT ONLY WE MAY HAVE AND WE MAY HAVE HERE, BUT LIKE THERE'S LANGUAGE BARRIERS AND THERE ARE COMMUNICATION BARRIERS.

AND I'M CONSTANTLY SEEING EVEN SOMETHING AS SMALL AS LIKE HOW I TEXT AND THEN THE BACKGROUND OF THE TEXT, WHICH IS HARD TO SEE THAT

IT'S TO HAVE THAT COMMUNICATION LIKE BECAUSE COMMUNICATION COULD BE THE KEY ON SO MANY STUDENTS STRUGGLES AND TO LISTEN TO THEM VERY CAREFULLY AND UNDERSTAND THEIR PERSPECTIVE. ONE THING I WANT TO ACHIEVE IS TO HAVE [INAUDIBLE] STUDENTS FEEL CONNECTED TO A GROUP, AND MAYBE THOSE GROUPS CAN.

A VERY HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT FOR EVERYONE.

I'M SORRY I REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO ASK THIS BUT CAN YOU REPEAT THE QUESTION? SURE. SO AMY, WHAT WOULD BE SOME OF YOUR GOALS IF YOU WERE TO SERVE IN THIS POSITION? WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH? SOME OF MY GOALS WOULD NOT JUST FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL, BUT FOR EVERY SCHOOL TO BE ABLE TO HAVE AN ANONYMOUS RESOURCE WHERE KIDS CAN GO AND OBVIOUSLY GET ADVICE FROM COUNSELORS ON HOW TO DEAL WITH THE STRUGGLES THEY CAN BE GOING THROUGH.

AND ANOTHER ONE IS IS JUST PUSHING FOR THE EDUCATION OF THINGS LIKE LGBTQ AND JUST ABOUT ALL THE MINORITIES.

BECAUSE I KNOW THE THING FROM WHEN PEOPLE ARE FEARFUL OF LIKE LGBTQ AND A MINORITY, IT'S BECAUSE OF IGNORANCE IS BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T EDUCATED ENOUGH AND THEY ONLY HEARD THE SIDE OF THE STORY WE'VE BEEN TELLING FOR YEARS ON THAT.

SO I REALLY WANT TO PUSH AND ACHIEVE GETTING MORE EDUCATION TO WHERE IT IS.

IT'S NOT THAT IT'S BAD.

LIKE ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE BAD.

THEY'RE NOT BAD AT ALL. IT'S JUST THESE PEOPLE, LIKE EVEN ADULTS, HAVE BEEN OBVIOUSLY RAISED UNDER CERTAIN INFLUENCES FROM THEIR PARENTS AND THEIR PARENTS HAVE GOT AN INFLUENCE FROM THEIR PARENTS.

IF YOU CAN START AT GROUND LEVEL WITH THIS GENERATION AND EDUCATING MORE ABOUT ALL THE PEOPLE WHOSE STORIES ARE TOLD.

IT'D BE REALLY GREAT TO GET AWAY THAT FEAR AND THE NAME CALLING, THE SLURS THAT PEOPLE MAY CALL THEM ON A DAILY BASIS, JUST BECAUSE KIDS ARE UNKNOWN TO THE STORIES OF OTHER PEOPLE.
