[00:00:01]
HMM. WELL, GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME TO THE FEBRUARY FERNDALE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING.
[1. CONVENE]
AT OUR NEW TIME OF 6:00, WE'RE GETTING STARTED JUST A FEW MINUTES LATE, BUT I THINK WE'LL HAMMER OUT SOME DETAILS.WE'VE GOT OUR NEW MIKING SYSTEM, SO HOPEFULLY THAT WILL HELP BOTH THE AUDIENCE HERE AS WELL AS THOSE AT HOME TO HEAR US BETTER.
SO AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.
AND IF WE COULD, WE'LL START THE MEETING WITH RECITING THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.
SO IF YOU'LL ALL PLEASE STAND AND JOIN ME.
I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
WELL, AGAIN, WELCOME AND THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.
THE FIRST ITEM WE HAVE TONIGHT, 1.03, IS TO RECITE THE LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT.
AND FOR THAT, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO CONG.
YES, YOU DO. SORRY ABOUT THAT.
WE THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT, ACKNOWLEDGE WE ARE RESIDING ON THE TRADITIONAL, ANCESTRAL AND UNCEDED TERRITORY OF THE LUMBEE PEOPLE.
THE LOVELY PEOPLE ARE THE ORIGINAL INHABITANTS OF WASHINGTON'S NORTHERNMOST COAST AND SOUTHERN BRITISH COLUMBIA.
THEY LIVED IN THE VILLAGES THROUGHOUT THIS TERRITORY AND CONTINUE TO HAVE AN ONGOING RELATIONSHIP WITH THESE AREAS.
SINCE TIME IMMEMORIAL, THEY HAVE CELEBRATED LIFE ON THEIR WATERWAYS AND ON THEIR TRADITIONAL, ANCESTRAL AND UNCEDED LANDS OF THEIR PEOPLE FOR WEIGHT, THEIR WAY OF LIFE.
WE HONOR THEIR ANCESTORS AS WE ACKNOWLEDGE THE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE LOVING PEOPLE AS THE ORIGINAL INHABITANTS OF THIS LAND.
THANK YOU, JAZZIE. SO NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA 2.01 IS TO ADOPT OUR AGENDA.
[2. ADOPTION OF AGENDA [GC-4.7]]
AND SO THE CHAIR WILL PROPOSE ONE CHANGE THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.AND THAT IS MOVING ITEM 9.04, WHICH IS TO APPROVE THE NEW BOARD POLICY 5515 FROM THE BOARD'S CONSENT AGENDA TO THE SUPERINTENDENT'S CONSENT AGENDA, MAKING IT ITEM 8.13.
CHANGES OR SUCH THAT NEED TO BE MADE.
YOU SURE CAN. WHAT'S THAT PURPOSE OF MOVING IT FROM THE BOARD TO THE SUPERINTENDENT? I DON'T UNDERSTAND. IT'S MORE OF A CLERICAL THING THAN ANYTHING ELSE.
IT IS A ADMINISTRATION POLICY THAT'S NOT UNDER THE BOARD.
IT'S A REQUIRED POLICY BY THE STATE, BUT IT FALLS UNDER THE SUPERINTENDENT'S JURISDICTION AS OPPOSED TO THE BOARD.
THANK YOU. YEP. ALSO, I WOULD LIKE TO PROPOSE IN ITS PLACE AN ITEM 4.02.
WE HAD RECENTLY HAD AN EMAIL REGARDING OUR LIABILITY FOR COVID RELATED THINGS, AND I WAS JUST WONDERING IF IT'S POSSIBLE TO HAVE A BRIEF DISCUSSION ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF GETTING OUR RISK MANAGEMENT PEOPLE TO EXPLAIN TO US TO COME TO A MEETING AND EXPLAIN TO US WHAT OUR WHAT OUR RISKS ARE.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE AS A BOARD, SO I WELCOME THAT OPPORTUNITY IF WE COULD DO THAT.
SO ARE YOU SUGGESTING AS FAR AS A DISCUSSION OF THAT, I'M ASSUMING AND MARC, CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, THAT THAT PROBABLY IS NOT SOMETHING THAT ANYONE HERE IS PREPARED TO SPEAK TO, BUT WE CAN CERTAINLY DISCUSS HAVING THEM COME.
OKAY. AND THAT WAS WHAT I MEANT WAS TO HAVE A PRESENTATION FROM THEM, YOU KNOW, EXPLAINING THINGS TO US. THANK YOU.
YEAH, IT'S YEAH, THAT'S HOW I'M INTERPRETING ESSENTIALLY REQUESTS FOR NEXT MONTH OR AT THEIR AVAILABILITY.
OKAY. SO ANY OTHER AGENDA CHANGES THAT NEED TO BE MADE OR ADDRESSED? OKAY. IF NONE, THEN THE CHAIR WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION.
I'LL MAKE A MOTION TO ADOPT THE AGENDA AS WRITTEN.
WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT ITEM 9.04 IS MOVED TO ITEM 8.13.
AND THEN YOU DISCUSS THE OTHER ITEM, ARE WE DISCUSSING OR IS THAT A REQUEST ALREADY MADE?
[00:05:03]
AND I DON'T KNOW IF WE NEED IT.IF IT'S JUST A REQUEST FOR NEXT MONTH'S AGENDA, THEN WE COULD JUST HAVE IT NEXT.
OKAY. SO IT HAS BEEN MOVED TO ADOPT THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED WITH THE ONE EXCEPTION OF MOVING ITEM 9.04 TO UP INTO THE SUPERINTENDENT'S CONSENT AGENDA, MAKING THAT ITEM 8.13.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING I.
SO. SO THAT BRINGS US TO ITEM 3.01, WHICH IS TO RECEIVE PUBLIC COMMENT.
[3. PUBLIC COMMENT [GC-3.3]]
AND ALTHOUGH PUBLIC COMMENT IS NOT REQUIRED THROUGH THE OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS ACT GUIDELINES, THE FERNDALE SCHOOL BOARD DOES WELCOME COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC AT ALL REGULARLY SCHEDULED SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS.THE BOARD HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THE ORDERLY OPERATION OF THE MEETINGS.
AND SO BEFORE WE OPEN THE FLOOR FOR PUBLIC COMMENT, I'D LIKE TO SHARE A FEW REMINDERS FOR ADDRESSING THE BOARD.
COMMENTS ARE TO BE LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES TO ENSURE THAT OTHERS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS THE BOARD. TIME MAY NOT BE DEFERRED DURING THE MEETING AND COMMENTS MAY BE DIRECTED TOWARDS PROGRAMS AND SCHOOL OPERATIONS THAT MAY NOT CONCERN ISSUES REGARDING SCHOOL PERSONNEL.
ITEMS REGARDING SCHOOL PERSONNEL CAN BE TAKEN UP WITH THE BOARD AND OR SUPERINTENDENT IN PRIVATE. THE BOARD WILL NOT RESPOND DIRECTLY TO COMMENTS, BUT WE'LL TAKE THEM UNDER ADVISEMENT AND IF NECESSARY, THE SUPERINTENDENT OR DESIGNEE MAY BE DIRECTED TO FOLLOW UP AFTERWARDS.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO THE BOARD THAT ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS FEEL WELCOMED AND SAFE AT BOARDS THAT THE BOARD'S BUSINESS MEETINGS.
SO WE ASK THE AUDIENCE TO TREAT ALL ATTENDEES WITH RESPECT AND CIVILITY.
BOARD POLICY NUMBER 5009 ON CIVILITY READS AS FOLLOWS THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT BELIEVES THAT A SAFE AND CIVIL ENVIRONMENT IS ESSENTIAL TO POSITIVE LEARNING BY STUDENTS AND STAFF. THIS SCHOOL SETTING SHOULD PROMOTE THE KIND OF CIVIL DISCOURSE AND FREE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS THAT ARE CENTRAL, BOTH TO HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION AND TO PREPARATION FOR THOUGHTFUL PARTICIPATION IN OUR DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY.
ADULTS IN THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT ARE EXPECTED TO MODEL CIVILITY THROUGH ALL INTERACTIONS WITH STUDENTS, PARENTS, VISITORS AND ONE ANOTHER.
THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS EXPECTS ADMINISTRATORS, FACULTY, STAFF, STUDENTS, PARENTS, VOLUNTEERS AND OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO TAKE AN ACTIVE ROLE IN MAINTAINING AND MEETING CLEAR EXPECTATIONS FOR RESPECTFUL CONDUCT, CIVIL DISCOURSE AND POSITIVE PROBLEM SOLVING THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
THE BOARD IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING TRAINING AND RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THESE EXPECTATIONS.
THE BOARD REFUSES TO CONDONE UNCIVIL CONDUCT ON SCHOOL GROUNDS OR AT SCHOOL SPONSORED ACTIVITIES, WHETHER BY STAFF, STUDENTS, PARENTS, VOLUNTEERS, COMMUNITY MEMBERS OR VISITORS. AS EDUCATORS, AS PARENTS AND AS CONCERNED CITIZENS.
WE RESPECT THE RIGHTS OF OUR FELLOW CITIZENS TO SHARE THEIR CONCERNS AND VOICE THEIR OPINIONS. HOWEVER, THIS MUST BE DONE IN A POLITE, RESPECTFUL MANNER.
EVERY ONE OF US HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO INSTILL IN OUR CHILDREN THEIR FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
BUT WE HAVE AN EVEN GREATER RESPONSIBILITY TO MODEL GOOD BEHAVIOR WHILE DOING SO.
AND WITH THAT, I'LL OPEN THE FLOOR TO PUBLIC COMMENT.
SO FIRST ON TONIGHT'S LIST IS MARGIE OVERHOLSER.
AND NOT SEEN MARGIE. SO THEN I WILL MOVE ON TO NANCY BUTTON.
THANK YOU. I NEED TO HOLD THIS TO BE HEARD.
YOU HOLD IT, AND IT'S A LITTLE WIDE.
YOU REALLY GOT. YOU KNOW, CLOSE.
A HARD LEFT TURN WAS EVIDENT IN THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT WHEN IT RECOMMENDED TEACHERS READ WHITE FRAGILITY AND BLIND SPOT.
BOTH BOOKS PROMOTE THE DAMAGING LEFTIST DOCTRINE KNOWN AS CRITICAL RACE THEORY.
NO BALANCE OF IDEAS WAS SUGGESTED TO BE READ SO OTHER PERSPECTIVES COULD BE CONSIDERED AND DISCUSSED. THOMAS SOWELL RACE AND CULTURE WAS NOT ON THE DISTRICT'S LIST.
NEITHER WAS ABIGAIL SHRIVER'S IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE NOR THE CODDLING OF THE AMERICAN MIND.
CRITICAL RACE THEORY IS PROMOTED BY THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION.
THE NEA PRESIDENT STATED, QUOTE, CRT IS BASED ON AN UNDERSTANDING THAT WHO WE ARE, THE LAWS WE HAVE IN PLACE, AND THE HISTORIES THAT HAVE BEEN HANDED DOWN TO US ALL HAVE BEEN SHAPED BY RACE.
[00:10:02]
UNQUOTE. CRT SEES EVERYTHING THROUGH THE LENS OF RACISM.IT VIEWS TRADITIONAL AMERICAN CULTURE AND VALUES AS SYSTEMICALLY RACIST.
THIS WILL GET IDEOLOGY FLIES IN THE FACE OF THE AMERICAN DREAM, THE IDEA THAT ANYONE CAN TRANSCEND THEIR ORIGINS THROUGH EDUCATION, HARD WORK AND GOOD CITIZENSHIP.
CRT IS BASED ON THE SAME DIVISIVE, OPPRESSOR OPPRESSED IDEOLOGY AS MARXISM.
INSTEAD OF CLASS DIVISION, CRT DIVIDES PEOPLE BY RACE AND WELCOMES OTHERS WHO IDENTIFY AS OPPRESSED, SUCH AS THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY.
SO SHOULD I PICK IT UP WHERE I LEFT OFF? OKAY, NO WORRIES.
WELL, INSTEAD OF CLASS DIVISION, CRT DIVIDES PEOPLE BY RACE AND WELCOMES OTHERS WHO IDENTIFY AS OPPRESSED, SUCH AS THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY, TO JOIN THEM IN THEIR VICTIMHOOD.
INDIVIDUALITY IS SUBMERGED BY GROUP IDENTITY.
THE CONCEPTS OF SHOWING UP ON TIME, PUTTING EFFORT INTO WORK, ADVANCING DUE TO MERIT, ASSIMILATING INTO AMERICAN CULTURE ARE ALL CONDEMNED BY CRT AS WHITE CONSTRUCTS THAT OPPRESS ANYONE WHO'S NOT WHITE.
EVEN TESTING STUDENTS IS SEEN AS RACIST.
GOVERNOR KATE BROWN OF OREGON REMOVED PASSING TESTS IN READING AND MATH FROM HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.
I'D HATE TO SEE OUR STATE GO DOWN THIS PATH, BUT THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL.
CRITICAL RACE THEORY PUTS THE LOCUS OF CONTROL ON OTHERS, NOT THE INDIVIDUAL.
CRT DOES NOT VIEW ONE CIRCUMSTANCES IN LIFE IN ANY WAY CONNECTED TO REASONS OTHER THAN RACIAL OPPRESSION.
ACCORDING TO CRT, IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO BE NON-RACIST.
ONE MUST BE ACTIVELY ANTI-RACIST.
THE NEA HAS LESSONS ON HOW TO TURN STUDENTS INTO ACTIVISTS.
BOOKS ARE BEING READ TO STUDENTS THAT HEIGHTEN THEIR AWARENESS OF RACE AND DIVIDE THEM FROM THEIR PEERS.
CAPITALISM ITSELF IS REJECTED BY CRT, IBRAM X, KENNEDY KENDI, A CRT LEADER, SAID, IN ORDER TO BE TRULY ANTI-RACIST, YOU HAVE TO BE ANTI-CAPITALIST.
MARTIN LUTHER KING'S DREAM OF A COLORBLIND SOCIETY GOOD ENOUGH EQUALITY, THE PRINCIPLE PROCLAIMED IN THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, DEFENDED IN THE CIVIL WAR AND CODIFIED INTO LAW IN WITH THE 14TH AND 15TH AMENDMENTS.
THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964 AND THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT OF 1965 ARE EXPLICITLY REJECTED BY CRT ACTIVISTS.
EQUITY REPLACES IT IN THE NAME OF EQUITY.
A CRITICAL RACE THEORIST AT UCLA PROPOSES SPENDING PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS, SEIZING LAND AND WEALTH AND REDISTRIBUTING THEM ACROSS RACIAL LINES.
CRT IS INDOCTRINATION INSTEAD OF EDUCATION, DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION ARE THE MECHANISMS FOR THIS INDOCTRINATION.
SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS REJECT THIS PATH.
HIRE A SUPERINTENDENT THAT WILL RETURN SCHOOLS TO EDUCATION INSTEAD OF INDOCTRINATION OF STUDENTS.
HI. MY NAME IS MARILYN BURWELL AND I LIVE IN FERNDALE.
I'M HERE TONIGHT TO TALK ABOUT TWO THINGS THAT ARE ACTUALLY ON YOUR AGENDA TONIGHT.
ONE, IS IT OF SECTION FOUR, WHERE YOU ARE GOING TO DISCUSS PRIORITIES FOR NEXT LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND AT THE SECOND PLACE.
THE EARLY CHILDHOOD READINESS ON IN SECTION SIX.
AND BASICALLY THIS IS ABOUT THE MANDATORY SCHOOL AGE IN WASHINGTON REMAINING AT THE EIGHT. THEY TRIED TO CHANGE IT TO FIVE, WHICH IS RECOMMENDED BY LOTS AND LOTS OF PEOPLE ALL ACROSS THE NATION AS BEING A STRUCTURAL CHANGE THAT COULD LEAD TO BETTER EQUITY IN OUR SOCIETY.
SO I'M I'M REALLY APPALLED BECAUSE I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS TEACHING BACK IN 1968, THE AGE WAS AT EIGHT.
AND SO WE'RE KIND OF DINOSAURS AND IT'S THE LOWEST OR THE HIGHEST COMPULSORY EDUCATION
[00:15:05]
AGE IN THE COUNTRY.SO I WOULD LIKE YOU TO PUT THAT ON YOUR LIST TO TAKE TO THE LEGISLATURE NEXT YEAR, BECAUSE IT'S FAILED THIS PAST YEAR THAT THE AGE FOR MANDATORY AGE FOR STARTING YOUR EDUCATION IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON IS FIVE.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MARILYN.
I'M RUSS TALLMAN, SENIOR BUS DRIVER FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT HERE.
I WENT HOME TODAY AND MY WIFE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A BUS DRIVER.
I WOULD HOPE THAT THE BOARD WOULD CONSIDER.
WITH ALL THE INFORMATION THAT'S COMING OUT.
AND WE CERTAINLY CAN'T BELIEVE ALL OF IT.
THAT PEOPLE REFUSE TO GET THE SHOT.
I PERSONALLY HAVE A DAUGHTER THAT HAS WATER AROUND THE HEART.
HER HUSBAND HAD CROHN'S BEFORE THAT AND IT'S WORSE.
MY RENTER, WHO'S 82 YEARS OLD, DEVELOPED CLOTS A WEEK AFTER THE SHOT.
MY NEIGHBOR WITHIN A QUARTER MILE OF ME.
WAS A VOLUNTEER AT THE HOSPITAL LINED UP FIRST.
ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE IN LINE AND KILLED OVER AT THE TIME OF THE SHOT AND HAD AN ISCHEMIC STROKE.
SHE STILL HAS A LITTLE BIT OF SHE'S RECOVERED.
I DON'T KNOW THAT MANY PEOPLE.
ON MY BUS, ROUTE ONE WHO IS SEVEN MONTHS PREGNANT.
SHE WAS STANDING OUT THERE WITH HER JUMP STARTER.
AND SHE SAID, I JUST I JUST GOT MY BOOSTER SHOT YESTERDAY.
AND SHE HAS TWO HEALTHY SEVEN MONTH OLDS DOWN AT THE UW WHO WILL BE THERE FOR THE NEXT TWO MONTHS. THEY'RE HEALTHY ENOUGH TO THEY'RE HEALTHY ENOUGH TO BREASTFEED, BUT THEY'LL BE DOWN THERE FOR TWO MONTHS.
ANOTHER AUNT OF A CHILD OF MINE THAT I DRIVE LOST HER BABY.
WHETHER IT'S COINCIDENCE, YOU KNOW, WE DON'T KNOW.
BUT I'M ASKING. I'M ASKING YOU.
TO. TO FORGIVE THE FACT THAT THERE WERE SOME PEOPLE.
THAT. WEREN'T BLINDED BY THE CHAOS OF LIFE THAT FILTERED THINGS OUT, THAT SAID SOMETHING'S NOT RIGHT HERE.
AND IF IF ANY OF YOU CAN YOU RAISE YOUR HANDS IF YOU'VE READ ROBERT F KENNEDY'S BOOK ON THE ON FOUSHEE.
HAS ANYBODY READ THAT BOOK? NOT. NOT A SINGLE PERSON.
CAN YOU RESPOND? HAVEN'T. NONE OF YOU HAVE.
YOU KNOW, I ASKED I ASKED OUR UNION REPRESENTATIVE TO READ IT OVER TWO MONTHS AGO. HE HASN'T HAD TIME.
NOW, IF YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE TIME, IF YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO READ IT.
OKAY. YOU'RE NOT INFORMING YOURSELF.
AND I HAVE TO ASSUME THAT IF LIFE IS THAT BUSY, THAT YOU CAN'T LOOK AT THE OTHERS, THE OTHER SIDE, THE SECOND OPINION, THEN YOU NEED SOME MORE DIVERSIFICATION ON THIS BOARD.
AND YOU KNOW, MY GRANDCHILDREN, THEY WANT TO MOVE ON TO MY PROPERTY.
THEY'RE GOING TO GO TO SCHOOL HERE.
OKAY. I WANT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO BE AS GOOD AS POSSIBLE.
[00:20:07]
AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS.REACHED OUT AND WITH WE'VE WE'VE GOT PEOPLE OF COLOR.
ON, YOU KNOW, IN THE DISTRICT IN POSITIONS.
ANYBODY HERE? THAT'S. CONSERVATIVE THAT REPRESENTS THE CONSERVATIVE CONSERVATIVE SIDE.
CAN YOU RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU'RE A CONSERVATIVE? ARE YOU WILLING TO DO THAT? THERE'S ONE CONSERVATIVE.
SHE'S NEW. THE DIVERSITY THAT WE LACK.
PEOPLE ARE CRYING OUT FOR FOR SOME FAIRNESS.
TO REDUCE THE POTENTIAL RISK DOWN THE ROAD FOR FINANCIAL LIABILITY IS THAT YOU OFFER THE JOBS BACK AND THE BACK PAY TO THE DRIVERS THAT STOOD UP FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVED IN.
AND IF THEY REFUSE IT, THEN YOUR LIABILITY IS ZERO.
BUT AT LEAST GIVE GIVE THEM A CHANCE.
I WANT TO BE ABLE TO TAKE A SICK DAY.
I COME. I CAME BACK THREE YEARS AGO.
BASICALLY, SOMETHING WAS DRASTICALLY WRONG.
I GOT DIAGNOSED TWICE AS HAVING PNEUMONIA.
IT TURNED OUT I WAS IN CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE BECAUSE SOMEBODY MISDIAGNOSED MY ASTHMA AS ASTHMA RATHER THAN HEART FAILURE.
AND I PUMPED ALBUTEROL IN MY BODY UNTIL MY HEART WAS VIRTUALLY GOING TO COLLAPSE.
I GO HOME AND SLEEP FOR THE 3 HOURS BETWEEN THE BUS RUNS.
LIKE EVERYONE FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING. TONIGHT.
GOOD EVENING. SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS.
STAFF. MY NAME IS ANYA MILTON, AND I KNOW YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT.
HOWEVER, THE HAT I AM WEARING THIS EVENING IS THAT OF A MEMBER OF CONNECT FERNDALE WANTED TO INTRODUCE TO YOU WHAT CONNECT FERNDALE IS CONNECT FERNDALE CULTIVATES COMMUNITY GROWTH AND CONNECTION THROUGH CIVIC PARTICIPATION, COMMUNITY BUILDING TO ADVANCE INCLUSION EXCUSE ME TO ADVANCE INCLUSION, HONOR DIVERSITY AND ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION FOR EVERYONE IN OUR COMMUNITY.
EVERYONE. INCLUDING DISSENTING THOUGHTS.
WE HOPE TO INFLUENCE KEY FOR FOUR KEY AREAS IN 2022 EDUCATION, CITY GOVERNMENT, LAW ENFORCEMENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.
I WANTED TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO INTRODUCE OUR GROUP TO YOU AND LET YOU KNOW THAT WE HAVE PRIORITIZED ATTENDING SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS TO STAY TUNED TO THE DISTRICT'S EFFORTS AND INCREASING EQUITY AND TO OFFER OPPORTUNITIES TO STUDENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN ANTI-RACIST AND EQUITY WORK LEADING TO A MORE INCLUSIVE FERNDALE.
WE BELIEVE THAT WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER AND WE ARE COMMITTED TO A COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO DECISION MAKING AND COMMUNITY BUILDING THAT STRENGTHENS FERNDALE.
WE SUPPORT A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT THAT CHALLENGES ALL INDIVIDUALS TO GROW AND EXCEL THROUGH ACTIVE LISTENING, ENGAGEMENT AND RISK TAKING TO BROADEN PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT.
CONNECT FERNDALE IS A PROGRAM OF THE NEWLY FUNDED FERNDALE COMMUNITY SERVICE COOPERATIVE. INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION CAN BE FOUND AT CONNECT FERNDALE DOT ORG. THANK YOU.
THANK YOU, ANYA. NEXT IS SUSAN PROSSER.
HELLO. YOU HAVE SWORN AN OATH TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES, THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, AND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
YOU HAVE FAILED TO UPHOLD BOTH OF THESE CONSTITUTIONS.
[00:25:01]
WE LIVE IN AMERICA AND ARE FREE TO LIVE OUR LIVES WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS, ABUSE AND UNLAWFUL MANDATES FROM ELECTED GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS.MANDATES ARE NOT ENFORCEABLE LAWS.
AS AN ELECTED PUBLIC SERVANT, YOU HAVE NO JURISDICTION OR AUTHORITY TO CREATE OR ENFORCE MANDATES.
YOU AND EVERYONE EMPLOYED BY THIS DISTRICT, SUCH AS TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS, HAVE ENGAGED IN THE PRACTICE OF MEDICINE WITHOUT A LICENSE, WHICH IS A VIOLATION OF STATE LAW.
YOU'RE RECOMMENDING MEDICAL PROCEDURES SUCH AS MASK WEARING AND VACCINATIONS WITHOUT THE PROPER LICENSE.
YOU AND OTHERS EMPLOYED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT ENFORCE UNLAWFUL DEMANDS FOR CHILDREN TO WEAR MASKS.
AND IF AND IF THEY DON'T, YOU DEPRIVE THEM OF THEIR RIGHT TO AN EDUCATION.
BE IT KNOWN THAT YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE LAW IN ABSENCE OF DUE PROCESS OF LAW BY ISSUING ORDINANCES, ORDERS, MANDATES AND OTHER STATEMENTS THAT CREATE A CULTURE OF LAW BUT THAT ARE NOT ACTUAL LAW, AND YOU DO NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO DO SO.
THEREFORE, YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN A CONSPIRACY THAT IS IN VIOLATION OF YOUR OATH OF OFFICE. AS AN OATH SWORN PUBLIC SERVANT.
YOU ARE GOVERNED BY THE CONTRACTS ESTABLISHED BY FEDERAL AND WASHINGTON STATE CONSTITUTION AND FEDERAL CODES AND STATUTES.
BE ON NOTICE THAT YOU WILL BE HELD FULLY RESPONSIBLE AND PERSONALLY LIABLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS UNDER THE PERTINENT US CODES AND CRIMINAL AND CIVIL STATUTES, SOME OF WHICH ARE SET FORTH IN THIS NOTICE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THIS NOTICE.
OUR CHILDREN HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE WITHOUT REQUIREMENTS OR MANDATES THAT RESTRICT THEIR ABILITY TO BREATHE FREELY.
FORCING MANDATES ON CHILDREN HAS CAUSED BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS, LEARNING DISABILITIES AND DAMAGED SOCIAL SKILLS.
YOU, ALONG WITH YOUR SCHOOL BOARD, HAVE VOTED TO UPHOLD UNLAWFUL MANDATES THAT HAVE INTERFERED WITH THE CIVIL RIGHTS AND ABILITIES OF THE TEACHERS, PRINCIPALS AND PRINCIPALS, THEREBY PREVENTING THEM FROM PERFORMING THEIR DUTIES.
YOU HAVE PLACED RESTRICTIONS ON THE SCHOOLS AND PRINCIPALS THAT FORCE THEM TO FOLLOW THESE MANDATES REQUIREMENTS OR BE RELIEVED OF THEIR DUTIES, WHICH OBVIOUSLY WE KNOW THAT YOU FIRED SOME OF OUR BEST EMPLOYEES.
TEACHERS OF THE DISTRICT HAVE BEEN COERCED INTO ACCEPTING AN EXPERIMENTAL VACCINE TO CONTINUE THEIR EMPLOYMENT.
IT'S ALL WRONG. YOU KNOW IT'S WRONG.
THE SCHOOL BOARD AND SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT HAVE A FIDUCIARY DUTY TO ALL THE STAFF, CHILDREN AND PARENTS OF THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT.
AS AN ELECTED PUBLIC SERVANT, YOU HAVE BREACHED THE DUTY TO SERVE THIS COMMUNITY AND UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES.
ANY PRODUCT THAT IS NOT DEEMED FDA APPROVED CANNOT BE ENFORCED OR MANDATED.
MASKS, PCR TESTING AND VACCINES ARE UNDER EMERGENCY USE AUTHORIZATION ONLY, AND IT IS ILLEGAL FOR ANY FEDERAL OR STATE GOVERNMENT TO MANDATE SUCH ITEMS. FURTHERMORE, YOU AND YOUR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS DO NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO MANDATE UI PRODUCTS.
MANY CHILDREN THAT ATTEND CLASSES WITHIN THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT HAVE DISABILITIES.
IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO FORCE THE USE OF MASK ON THESE CHILDREN.
MANY CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES CANNOT SAFELY WEAR A MASK.
THE TOOLKIT STATES INDIVIDUALS WHO CANNOT SAFELY WEAR A MASK ARE EXEMPT.
HOWEVER, YOU AND YOUR SCHOOL BOARD HAVE NOT ADHERED TO THIS.
CONVERSELY, YOU HAVE DEMANDED THAT ALL CHILDREN ATTENDING SCHOOL WEAR A MASK.
OUR PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS HAVE BECOME A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR CHILDREN.
THE SCHOOL BOARD HAS ENFORCED ILLEGAL MASK POLICIES AND HAS ALLOWED OFFENSIVE MATERIALS TO ENTER INTO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
IF THESE VIOLATIONS DO NOT STOP, I WILL FILE A CLAIM AGAINST YOUR RISK MANAGEMENT POLICY.
YOU HAVE 72 HOURS FROM TODAY TO CORRECT THESE VIOLATIONS.
ALL THE SCHOOLS IN THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
THIS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING STOP COERCING ALL FORMS OF COVID 19 PROPAGANDA CONCERNING HOW DANGEROUS THIS IS TO OUR PARENTS AND OUR GRANDPARENTS.
THAT ALL CHILDREN SHOULD WANT TO SAVE THEIR LIVES BY GETTING THE VACCINE, AND THAT THEY CAN CHOOSE FOR THEMSELVES AND THEY DON'T NEED THE CONSENT OF THEIR PARENTS TO DO THIS.
END ALL VACCINE CLINICS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS AND ALL MANDATORY MASK REQUIREMENTS.
THIS INCLUDES FORCING VACCINES ON TEACHERS AND MASKING THE TEACHERS OF THE DISTRICT.
ALL OF THEM. REMOVE ALL OBSCENE BOOKS AND MATERIAL FROM THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM IMMEDIATELY. REMOVE ALL BOYS FROM THE GIRLS LOCKER ROOMS AND BATHROOMS AND VICE VERSA.
FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE ITEMS WITHIN 72 HOURS AFTER RECEIVING THIS NOTICE WILL RESULT IN A CLAIM BEING FILED AGAINST THE RISK MANAGEMENT SURETY BOND FOR THE
[00:30:01]
FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE FULL AMOUNT OF THE COVERAGE.FURTHERMORE, I WILL FOLLOW THROUGH AND FILE IN FEDERAL COURT OF COLE AGAINST YOU.
I AM A WHISTLEBLOWER AND I AM TURNING IN WHAT I PERCEIVE TO BE ILLEGAL AND UNETHICAL ACTS COMMITTED IN THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT BY OFFICIALS AGAINST CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF CONSENT. ALL TEACHERS AND OTHER SCHOOL STAFF ARE MANDATED REPORTERS WHEN IT COMES TO CHILD ABUSE OR SEXUAL ABUSE OR BULLYING BEHAVIORS THAT CAN CAUSE CHILDREN LONG TERM HARM.
AS A WHISTLEBLOWER, IT IS MY FIDUCIARY DUTY TO REPORT WRONGDOING TO THE APPROPRIATE AUTHORITIES, SUCH AS LAW ENFORCEMENT AND OR CPS, AND TO MAKE THE REPORTS IN GOOD FAITH.
AS A WHISTLEBLOWER, I AM PROTECTED BY WASHINGTON STATE AND FEDERAL LAWS, AND I AM NOT TO BE RETALIATED AGAINST.
THEREFORE, I MAKE THIS REPORT IN GOOD FAITH AND ASK THAT YOU FOLLOW THE LAWS OF THIS STATE, THE US GOVERNMENT AND INTERNATIONAL LAW SUCH AS THE NUREMBERG CODES.
ANY FORM OF RETALIATION AGAINST ME IN VERBAL OR WRITTEN FORM WILL BE CONSIDERED RETALIATORY BEHAVIOR AND IS SANCTIONABLE ON AN INDIVIDUAL LEVEL WHEN MAKING AN INSURANCE CLAIM. AND I HAVE SOME PAPERS FOR YOU.
AND PEGGY DOESN'T GET ONE BECAUSE PEGGY WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT STOOD UP AND SAID, NEW, WE'RE NOT GOING TO BULLY THESE PEOPLE.
SHE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT STOOD UP.
EVERY ONE OF YOU SHOULD GET A BACKBONE.
SO NEXT WE HAVE JEANIE ROSSER.
THANK YOU. I JUST WANT TO SAY MY NAME IS GENE ROSSER.
I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT I IDENTIFY AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN AND NOT ALL WHO IDENTIFY DIFFERENTLY, SEE THEMSELVES AS VICTIMS JUST FAR TOO OFTEN TARGETS AND ABUSED.
AND A WORD ABOUT PEOPLE WHO IDENTIFY DIFFERENTLY.
SOME KIDS IDENTIFY DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE THEY CAN NO LONGER IDENTIFY AS THEMSELVES BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN SO ABUSED THAT THEY JUST DON'T WANT TO BE THEMSELVES ANYMORE.
AND THAT'S SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE TO THINK ABOUT EVERY TIME THEY SEE SOMEBODY FROM THE SO-CALLED LGBTQ COMMUNITY, BECAUSE A LOT OF THEM ARE POSERS.
BUT SOME OF THEM ARE TRULY, TRULY ABUSED CHILDREN.
IN 2019 AFTER WE BOUGHT A HOUSE IN FERNDALE BECAUSE MY HUSBAND WAS HIRED AS THE DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION, BOTH HE AND I ENTHUSIASTICALLY SUPPORTED THE LEVY, WHICH NEVERTHELESS FAILED, REQUIRING THE DISTRICT TO UNFORTUNATELY CUT BACK ON GOOD PERSONNEL.
THIS YEAR, HOWEVER, MY HUSBAND VOTED AGAINST THE LEVY AND I ABSTAINED.
WHILE I COULD NOT BRING MYSELF TO VOTING AGAINST THE CHILDREN WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN FORCED. WHO? LOOK AT THIS. GET IT? ALL RIGHT. WHILE I COULD NOT BRING MYSELF TO VOTE AGAINST THE CHILDREN WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN FORCED TO ENDURE WHAT AMOUNTS TO, IN MY OPINION, CRUEL AND UNUSUAL.
UNDUE. HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE PUNISHMENT.
NEITHER COULD I BRING MYSELF TO VOTE TO FURTHER ENABLE WHAT HAS AMOUNTED TO EITHER INCOMPETENCE OR OUTRIGHT DISCRIMINATION ON THE PART OF THE ADMINISTRATION.
RECORDED COMMENT FROM PREVIOUS BOARD MEETINGS REFLECTS THE SERIOUS CONCERNS RAISED BY PARENTS, TEACHERS, STAFF AND OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS REGARDING ALL WRONGFUL MATTERS. IN THE CASE OF WRONGFUL TERMINATIONS THAT OCCURRED DUE TO DISCRIMINATING TREATMENT OF SOME STAFF AND THE COMPLETE LACK OF DUE PROCESS THAT MIGHT HAVE AVOIDED SUCH HARMFUL TREATMENT AT TAXPAYERS EXPENSE.
IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT THE REQUIREMENTS SUDDENLY AND HAPHAZARDLY ISSUED, WHICH WERE NOT PART OF THEIR JOB DESCRIPTIONS, BUT WHICH WERE DISCRETIONARY, USED TO TERMINATE SUCH STAFF'S EMPLOYMENT.
THESE NEGLIGENT REQUIREMENTS WILL BE.
WITHDRAWN BY THE STATE NEXT MONTH.
[00:35:02]
WILL THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD THEREBY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THESE WRONGFULLY TERMINATED STAFF ARE IN FACT WELL QUALIFIED FOR THEIR JOBS? AT ANY RATE.APOLOGY, AT THE VERY LEAST, IS IN ORDER.
RESTITUTION, HOWEVER, IS WARRANTED.
AS A WELL KNOWN, HOMEGROWN WASHINGTON STATE INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER ONCE SAID, GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK.
THANK YOU, JEAN. NEXT WE HAVE PAUL ROSSER.
HELLO. MY NAME IS PAUL ROSSER.
CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING THE LEVEE PASSED.
GOOD, BUT NOT SO GOOD NOW THAT THE ONEROUS MASK MANDATE WILL BE LIFTED ON 21 MARCH.
I HOPE THE BOARD WILL MOVE TO REINSTATE AND MAKE WHOLE THE BUS DRIVERS YOU CALLOUSLY LET GO IN NOVEMBER.
AND YOUR TRANSPORTATION SECTION IS GETTING SMOKED.
HIRING THOSE BUS DRIVERS BACK WILL PROVIDE THAT RELIEF THAT YOU GUYS SO DESPERATELY NEED. NEXT ON THE COVID VACCINE FOR CHILDREN.
INSURANCE COMPANIES AND FUNERAL HOMES ARE ALREADY STARTING TO SHOW DATA THAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN VAXXED ARE GETTING ILL AND DYING.
THE CDC IS DIRECTING THE INFORMATION THAT THEY'RE GOING TO HOLD WITHHOLD INFORMATION BECAUSE IT'S TOO HARD FOR PEOPLE TO COMPREHEND.
MADDERN THE STOCK'S ALREADY TAKEN A DOVE.
I BELIEVE PFIZER IS RIGHT BEHIND IT OR CLOSE TO IT.
KENNEDY'S BOOK, THE REAL ANTHONY FAUCI AND DR.
LEONARD HOROWITZ'S BOOK, THE COVERT COUP LAY BARE THE HIGH CRIMES BROUGHT TO US BY ANTHONY FAUCI AND HIS ILK.
THE SIMPLE FACT THAT MR. TOLES ASKED IF YOU GUYS HAVE DONE ANY HOMEWORK AND READ IT AND NOBODY RAISED YOUR YOUR HAND, THAT IS CONCERNING.
AS PUBLIC SERVANTS, YOU AREN'T DOING YOUR JOB.
YOU AREN'T DOING YOUR YOUR DUE DILIGENCE.
CURRENTLY IN QUESTION FOR THE CHILDREN IS THAT THIS IS AN UNTESTED VAX.
THEY DON'T KNOW THE LONG TERM IMPLICATIONS TO THIS.
SO IN TEN YEARS OR 20 YEARS, WHEN YOU'RE SITTING THERE WITH YOUR CHILDREN OR YOUR GRANDCHILDREN, WILL THEY BE HEALTHIER? WILL THEY BE SICK AND DEAD? THAT'S SOMETHING ALL OF Y'ALL HAD TO SEARCH YOUR SOUL.
IN FACT, THE WHOLE COUNTRY NEEDS TO SEARCH THEIR SOUL RIGHT NOW ON WHAT IS HAPPENING.
THE FRAUD IS GOING TO COME OUT.
THE HIGH CRIMES ARE GOING TO COME OUT.
I RECOMMEND YOU GUYS DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE AND START TO TRY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
TRYING TO SAY IT'S NOT GOING AWAY.
IT WON'T AND IT WON'T BE ME TELLING YOU THIS.
YOU'LL SEE IT. IT WILL BE PLAYED OUT.
MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS NOT GOING TO PLAY IT OUT JUST YET.
THEY'LL HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT.
AND I HOPE THAT IF THE STATE DECIDES THAT EVERY KID NEEDS TO BE VAXXED, THAT THE BOARD WILL SAY NO AND WE'LL STAND UP TO THE HEALTH AUTHORITIES AND TO THE TYRANT DOWN IN OLYMPIA AND SAY NO TO THIS UNLAWFUL, UNSCIENTIFIC, UNTESTED VACCINE.
THAT'S ALL I HAVE. THANK YOU, PAUL.
NEXT. TONIGHT, WE HAVE DOM FROM.
GOOD EVENING. TONIGHT, I WOULD LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE VERY TOUCHY CONCEPT OF EQUITY AND INCLUSION AS IMPLEMENTED HERE AND IN MANY OTHER DISTRICTS NATIONWIDE.
[00:40:02]
THE AMERICAN HERITAGE DICTIONARY DEFINES EQUITY AS THE STATE OR QUALITY OF BEING JUST AND FAIR. THE DEFINITION ITSELF SUGGESTS THE NEED TO DEFINE JUST AND FAIR.A POLITICALLY AND RACIALLY MOTIVATED PERSON WOULD WANT JUSTICE AND FAIRNESS BASED ON THE EQUALITY OF OUTCOME.
WHICH WOULD OFTEN BE TIED TO THE SKIN COLORS OF THE PARTIES INVOLVED.
HOWEVER, REALITY PROVES THAT THIS KIND OF EQUITY IS VERY SUBJECTIVE AND ARBITRARY, AND ONE COULD ARGUABLY, ARGUABLY SAY THAT IT IS RACIST IN ITSELF.
THE REASON IS THAT IN ORDER TO APPLY THIS KIND OF EQUITY BASED ON RACE, ONE OR MORE RACIAL GROUPS WOULD BE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST WHEN BEING DENIED OF CERTAIN EMPLOYMENT, SOCIAL, ECONOMIC OR EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES.
FOR EXAMPLE, I HAVE READ SEVERAL NEWS ARTICLES POINTING OUT THE FACT THAT NOT ONLY WHITES, BUT ALSO ASIAN STUDENTS WHOSE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT GENERALLY EXCEEDS ALL OTHER GROUPS, EXPERIENCE UNFAIR TREATMENT WHEN THEIR COLLEGE ADMISSION FORMS ARE REJECTED BECAUSE OF THE RACIAL PREFERENCE FAVORING BLACK APPLICANTS.
I WANT TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO REJECT THE MYTH PERPETUATED BY THE LEFT AND THE CORPORATE MEDIA THAT RACISM IS RESERVED EXCLUSIVELY FOR WHITE PEOPLE ONLY.
ON THE CONTRARY, RACISM IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY BELIEF.
POTENTIALLY APPLICABLE TO ALL RACES, AND IT'S MOSTLY DERIVED FROM LEARNED BEHAVIOR.
I SAY THAT BASED ON THE FACT THAT THE VERY FIRST RACIALLY MOTIVATED INCIDENT THAT I ENCOUNTERED SHORTLY AFTER ARRIVING TO THIS COUNTRY ACTUALLY INVOLVED A BLACK PERSON.
EVEN SO, I NEVER ALLOWED THAT EXPERIENCE EXPERIENCE TO ALTER MY BELIEF THAT ONE IS NEVER TO, QUOTE, BE JUDGED BY THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN, BUT ONLY BY THE CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER, UNQUOTE.
I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE ONLY EQUITABLE WAY TO BE JUST AND FAIR IS TO SET STANDARDS BASED ON PERFORMANCE AND MERIT.
WHAT ABOUT THE INCLUSION PART OF THE TOPIC? WELL, I FIND THE TERM VERY HOLLOW AND IRONIC BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE WHO WORKED IN THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS, INCLUDING ME, HAVE BEEN FIRED SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY REJECT THE ILLEGAL AND IMMORAL MANDATES HANDED DOWN FROM THE TOP.
IN THE END, HOW CAN YOU TEACH STUDENTS TO BE JUST FAIR AND INCLUSIVE WHEN YOU MOST OF THE BOARD MEMBERS AND THE ADMINISTRATORS IGNORE THE RIGHT OF CONSCIENCE AS STIPULATED IN THE CONSTITUTION AND PROTECTED BY THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT, AND DECIDED TO EXCLUDE THOSE WHO WANT TO EXERCISE THEIR FREEDOM OF CHOICE.
I APPRECIATE THE NEW ADVISORY BEFORE THE PUBLIC COMMENT.
DR. KEVIN THERE, I'D LIKE TO REMIND THE BOARD OF A PORTION OF MY OCTOBER COMMENTS THAT'S DIRECTLY RELATED TO THAT SCOTUS CASE LAW PROTECTS VEHEMENT, CAUSTIC AND SOMETIMES UNPLEASANTLY SHARP ATTACKS ON GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC OFFICIALS.
EXCERPT THE SUPREME COURT, IN AN OPINION WRITTEN BY JUSTICE WILLIAM BRENNAN, REVIEWED THE MATTER AGAINST THE BACKGROUND OF A PROFOUND NATIONAL COMMITMENT TO THE PRINCIPLE THAT DEBATE ON PUBLIC ISSUES SHOULD BE UNINHIBITED, ROBUST AND WIDE OPEN, AND THAT IT MAY VERY WELL INCLUDE VEHEMENT, CAUSTIC AND SOMETIMES UNPLEASANTLY SHARP ATTACKS ON GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC OFFICIALS.
THAT'S NEW YORK TIMES VERSUS SULLIVAN, 1964.
HOPEFULLY ALL THE KIDS ARE LEARNING THAT IN THEIR HISTORY CLASSES.
MR.. MR.. OSTER DID YOU GUYS KNOW IT WAS SCHOOL BUS APPRECIATION WEEK? I SAW IT ON FACEBOOK ON THE ON THE SCHOOL'S FACEBOOK PAGE.
DO YOU GUYS FEEL APPRECIATED? DOES ANYBODY ANY OF THE FIRE BUS DRIVERS FEEL APPRECIATED? MARK, DID YOUR TEAM PICK UP ON THE COGNITIVE DISSONANCE IN THIS POST AND THE AFTERMATH OF FIRING ALL THESE LONG SERVING BUS DRIVERS LAST FALL? IT'S CLEAR YOU NEED TO DO THE RIGHT THING, HIRE THESE FOLKS BACK ASAP, AND I NEED EVERY ONE OF YOU BOARD MEMBERS TO SUPPORT THAT.
GET THAT DONE. NOW, LET'S SEE WHAT ELSE IS ON THE SCHOOL'S FACEBOOK PAGE.
[00:45:01]
BLACK HISTORY MONTH BUILDING UPDATE.NO SCHOOL FRIDAY. NO SCHOOL MONDAY MUSICAL.
HOW TO COPE WITH STRESS BY MAKING WORRY STONES MOCK OLYMPICS METRIC TON OF POSTS ABOUT THE LEVEE EARLY RELEASE DAYS NO SCHOOL TOMORROW TREATY DAY EARLY RELEASE DAY SPORTS FINALLY SOMETHING RELATED TO EDUCATION HERE HERE IT IS.
MATH OLYMPIAD. WELL, NOT SURPRISING.
THERE'S NOT MORE POSTS LIKE THIS GIVEN YOUR OVERALL PERFORMANCE REPORT READS LIKE THIS.
STUDENT PERFORMANCE MET GRADE STANDARDS ON THE STATE ADMINISTERS TEST IN THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS.
46% MET THE GRADE STANDARD MATH 26% MET THE GRADE LEVEL STANDARD ON ADMINISTER TEST SCIENCE 58% A LITTLE BIT BETTER THERE.
HEY, IS THIS WHAT WE'RE PAYING 80 MILLION BUCKS FOR? HONESTLY, IS THIS WHAT WE'RE GETTING 17,000 BUCKS OF? STUDENT ARE WE GETTING OUR MONEY'S WORTH WITH THIS? TWO THIRDS OF OUR PROPERTY TAXES GO DIRECTLY TO FUND EDUCATION, INCLUDING THE LEVY JUST PASSED. ARE WE GETTING OUR MONEY'S WORTH? SWITCHING GEARS, YOU GUYS SEE THE SUPER BOWL? NO MASKS EVER.
YOU HEAR WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING AROUND THE SCHOOLS AROUND WASHINGTON STATE SHORTLY BEFORE AN ONGOING SINCE STUDENTS PROTESTING MASKS, PARENTS SPEAKING OUT AGAINST MASK MANDATES AND BOARD MEETINGS LIKE THIS, BRAVE SCHOOL BOARDS IN OTHER PARTS OF THE STATE, PASSING RESOLUTIONS TO REMOVE THE MASKS.
RIGHT. ALL IN OCI NOW ARE GASLIGHTING THE MEDIA SAYING HE WANTS THE MASK OFF, TOO.
AND ALL THAT PRESSURE HAS INSLEE NOW ANNOUNCING A MAGIC DATE IN THE FUTURE? MAGIC THE 30TH 21ST OF MARCH.
IT WILL BE SAFE TO REMOVE THE MASKS.
AND YOU'LL FACE NO BLOWBACK FROM OCI BECAUSE PER THEIR PUNITIVE, PUNITIVE LITTLE PROCESS IN HOW THEY PUNISH SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOR BEING NON-COMPLIANT, THEY WON'T BE ABLE TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST YOU BEFORE THE 21ST GETS HERE.
SO, YOU KNOW, WHO ARE YOU LOOKING TO FOR MEDICAL ADVICE? WASHINGTON BOARD OF WALKING BOARD OF HEALTH.
THEY TAKE ALL THEIR DIRECTIONS AND CUES FROM THE CDC, WHO HAS ADMITTED THIS WEEK THAT WE'RE WITHHOLDING DATA BECAUSE IT MIGHT DRIVE VACCINE HESITANCY.
EVEN BILL GATES TOLD US THIS WEEK IT'S ALL OVER.
AL-MUQRIN HAS DONE A BETTER JOB OF IMMUNIZING THE WORLD THAN ANY VACCINES.
COME ON. THIS IS ALL READILY APPARENT.
NOW, WHERE WE'RE AT, YOU GUYS CAN PASS A RESOLUTION AND YOU CAN GET THE MASKS OFF THE KIDS AND GET THE MANDATES OUT OF THE SCHOOLS.
AND YOU CAN DO IT NOW AND OSP WON'T BE ABLE TO TOUCH YOU.
HERE'S YOUR FORECAST FOR YOU, FOR YOU AND YOUR FORECAST.
ALL YOU HAVE IS YOUR REPORT CARD.
YOUR REPORT CARD. LOOK WHAT YOU NEED.
THE REPORT CARD. THANK YOU, ANDREW.
SO THAT'S ALL I HAVE FOR PUBLIC COMMENT.
[4. MATTERS RESERVED FOR BOARD ACTION]
AND WITH THAT, WE WILL MOVE ON TO ITEM 4.01, WHICH IS TO DISCUSS THE LAWS TO LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVE AGENDA.AND FOR THAT, I WILL TURN IT OVER TO.
ALL RIGHTY. SO LAST MONTH WE DECIDED I WOULD BE THE LEEDS REP FOR THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT. AS WE KNOW, WE HAVE A LEGISLATIVE SESSION THAT'S GOING ON RIGHT NOW.
IT'S PROBABLY GOING TO BE WRAPPING UP PRETTY QUICK AND A LOT OF THINGS HAVE ALREADY HAPPENED THERE. SO THIS CONVERSATION MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIT LATE FOR THIS SESSION, BUT I THINK THAT THE THE POWER OF A COLLECTIVE VOICE CAN HELP THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT. CONTRARY TO WHAT SOME PEOPLE MIGHT BELIEVE, OUR BOARD IS VERY DIVERSE.
I THINK OUR BOARD IS ABOUT AS DIVERSE AS THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS, WHICH I THINK IS A REALLY GOOD THING.
I HAVE ENJOYED MANY CONVERSATIONS WITH SOMEBODY ON THIS BOARD WHO BELIEVES A LOT DIFFERENTLY THAN I DO, AND I THINK WE ARE HAVING GOOD CONVERSATIONS WHERE WE CAN SEE EACH OTHER'S POINT OF VIEW.
WE MIGHT NOT CHANGE EACH OTHER'S POINT OF VIEW, BUT WE CAN SEE WHERE THE OTHER PERSON IS COMING FROM. AND I THINK THAT'S A GOOD THING.
WITHOUT CALLING EACH OTHER NAMES.
SO WHAT I WOULD LIKE AND WHAT MY GOAL FOR PUTTING THIS ON THE AGENDA WAS, IS I WANT US TO COME UP WITH WHAT IS IT THAT WE CAN ALL AGREE ON? THAT WHEN A BILL IS UP IN THE LEGISLATURE.
WHAT CAN WE AGREE ON THAT WE CAN BE IN SUPPORT OF OR AGAINST? BECAUSE WHEN BILLS ARE PASSED AND WHEN AMENDMENTS ARE MADE AND THINGS ARE GOING THROUGH THE LEGISLATURE, WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR AN OPEN PUBLIC MEETING FOR US ALL TO TAKE A VOTE ON HOW, IF WE SHOULD REGISTER THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD APPROVES OF THIS OR OR IS AGAINST THIS.
SO ONE OF THE ATTACHMENTS THAT I GAVE YOU OR THAT I HAVE ON THERE.
LET ME MAKE SURE I'M SAYING THIS CORRECTLY.
[00:50:01]
SO EACH YEAR WAS TO THE WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION, WHICH IS A LOBBYING GROUP FOR SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS.THEY HAVE ANY SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTOR IN THE STATE CAN VOTE ON POSITIONS AND PRIORITIES.
I CAN DO IT. STEVE AND PEGGY WILL DO IT THIS YEAR.
NOT ALL SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS DO, BUT WE ALL CAN.
AND THAT HAPPENS IN LIKE AUGUST, SEPTEMBER TIMEFRAME.
THEN WHAT WAS DOES IS THEY COLLATE ALL OF THOSE VOTES AND WHICHEVER ONES GET THE MOST VOTES. THOSE TOP 15, ABOUT 15 ARE THE HIGH PRIORITY TOPICS FOR WAS THE THE LOBBYING GROUP. THE TOP THREE OF THOSE ARE WHAT THEY ENCOURAGE THE SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS TO TALK TO THEIR LOCAL LEGISLATORS LIKE REPRESENTATIVE SHOEMAKER, REPRESENTATIVE RUL AND SENATOR SEVCIK, WHICH PEGGY AND I DID A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, AND KUNG AND JAZZIE WE ALL DID. THAT'S WHAT THEY ENCOURAGE US TO LOBBY FOR.
AND THIS YEAR IT WAS PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODEL FUNDING.
IT WAS STABILIZATION FUNDING, AND IT WAS ALSO TRANSPORTATION.
SO I'M THINKING OF THOSE TOP 15.
I DOUBT WE'RE GOING TO AGREE TO SAY LIKE, OH, YEAH, ANY OF THE TOP 15.
WE'RE IN FAVOR OF ALL OF THEM.
I DON'T THINK SO. BUT IS THERE ONE? IS THERE ONE TOPIC THAT WE CAN BE IN FAVOR OF? I WOULD SUGGEST PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODEL FUNDING.
THE WAY THAT THE PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODEL FUNDING GOES RIGHT NOW IS THE STATE GIVES US THE LARGEST PORTION OF OUR FUNDING.
IT'S ABOUT 80 TO 85%, AND THAT'S UNDERFUNDED.
YOU CAN'T RUN A SCHOOL DISTRICT ON THE MONEY THAT THEY GIVE US.
THERE ARE SOME DISTRICTS AROUND THE STATE WHERE PASSING A LEVY IS EASY.
NO PROBLEM. THE PROPERTY VALUES ARE SO HIGH THEY ONLY HAVE TO ASK FOR A FEW PENNIES FOR EVERY THOUSAND OR FOR WHATEVER REASON THE SCHOOL DISTRICT JUST ALWAYS APPROVES THEM.
SO FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT CAN'T PASS A LEVY QUITE AS READILY, OR MAYBE THEIR PROPERTY VALUES AREN'T AS HIGH, IT'S MORE DIFFICULT.
YOU MIGHT HAVE TO ASK FOR A LOWER AMOUNT, ETC.
AND SO THE KIDS IN THOSE DISTRICTS GET LESS FUNDING THAN THOSE SCHOOL DISTRICTS WHERE PASSING THE LEVY IS NO PROBLEM.
IF WE WERE TO CHANGE PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODEL.
SO THAT AND I'M BEING REALLY LONG WINDED.
I'M SORRY. IF WE WERE TO CHANGE PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODELS SO THAT MORE FUNDING WOULD COME FROM THE STATE AND THERE WOULD BE LESS RELIANCE ON THE LOCAL LEVY.
IT WOULD BE A SLIGHT DIFFERENCE FOR FERNDALE.
IT'S NOT LIKE IT WOULD BE A HUGE WINDFALL, BUT I THINK FOR THE STATE AS A WHOLE AND FOR KIDS AS A WHOLE, YOU WOULDN'T HAVE AS MUCH OF A BENEFIT FOR, SAY, A MERCER ISLAND KID VERSUS AN OMAK KID.
SO THAT'S WHAT I WOULD THINK. LIKE THAT'S ONE THING HOPEFULLY WE CAN AGREE ON.
AND IF YOU THINK ABSOLUTELY NOT, THEN GIVE ME ANOTHER ONE.
BECAUSE I DO THINK WE SHOULD TALK TO OUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES ON BEHALF OF OUR COMMUNITY MORE OFTEN AND MORE EFFICIENTLY.
FOR THE BENEFIT OF PARTICULARLY STEVE.
PEGGY. SHARE A LITTLE BIT AS FAR AS THE PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODEL.
AND I KNOW THIS. CATCHING YOU OFF THE CUFF.
I THINK YOU'RE FAMILIAR ENOUGH WITH IT THAT YOU CAN.
KIND OF EXPLAIN HOW THAT WORKS.
YEAH. SO THE STATE SEVERAL YEARS AGO, WHEN THEY RETOOLED THE WAY THEY FUNDED PUBLIC SCHOOLS, THEY TOOK BASICALLY A SURVEY OF ALL THE DISTRICTS IN THE STATE AND FIGURED OUT HOW MANY FTE FULL TIME EQUIVALENTS OF EACH POSITION, EACH TYPE OF POSITION THEY HAD CURRENTLY IN THE IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
SO THEY HAD TWO PRINCIPALS AND 12 TEACHERS AND TWO CUSTODIANS, AND THEY CAME UP WITH A RATIO OF THE CURRENT FUNDING, THE CURRENT STAFFING LEVELS BASED ON HOW MANY STUDENTS WERE IN EACH SCHOOL, AND THEY SET LEVELS 400, THE ELEMENTARY AND 1000 THE SECONDARY.
THEY CAME UP WITH THE STANDARD, WHAT THEY CALLED THE PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODEL.
SO FOR EVERY 400 STUDENTS, THAT GENERATES A CERTAIN PERCENT OF EACH TYPE OF STAFF MEMBER, WHETHER IT BE CUSTODIAN OR WHETHER IT BE A PRINCIPAL OR A TEACHER.
AND THEN THEY BASICALLY TOOK THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT THEY WERE SPENDING AND PUT IT INTO THAT FORMULA. AND THAT'S BASICALLY THE MODEL.
[00:55:02]
THAT'S THE PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL FUNDING MODEL AT THIS POINT.TEN YEARS OR SO BEFORE THAT, THERE WAS A STUDY CALLED THE PICA STUDY THAT ACTUALLY DID SOME ANALYSIS OF WHAT THE FUNDING LEVEL SHOULD BE BASED ON THE ON THE STAFFING LEVELS THAT ACTUALLY SHOULD BE IN PLACE.
BUT THAT WAS UNAFFORDABLE FROM THE FROM THE STATE FROM A FINANCIAL STANDPOINT.
SO IT KIND OF WENT TO THE FUNDING MODEL, BUT THEY DIDN'T INCREASE THE FUNDING.
SO BASICALLY WE ARE AT THE POINT NOW WHERE THEY'RE SAYING, HEY, WE'VE GOT A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY AT THE STATE LEVEL.
WE SHOULD START MAKING A STEP TOWARDS ADVANCE TOWARDS ACTUALLY FUNDING WHAT THE MODEL SHOULD BE VERSUS WHAT THE MODEL WAS AT THE TIME THAT THEY DID THE MATH.
SO I DON'T KNOW IF THAT ANSWERS THE QUESTION OR NOT, BUT.
AND THE THING IS, IS WITH THE LEGISLATURE, IT'S NOT GOING TO BE LIKE OVERNIGHT.
THEY'LL BE LIKE, WE'LL GO FROM WHAT YOU'RE FUNDED NOW TO.
NO PROBLEM. IT'S NOT GOING TO BE LIKE THAT.
AND IN PARTICULAR, THIS YEAR IT WAS TO FUND THE PORTION THAT WOULD BE FOR NURSES, COUNSELORS, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL HEALTH AND PHYSICAL HEALTH.
THERE'S ALSO PARENT INTERVENTION.
I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THE TITLE OF IT, PARENT INTERVENTION, BUT THEY WERE OUR COMMUNITY SERVICE COORDINATORS.
I GOT THE TITLE WRONG, I'M SURE, BUT THEY WOULD HELP STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES FIND RESOURCES IN THE COMMUNITY, THAT SORT OF THING.
SO THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE SAYING.
WE WANT TO INCREASE THE FUNDING THIS YEAR ON.
ACTUALLY, IT'S PASSED THE HOUSE AND IT HAD A HEARING THIS AFTERNOON, WHICH I DIDN'T FOLLOW, BUT. WELL, LOOK LATER.
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? DO WE SUPPORT PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODEL? DO WE NOT? I CERTAINLY THINK BASED ON WHAT I KNOW OF IT AT THIS POINT, THAT IT MAKES SENSE BECAUSE I CAN'T REMEMBER THE STATISTICS, BUT WHAT THEY HAD AS FAR AS COUNSELORS AND THAT WAS THEY HAVE ONE PSYCHOLOGIST FOR EVERY MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILD IN THE STATE.
AND IT WAS IT DIDN'T HAVE THE NUMBERS NOT TO SAY THAT WE WOULD HAVE A PSYCHOLOGIST, BUT WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE FOR THE ENTIRE STATE.
SO. SO OTHER QUESTIONS FOR MELINDA REGARDING THAT OR THOUGHTS.
AND ONE THING JUST TO CLARIFY, AS FAR AS THE THE SCHOOL BOARD HAS THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY IN SEPTEMBER AND ACTUALLY EACH DISTRICT HAS A VOTE BASED ON THEIR STUDENT POPULATION. SO IT IS A WEIGHTED VOTE AND ONE ONE BOARD MEMBER IS DESIGNATED OR REGISTERED AS. BUT WE CAN'T ALL VOTE.
AT LEAST WE CAN VOTE VIA OUR REPRESENTATIVE TO THAT ASSEMBLY.
THE FERNDALE GETS A NUMBER OF VOTES BASED ON OUR STUDENT POPULATION.
AND THEN THEY DO PUT THAT ALL TOGETHER AND THERE'S A LARGE.
BOOK THAT COMES OUT. THERE ARE SOME OF THE LEGISLATIVE POSITIONS THAT ARE WHAT THEY CALL STANDING ONES THAT HAVE COME TO THE ASSEMBLY.
MEMORY SERVES ME RIGHT THREE TIMES IN A ROW AND BEEN PASSED EACH TIME.
SO THEN THEY BECOME A STANDING POSITION.
THERE ARE OTHERS THAT ARE ONES THAT ARE BROUGHT UP EVERY YEAR OR NEW ONES THAT ARE BROUGHT UP EVERY YEAR.
AND THEY CAN BE RELATED TO FUNDING OR.
DIFFERENT. MERITS OF DIFFERENT EDUCATIONAL.
HANDLING OF DIFFERENT SITUATIONS.
BUT ALL THOSE DO GET PRIORITIZED IN A LIST AND.
ONE OF THE LINKS THAT WAS GIVEN THERE WAS THE PRIORITIES, AND IT KIND OF GIVES THE OVERARCHING LIKE IMPROVED HEALTH AND SAFETY FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF, ETC..
AND THEN THE OTHER ONE WAS THE LEGISLATIVE POSITIONS AT A GLANCE.
AND THAT'S WHERE IT WILL TAKE.
HERE ARE THE BILLS THAT FOLLOW UNDER THIS PRIORITY.
SO ANY BILLS THAT WOULD FOLLOW A FALL UNDER A PRIORITY THAT WE AGREED ON WOULD BE ONES THAT. JUST LIKE ANY ANY PERSON IN WASHINGTON STATE CAN DO WHERE THEY CAN GO IN AND THEY CAN SIGN PRO OR CON ON A BILL.
I WOULD BE DOING IT ON BEHALF OF THE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD, WHICH IS THAT WHOLE POWER AND VOICES TYPE OF THING.
[01:00:02]
I'M A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP OF US SO THAT WE HAVE. MORE POWER AND VOICES.I GUESS MY WELL, THAT IS ALLOWED.
I GUESS MY UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THIS WORKS, THIS IS HOW I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WORKED ANYWAY, WAS THAT ESSENTIALLY THE BOARD COULD DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO GO VOTE AND DECIDE WHETHER THEY WANTED TO SUPPORT IT OR NOT AND THEN GO WITH WHAT THE MAJORITY SAYS.
I PERSONALLY DON'T I'M NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THIS BILL BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW THAT THE NEED HAS BEEN QUANTIFIED.
YOU KNOW HOW LONG INTO THE FUTURE WHAT IF THE NEEDS CHANGE? ARE WE STILL GOING TO BE TIED TO THIS? YOU KNOW, IF OUR NEEDS GO DOWN AS A RESULT OF MOVING PAST THIS COVERED TIME FRAME AND PEOPLE RESERVE, YOU KNOW, RESUMING SOME KIND OF NORMALCY IN THEIR LIVES, ARE WE GOING TO HAVE THE NEED FOR THAT? MANY COUNSELORS, THINGS LIKE THAT? SO THOSE ARE THE AREAS THAT I HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT.
AND SO I'M NOT 100% COMMITTED TO IT.
I WAS MORE INTERESTED IN THE TRANSPORTATION BILL BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE, YOU KNOW, LISTENING TO WHAT SOME OF THE TRANSPORTATION ISSUES WERE.
SO, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU WERE ASKING WHICH OF THEIR TOP BILLS WERE YOU INTERESTED IN, THAT WAS THE ONE THAT ACTUALLY GOT ME IN.
I WANTED MORE INFORMATION ON THAT.
I'M NOT AS KEEN ON THIS PARTICULAR ONE.
SO BUT THE TRANSPORTATION BILL THAT PEGGY IS TALKING ABOUT IS THERE'S BEEN UNDERFUNDING FOR YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS.
WE'RE ALWAYS IN THE RED IN OUR TRANSPORTATION FUND, AND THIS ONE WOULD AT LEAST REIMBURSE SCHOOL DISTRICTS THE ACTUAL COSTS TO GET SPECIAL POPULATIONS LIKE HOMELESS FOSTER STUDENTS, SPECIAL EDUCATION TO TRANSPORT THEM, WHICH I'M NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANS MONEY WISE TO FERNDALE, BUT IT WOULD MEAN MORE THAN WE GET NOW.
WHAT DO YOU THINK, STEVE? I HAVE A TENDENCY.
WE TALKED BEFORE ABOUT THE TRANSPORTATION BILL.
MORE SO THAN. SO I WOULD SUPPORT THAT AS WELL.
THERE'S SOMETHING I NEED TO PERSONALLY, I THINK I NEED TO STUDY A LITTLE BIT MORE TO UNDERSTAND IT BETTER BEFORE I MAKE A DECISION ON WHETHER I SUPPORT IT OR NOT.
IT'S JUST MY OPINION. I LIKE THAT WE'RE STARTING THE CONVERSATION.
I AM PERFECTLY FINE WITH TRANSPORTATION TO BE THE PRIORITY THIS YEAR AND SIGNING IN PRO ON THAT ONE. IF IT HASN'T PASSED ALREADY, I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S PASSED ALREADY.
BUT THEN THROUGHOUT THIS YEAR AND OVER THE SUMMER AND WHEN WE DO LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE IN THE FALL, MAYBE THEN WHEN WE ALL HAVE A CHANCE TO LOOK AT WHAT THE PRIORITIES ARE AND WHAT BILLS MIGHT BE COMING UP, THEN WE CAN FIND SOMETHING FOR NEXT YEAR.
SO FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, WE CAN HAVE FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD TAKING A POSITION ON THINGS THAT MATTER TO US AS A COLLECTIVE.
AND I THINK WITH THAT ONE THING WE MAY WANT TO DO IN REGARDS TO IT IS WORK WITH THAT.
I MEAN, PART OF IT YOU AND I HAVE SEEN THAT PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODEL.
AND YES, THE CHANGES AS FAR AS COVID AND THINGS ARE GOING TO CHANGE THE NEED FOR COUNSELORS. BUT WHERE THEY'RE AT RIGHT NOW IS AT SUCH A MINIMAL LEVEL.
THIS JUST BRINGS IT UP TO WHAT ACTUALLY WE WOULD CONSIDER NORMAL NEEDS JUST WITHOUT COVID. AND SO PART OF IT IS THAT HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE.
AND THAT'S ONE THAT'S BEEN ON THERE FOR.
AS LONG AS I'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD.
AS LONG AS A PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODEL, PROBABLY, YEAH.
AND SO I THINK THAT THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE COULD WORK ON EDUCATING OURSELVES MORE SO IN IT, AS WELL AS THE NEW BOARD MEMBERS THAT WE'RE READY AND UNDERSTAND IT BETTER WHEN IT COMES OUT AND EVEN IF THAT INVOLVES IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA.
UM, MEETING WITH THE LEGISLATORS, GETTING THEIR INPUT AND THEIR SO THAT THEY UNDERSTAND A LITTLE BIT BETTER HOW IT'S WORKING AND JUST BE MORE PROACTIVE ALL THE WAY AROUND.
PEGGY, I KNOW, HAD ASKED A LOT OF QUESTIONS.
WELL, THIS IS HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST ON THE STATE LEVEL.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR FERNDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT ITSELF AND MAYBE WORKING ON THOSE? SO WE REALLY KNOW LIKE WHAT DOES IT WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME OR FOR US TYPE OF THING AND ALSO WHAT'S IN IT FOR THE STATE? HOW DOES IT AFFECT THE WHOLE THING? BUT WE CAN WE CAN GET THERE, YOU KNOW, WE'LL GET THERE.
BUT RIGHT NOW, TRANSPORTATION.
THANK YOU, MELINDA, AND THANK YOU FOR CONTINUING TO BRING THOSE THINGS TO US.
[01:05:04]
AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS AS THERE'S A.I DON'T WANT TO SAY WEALTH BECAUSE THAT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THE RIGHT TERM.
BUT THERE IS A PLETHORA OF INFORMATION AS FAR AS ALL THE DIFFERENT POSITIONS THAT AFFECT EDUCATION OUT THERE THAT ARE GOING THROUGH THE LEGISLATURE.
AND AS MELINDA SAYS, THOSE THINGS MOVE FAST AND CHANGE QUICKLY.
SO I KNOW YEARS AGO THE FORESTRY FUNDING BILL THAT LEANN HAD WORKED ON SUPPORTING, ALONG WITH SOME OF THE DIRECTORS FROM UP IN MOUNT BAKER, IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS DYING, A LONG TERM MATERNAL DEATH AND THEN BOOM, ALL OF A SUDDEN IT GOT BROUGHT BACK UP THROUGH THE HELP OF SENATOR ERICKSON AND A FEW OTHERS AND ENDED UP PASSING, WHICH WAS A GOOD THING. SO IT'S A VERY DYNAMIC.
[5. FOCUS ON DISTRICT OPERATIONS]
ITEM 5.01 IS A REPORT ON THE CAPITAL BOND PROJECT.AND FOR THAT, I WILL TURN THINGS OVER TO MARK.
THANK YOU. SO IF YOU'VE HAD A CHANCE TO DRIVE DOWN VISTA OR I DON'T KNOW THE NAME OF THE ROAD OVER THERE BY ITALIANS.
IT'S THE EITHER SIDE OF THE SCHOOL.
GRIFFIN TOWN. GRIFFIN TOWN PARK.
URBAN TOWN PARK. WHICH I LOVE THAT PARK.
SO ANYWAY, IF YOU DRIVEN DOWN EITHER VISTA OR YOU'VE SEEN THE BIG ORANGE BUILDING, THAT'S IT'S ORANGE IS GOOD.
THAT'S THE WEATHER PROTECTION FOR THE BUILDING.
IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS STRIPES ON IT.
THAT'S THE. THEY'RE GETTING READY TO PUT THE SIDING ON AROUND THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BUILDING. THEY'VE ACTUALLY BEEN INSTALLING THE BLOCK WALL AT THE BOTTOM BOTTOM PART OF THE BUILDING. ALL OF THE CONCRETE SLABS ARE POURED INSIDE OF THE ATHLETIC WING COMMONS AND THE ACADEMIC WING, INCLUDING THE MECHANICAL MEZZANINE.
MECHANICAL RUFFIN IS PROGRESSING REALLY QUITE QUICKLY AND THEY ARE STARTING DRYWALL ACTUALLY THIS WEEK, WHICH IS A PRETTY BIG STEP IN THE IN THE PROJECT.
SO THINGS ARE MOVING ALONG, THE TEAMS WORKING TOGETHER PRETTY WELL.
SO SO FAR WE'RE ON TIME, WE'RE ON BUDGET AND THINGS ARE COMING TOGETHER AS AS COMMITTED IN THE IN THE BOND.
DO WE HAVE ANOTHER OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE REPORT COMING UP ANYTIME SOON? I BELIEVE NEXT MONTH.
LOOKING AT IT FOR THE NOD, YEP.
THEY HAD THEIR MEETING LAST WEEK.
WELL, THEY GOT A REPORT ON CHANGE ORDERS AND WENT THROUGH THE FINANCIALS IN GREAT DETAIL AS THEY NORMALLY DO.
STEVE, WAS THERE THIS TIME AS THE OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVE AS OPPOSED TO UNOFFICIAL WITH HE AND PEGGY LAST MONTH? SO IF YOU'VE GOT ANY THING TO ADD AS A I JUST WOULD SAY IT WAS IT WAS A GOOD CONVERSATION AROUND HOW THINGS ARE PROGRESSING.
IT LOOKS LIKE THINGS ARE BEING THAT ON TIME THINGS ARE BEING.
THAT HAS BEEN WELL THOUGHT OUT.
UM, IT LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE VERY ENGAGED IN.
AND ONE OF MY CONCERNS WAS THE COMMISSIONING OF THE NEW EQUIPMENT.
TO BE VERY ENGAGED IN PROVIDING THE PRODUCT THAT'S GOT A LOT OF RELIABILITY TO IT.
AND SO, YEAH, OVERALL, IT SEEMED.
PRETTY FUN. I THINK ONE OF THE ONE OF THE BRIGHT SPOTS, TOO, IF ANYBODY WAS HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FURNITURE FAIR THAT WE HAD AT THE AT THE AUDITORIUM, FURNITURE WENT OUT TO BID, CAME BACK UNDER BUDGET SIGNIFICANTLY.
AND THE ONE OF THE BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE MEMBERS WHO ACTUALLY DOES THAT SORT OF THING PROFESSIONALLY FOR WESTERN SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE BEST FURNITURE PACKAGE SHE'S SEEN IN QUITE A LONG TIME.
SO THAT WAS REALLY ENCOURAGING.
IT'S ALL VERY SERVICEABLE, VERY DURABLE FURNITURE.
SO GOOD NEWS TO REPORT AT THIS POINT.
ANY QUESTIONS FOR MARK? AND. CNN.
[01:10:03]
WE'LL GO AHEAD AND MOVE ON TO ITEM 5.02, WHICH IS THE UPDATE ON THE SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH. AND AGAIN, I WILL TURN THINGS OVER TO MARK, AND I AM GOING TO IMMEDIATELY TURN THIS OVER TO SELENA RODRIGUEZ.YOU CAN HEAR ME OKAY? I CAN SEE.
SO MOSTLY JUST AN UPDATE TO YOU ALL.
I'VE BEEN COMMUNICATING WITH YOU.
I'VE BEEN COMMUNICATING WITH YOU THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS.
OUR SUPERINTENDENT POSITION REMAINS OPEN THROUGH THE END OF THIS WEEK.
LAST WEEK, YOU SHOULD. YOU SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED YOUR RESULTS FROM THE SURVEY THAT CLOSED ON FRIDAY.
I BELIEVE I SENT THOSE OUT TO YOU FRIDAY.
YOU HAVE YOU HAD ABOUT 340 THE SURVEY RESPONSES.
SO IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE, REVIEW THOSE.
THAT'S FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION THROUGH THE PROCESS.
NEXT. COMING UP, LIKE I SAID, THE POSITION CLOSES AT THE END OF THIS WEEK.
FROM THERE, NORTHWEST LEADERSHIP ASSOCIATES WILL THEN GATHER ALL OF THE APPLICATION MATERIALS. THOSE WILL COME TO ME AND THEN I WILL PUT THOSE ALL TOGETHER FOR YOU.
JUST LIKE ANY OF OUR OTHER HIRING PROCESSES, ALL THOSE MATERIALS WILL BE REVIEWED DURING REGULAR WORK HOURS.
AND SO WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE IS A SINGLE ONE OR TWO BINDERS OF ALL OF THE APPLICATION MATERIALS TOGETHER.
THOSE WILL BE HELD IN A SECURE LOCATION IN OUR OFFICE FOR YOU ALL TO COME IN AND REVIEW WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE.
I WOULD SAY GIVE YOURSELF A COUPLE OF HOURS TO REVIEW THOSE AND I WILL WORK WITH ALL OF YOU PROBABLY THROUGH KEVIN, IF THAT'S OKAY TO SCHEDULE THOSE TIMES.
WHAT AM I MISSING? THAT I RECOMMEND DOING THAT BEFORE YOUR MARCH 8TH MEETING.
SO MARCH 8TH, IF YOU RECALL, IS WHEN YOU WILL BE MEETING WITH NORTHWEST LEADERSHIP ASSOCIATES TO REVIEW ONCE AGAIN AND THEN SELECT YOUR YOUR SEMIFINALISTS.
AND SO I'M NOT SURE IF WE HAVE DETERMINED A A TIME FOR THAT.
NO, WE WE NEED TO DISCUSS THAT TONIGHT AS FAR AS WHAT TIME WE WANT TO MEET ON THE EIGHTH. AND YOU GUYS ARE ALREADY SET UP AS FAR AS LOCATION.
IT'S JUST A MATTER OF WE'VE GOT THE CONFERENCE ROOM AT THE DISTRICT OFFICE BOOKED OUT FROM 330.
SO ANY TIME 330 OR AFTER, DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU ALL CAN MAKE IT.
SO. SO ESSENTIALLY AT THAT MEETING WILL BE REVIEWING THE APPLICATIONS THAT HAVE COME IN AND SELECTING OUR FINALISTS FOR THE INTERVIEW PROCESS.
AND SO DEPENDENT ON HOW MANY APPLICATIONS WE HAVE AND WHAT THE DISCUSSION ASSOCIATED WITH THOSE WILL DETERMINE THE LENGTH OF THAT MEETING.
AND IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT WE MAY WANT TO START EARLIER IN THE AFTERNOON IF THAT WORKS.
THAT WILL BE AN EXECUTIVE SESSION MEETING BECAUSE IT DEALS WITH PERSONNEL.
SO WASN'T SURE WHAT THE CONSENSUS OF THE BOARD WAS.
AS FAR AS A STARTING TIME THOUGHT PROCESS BEING, THE EARLIER WE START, THE HOPEFULLY THE LESS LATE IT GOES FOR THOSE THAT HAVE TO WORK THE NEXT DAY AND DEPENDENT ON ONCE WE HAVE DETERMINED OUR STARTING TIME, WE CAN DETERMINE IF WE NEED TO BRING IN DINNER OR WHAT HAVE YOU THAT WAY.
SO I KNOW I'VE ALREADY HEARD BECAUSE MELINDA AND I HAD A BIT OF A CONVERSATION ABOUT IT.
I THINK HER SCHEDULE IS FAIRLY OPEN, MINDS OPEN ANY TIME AFTER NOON AS FAR AS STARTING.
OKAY. WHAT'S YOUR MARKET THE TUESDAY? ALL RIGHT? YEAH. YEAH.
SO THAT'S A SCHEDULED WORK DAY FOR MYSELF.
SO DO WE LOOK AT STARTING AT FOUR OR 430? HOW GOOD. YEAH.
WE CAN DOUBLE CHECK WITH HER AND SEE WHAT HER AVAILABILITY IS, BUT AT LEAST WE COULD TENTATIVELY SET AT THIS POINT AND MAKE SURE THAT WORKS WITH HER.
USUALLY SHE'S FAIRLY FLEXIBLE, BUT AGAIN NEEDING TO CHECK.
[01:15:04]
WE'LL REACH OUT TO HER TOMORROW AND CONFIRM.NO. WELL, WE THINK YOU'RE DICTATING.
I THINK WE'RE ALL PRETTY FLEXIBLE.
SO IT'S UP TO YOU, WHATEVER YOU'RE GOOD TO.
WELL, WHY DON'T WE PLAN, THEN? WHY DON'T WE? WE'LL REACH OUT TO JESSE, AND THEN MARK AND I WILL TOUCH BASE, AND THEN WE'LL SEND OUT A NOTE TO EVERYBODY, LETTING YOU KNOW TIME.
AND WE'LL GET THE MEETING ANNOUNCED THAT.
SO IT CLOSES ON FRIDAY, CORRECT? AND THEN WE HAVE NEXT WEEK AND THEN THE TUESDAY.
WHEN WILL THE. WILL THE BINDERS BE READY ON MONDAY OR WHAT DAY DO YOU ASSUME EVERYTHING WILL BE READY FOR US TO START? I WOULD SAY TO BE SAFE.
MM HMM. AND THEN I KNOW YOU ALL WORK FULL TIME DAY JOBS, SO I CAN BE PRETTY FLEXIBLE MYSELF IF WE NEED TO EXTEND IT SOMETIME AFTER REGULAR HOURS, I'M WELCOME OR I'M OPEN TO STAYING IN.
SO JUST KEEP IN MIND, NEXT WEEK WE'LL BE FOR REVIEWING APPLICATION MATERIALS AND YOU SHOULD RECEIVE SOME COMMUNICATIONS FROM ME SOON.
IN FRONT OF YOU, YOU HAVE THE ALTERNATIVE SCHEDULE FOR THE SEMIFINALS INTERVIEWS.
THAT IS JUST AS YOU KNOW, I'VE I'VE DONE THIS PROCESS WITH THE PREVIOUS DISTRICT, ALSO WITH NORTHWEST LEADERSHIP.
SO THAT IS JUST WHAT I WORKED WITH IN MY PREVIOUS DISTRICT.
SO THAT IS WHAT WAS RECOMMENDED WITH NORTHWEST LEADERSHIPS.
ANY QUESTIONS? COMMENTS. IT'S MY BIRTHDAY THAT DAY.
SO CAN WE HAVE CAKE? NO. DID YOU JUST WANT EVERYBODY TO KNOW HOW I'M SPENDING MY BIRTHDAY THIS YEAR? WELL, WHO? OKAY.
DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THAT? AND THEN JUST A REMINDER OF THE PROCESS.
SO AT THE END OF THAT DAY, THE BOARD WILL GO INTO AN EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DELIBERATE AND THEN SELECT THREE FINALISTS FROM THERE.
ON MY END, WE WILL DRAFT ANNOUNCEMENTS AND SEND THOSE OUT TO OUR COMMUNITY AND THE MEDIA IMMEDIATELY. THE TURNAROUND IS A VERY QUICK, I BELIEVE THE FIRST FINALIST VISIT IS EITHER THAT MONDAY OR TUESDAY WITH, I BELIEVE, A DAY IN BETWEEN FOR A BREAK.
I BELIEVE IT'S TUESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY.
AND THEN YOU HAVE THE 25TH, WHICH IS IT, FRIDAY? THE 25TH IS WILL BE ANOTHER SHORT MEETING, AND THAT'S WHERE THE BOARD OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES THEIR SELECTION.
AND WE HAD MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY WOULD BE FINAL INTERVIEWS AND THEN THE THURSDAY AND THEN FRIDAY. FIVE FINAL DECISION AND THEN YES FOR THE FINAL IS JUST AN IDEA FOR YOU ALL TO KNOW WHAT THEIR DAY LOOKS LIKE THAT DAY.
I BELIEVE THEY MEET WITH KEVIN AS A SHORT WELCOME.
WE WILL ALL WORK WITH YOU TO DETERMINE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS AND PROGRAMS THEY SHOULD VISIT, THOUGH.
THEY'LL VISIT WITH THOSE AND AS WELL AS DIFFERENT EMPLOYEE GROUPS.
SO ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEE GROUPS WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET WITH EACH OF THE CANDIDATES AS WELL AS ASK QUESTIONS AND THEN PROVIDE FEEDBACK TO YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. THERE WILL BE A COMMUNITY FORUM AS WELL IN THE EVENINGS.
WITH THOSE EMPLOYEE GROUPS AND SUCH.
IT'S NOT THE SAME PEOPLE AT EACH ONE.
I MEAN, SOMEBODY COULD GO TO ALL OF THEM IF THEY WANTED TO, BUT IF SOMEBODY COULD ONLY MAKE IT TO ONE, THAT'S FINE.
YEAH. AND THAT'S BASED OFF OF SCHEDULES.
DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME? SO FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS, YOU'LL HEAR A LOT FROM ME.
OH YEAH. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP ON SELENA'S EMAILS AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, SHE'S VERY GOOD ABOUT GETTING BACK AND ANSWERING THOSE.
MARK IN FROM NORTHWEST LEADERSHIP ASSOCIATES.
[01:20:02]
AND HE HAD TALKED TO ME ABOUT THE POTENTIAL OF THE FINAL INTERVIEWS AND THE COMMUNITY PORTION OF THAT.HE HAD SUGGESTED OR HE HAD INDICATED THAT.
THAT SOME DISTRICTS, BECAUSE OF COVID CONSTRAINTS AND HOW THEIR DISTRICTS WERE DOING IT, POTENTIALLY DOING A LOTTERY SYSTEM FOR THE PUBLIC COMING INTO IT.
PART OF THAT WAS JUST LIMITATIONS AS FAR AS SIZE OF GROUP THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO HANDLE.
AND WE THINK WE'VE GOT IT MANAGED.
WE'VE GOT A PLAN THAT WE CAN ACCOMMODATE WHAT COMMUNITY MEMBERS WANT TO COME.
SO I TOLD HIM THAT I THOUGHT IT WAS BEST THAT WE NOT GO THAT ROUTE.
AND IF THERE'S ANY IF THE BOARD THINKS DIFFERENTLY, I CAN CERTAINLY CHANGE THAT.
BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS BEST TO ALLOW WHOEVER WANTED TO COME TO COME AS OPPOSED TO SOME SORT OF LOTTERY WHERE IT'S ONLY CERTAIN PEOPLE OR WHAT HAVE YOU.
WILL THOSE BE BROADCAST LIVE? MY QUESTION IS, IS IT SAFE TO ASSUME IT'LL BE IN PERSON THAT THAT WAS MY INTENTION, THAT WE WOULD DO IT IN PERSON, IN A LARGER VENUE SO THAT WE COULD BE DISTANCE AND WHAT HAVE YOU. AND I SEE I'LL GO OUT ON A LIMB, BUT I THINK WE SHOULD BE ABLE HOPEFULLY.
YEAH. SO THINGS MAY CHANGE THAT WAY TOO, BUT WE WOULD WE WOULD HOPEFULLY WOULD BE ABLE TO BROADCAST IT SO THAT ANYONE THAT WANTED TO AND WHO KNOWS, DEPENDING WE COULD TALK WITH THEM AS FAR AS THE POSSIBILITY THAT POTENTIALLY WE COULD EVEN TAKE QUESTIONS.
AGAIN, I'M GOING OUT ON THE TECHNOLOGY LIMB.
I DON'T WANT TO PROMISE THINGS THAT CAN'T BE DONE, BUT HOPEFULLY WE'D BE ABLE TO TAKE IF THERE WERE QUESTIONS FROM PEOPLE OUT IN THE AUDIENCE AT THE VERY END, WE PROBABLY COULD HAVE PEOPLE CHAT THEIR QUESTION THAT SOMEBODY AND JACKSON COULD READ IT OR SELENA COULD READ IT OR SOMETHING.
TYPICALLY WHAT WHAT MARK SAID IS THAT HE AND WAYNE WOULD BE REFEREEING OR HANDLING THE QUESTIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
PART OF IT IS COMMUNICATING TO THE COMMUNITY.
YEAH, BUT THEY'RE, THEY'RE PRETTY ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES AS FAR AS THAT.
SO I THINK HAVING QUESTIONS VIA CHAT IF WE HAVE IT THROUGH A ZOOM ACTUALLY THAT KIND OF WITH HOW QUESTIONS ARE SUBMITTED.
I KNOW LIKE IF YOU GO TO A TOWN HALL, SAY WITH ELECTEDS OR WHATEVER, THEY'LL HAVE PEOPLE WRITE THEIR QUESTION AND THEY'LL COLLECT THOSE QUESTIONS.
AND SO THEY DON'T HAVE THE SAME QUESTION BEING ASKED OVER AND OVER AGAIN TYPE OF THING IS DO WE DO THAT OR IS IT JUST ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO ASK QUESTION JUST STANDS UP AND WHATEVER THEY SAY, THEY SAY.
THE ONE TIME I DID IT, YOU'RE AN EXPERT.
YOU'VE DONE IT ONE MORE TIME THAN ME, THANKS TO MIKE BROWN.
AND SO BECAUSE THERE'S TWO OF THEM, THEY JUST KIND OF MOVED AROUND THE ROOM.
BUT WE CAN CERTAINLY DISCUSS OTHER OPTIONS.
IT SOUNDED LIKE FROM WHAT THEY TALKED TO ME.
AND AGAIN, THIS IS YET TO BE THE BOARD'S INPUT ON IT AS WELL, BUT IT SOUNDED MORE LIKE THEY WERE GOING TO BE CORRECT.
IT SOUNDED MORE LIKE THE INDEX CARDS.
WE COLLECT THE QUESTIONS AND THEN ASK.
SO THERE AREN'T REPEATED ONES, BUT THAT COULD CERTAINLY BE CLARIFIED.
BUT THAT WAS THE IMPRESSION I GOT FROM WHAT THEY WERE EXPLAINING TO ME.
I DO LIKE THE IDEA OF COLLECTING INDEX CARDS BECAUSE YOU CAN CHOOSE A QUESTION THAT KIND OF ENCOMPASSES A GROUP TYPE OF THING.
YOU CAN KIND OF GROUP THE QUESTIONS AND GET SIMILAR ONES INTO ONE BIG QUESTION.
I'LL WORK WITH THEM. YEAH, IT'S BEEN TWO YEARS SINCE MY LAST EXPERIENCE WITH THEM AND NOBODY WAS. WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS COMING, SO I'LL SEE WHAT THEY'VE DONE.
INCORPORATE VIRTUAL QUESTIONS AS WELL.
WELL, FIRST OF ALL, ANY OTHER QUESTIONS IN REGARDS TO THE SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH BEFORE I MOVE ON? DO WE.
WANT TO ASK HOW MANY APPLICANTS WE'VE HAD YET OR.
DO YOU KNOW IF THEY'RE ANYTHING? YEAH. AND THEY DIDN'T I DIDN'T HAPPEN TO ASK.
AND I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE NUMBERS ARE AT THIS POINT.
SO WITH THAT, THEN WE'LL MOVE ON TO ITEM 6.01, WHICH IS TO RECEIVE THE MONITORING
[6. FOCUS ON STUDENTS]
REPORT FOR RESULTS POLICY FIVE FIVE EARLY CHILDHOOD READINESS.AND FOR THAT, I WILL TURN THINGS OVER TO KELLY.
[01:25:01]
THERE WE GO. GOT IT.SO THANK YOU FOR FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY IN FRONT OF YOU.
YOU WILL SEE THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE A COPY OF THE RESULTS POLICY FOR OUR EYE.
AND THERE ALSO IS AN ELECTRONIC COPY THAT IS LINKED AND YOUR BOARD DOCS.
SO WE ARE JUST REALLY EXCITED.
THE FIRST COPY THAT YOU RECEIVED OF THIS WAS IN SEPTEMBER OF 2018 AND IT WAS THE INTERPRETATION REPORTS.
SO THIS IS ACTUALLY THE FIRST MONITORING REPORT YOU WILL HAVE EVER SEEN FOR THIS.
SO WE HAD A DRAFT VERSION IN FEBRUARY OF 2020 PRIOR TO US GOING INTO COVID.
AND AT THAT POINT WE SUSPENDED OUR MONITORING REPORTS.
SO WE ARE REALLY EXCITED TO GIVE THIS TO YOU FOR THE FIRST TIME.
WE HAVE QUITE A BIT OF EARLY CHILDHOOD DATA INCLUDED IN IT AND LOOK FORWARD TO EXPLAINING IT A LITTLE BIT MORE IN MARCH IN OUR MEETING TOGETHER.
CAN I ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS FOR YOU TONIGHT? OKAY. ENJOY.
ALTHOUGH A LOT OF VISUALS TO THAT MIGHT BE BECAUSE IT'S THE FIRST ONE TOO.
SO AS JUST A REMINDER, AND FOR EVERYONE THAT MAY NOT KNOW THE PROCESS OUT IN THE AUDIENCE, WHETHER LIVE OR VIRTUAL, WILL HAVE THE BOARD WILL HAVE THIS REPORT ON EARLY CHILDHOOD READINESS TO READ AND REVIEW OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT MONTH.
AND WE'LL DISCUSS IT AT OUR MARCH MEETING.
AND THEN FOLLOWING THAT DISCUSSION, IT WILL BE ON THE CONSENT AGENDA FOR APPROVAL AT THE APRIL MEETING. SO FOLLOWING THAT PROCESS LAST MONTH OR WE'LL MOVE ON TO ITEM 6.02, WHICH IS TO REVIEW THE MONITORING REPORT FOR RESULTS POLICY.
AND AS PER OUR STANDARD FORM, WE WERE GIVEN THIS REPORT LAST MONTH TO READ AND NOW WE BRING IT TO THE TABLE FOR DISCUSSION TONIGHT.
AND FOR THAT, FAYE, WERE THERE ANY OPENING REMARKS THAT YOU WANTED TO MAKE OR.
THERE YOU GO. JUST AS A REMINDER, MISSION IS REALLY ABOUT GETTING OUR STUDENTS TO GRADUATION. THAT'S THE MISSION OF ALL THAT.
SO FEEL FREE TO DISCUSS OR ASK QUESTIONS.
SO THE FLOOR IS OPEN FOR QUESTIONS FOR FAY IN REGARDS TO THIS REPORT.
SAY SO IN THE REPORT FOR 2021 AND 20 1920 AND 2020 2021, WE PRETTY MUCH HELD STEADY WITH GRADUATION RATES, BUT FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF COVID AND THEN ALSO LAST YEAR, THE BOARD APPROVED EMERGENCY WAIVERS FOR STUDENTS LACKING CREDITS.
AND I CAN'T REMEMBER HOW MANY CREDITS IT WAS AND I CAN'T REMEMBER HOW MANY STUDENTS IT AFFECTED. BUT I WAS.
WONDERING THAT ALSO IN THIS REPORT YOU TALKED ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF STUDENTS THAT HAD TAKEN A NO CREDIT BECAUSE OF COVID AND DISTANCE LEARNING AND THE DIFFICULTY OF FINISHING THEIR COURSEWORK AND NOT WANTING TO GET F'S WHICH ARE PERMANENT, WHICH MAKE THE STUDENT TAKE THE ENTIRE CLASS OVER VERSUS A NO CREDIT WHERE THEY CAN MAKE IT UP.
SO IN A NUTSHELL, IF THE STATE OR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT DECIDES NO MORE EMERGENCY WAIVERS.
THOSE STUDENTS THAT HAVE TAKEN A NO CREDIT IN THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND ARE LACKING OR AREN'T QUITE WHERE THEY NEED TO BE FOR CREDITS.
WHAT ARE WE DOING TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE KIDS AREN'T SURPRISED THAT YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH CREDITS TO GRADUATE? GREAT QUESTION, MELINDA.
THE FIRST THING IS, AS AS, YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE CHANGES WE MADE WAS TO MOVE AWAY FROM USING AN F, WHICH EXACTLY, YOU'RE RIGHT, MADE THEM STUDENTS HAVE TO RETAKE THE WHOLE CLASS. AND NO CREDIT ALLOWS A STUDENT TO DO WHAT THEY NEED TO DO TO FINISH THAT CLASS.
ONE OF THE THINGS THE HIGH SCHOOL DID AT THE END OF THIS SEMESTER WAS EXTEND GRADING FOR A TWO WEEK PERIOD SO THAT STUDENTS WOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH THE TEACHER.
RIGHT. AS IT'S FRESH TO WRAP UP.
AND I KNOW THAT A LOT OF STUDENTS TOOK THAT OPPORTUNITY, WHICH MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE.
[01:30:04]
AND I CAN GET YOU THE EXACT FIGURES FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL.THEY JUST, I BELIEVE, TURNED IN FRIDAY WAS THEIR KIND OF CUT OFF DAY.
JAZZIE NODDING. AND BUT THE OTHER THING IS, ALL OF OUR STUDENTS COMPLETE A HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND PLAN. SO NONE OF THIS IS A SURPRISE TO THEM.
THEY ARE TRACKING THAT ON AN ANNUAL BASIS, QUITE OFTEN MORE THAN ANNUALLY.
THEY IT IS AND WE USE AN ONLINE PROGRAM THAT THEY CAN SEE EXACTLY HOW MANY CREDITS THEY HAVE, WHAT CREDITS THEY NEED TO GRADUATE, WHAT CLASSES THEY NEED TO STILL TAKE.
AND IN ADDITION TO THAT, THEIR COUNSELORS ARE COMPLETELY ON TOP OF WHO NEEDS WHAT NEEDS TO AND WORKING WITH THE STUDENT TO CREATE THAT PLAN TO MAKE UP THE CREDIT SO THEY THEY ARE AWARE AS WELL AS IN EQUAL TIME.
THAT'S KIND OF WHERE THEY'RE FOCUSING ON THEIR HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND PLAN IS DURING THEIR TIME, THEIR ADVISORY PERIOD.
SO THEY THEY KNOW WHERE THEY'RE AT AND PEOPLE ARE CHECKING IN WITH THEM AS WELL AS OBVIOUSLY THE TEACHER OF THE COURSE THAT THEY'VE TAKEN THAT THEY HAVE ENOUGH CREDIT IN, THAT'S BEEN VERY CLEARLY COMMUNICATED TO THEM.
I WONDER IF AND I HAVE NOT PUT THIS REPORT TOGETHER BEFORE, I JUST READ IT IN FUTURE YEARS, COULD YOU HAVE LIKE THE PERCENTAGE OF FRESHMEN WHO ARE NOT ON TRACK, THE PERCENTAGE OF SOPHOMORES WHO ARE NOT ON TRACK SO THAT WE KIND OF KNOW IF THERE'S A.
HOPEFULLY WE'LL BE ABLE TO SEE THAT WE'RE MOVING AWAY FROM NOT CREDIT AND PEOPLE ARE ON TRACK. BUT THEN WE ALSO KIND OF CAN PREDICT OUT WHAT OUR GRADUATION RATES ARE GOING TO BE AND MAKE EFFORTS TO.
YEP, WE CAN ABSOLUTELY PULL THAT DATA.
ALONG THOSE SAME LINES, LOOKING AT THAT HUGE BUMP IN NEW CREDIT, BOTH AT THE JUNIOR HIGH AND THE HIGH SCHOOL.
YOU TALKED ABOUT AND MAYBE ANSWERED THE QUESTION, BUT I SUSPECT THAT THAT IS GOING TO IMPACT FUTURE GRADUATION RATES UNLESS IS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTING TO SEE IN THAT PARAGRAPH THAT FOLLOWED THAT THAT FEW STUDENTS TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY TO TO CATCH UP AND MAYBE IT SOUNDED LIKE MORE DID WITH THE AFTER.
BUT I COULD SEE THAT POTENTIALLY AFFECTING OUR OUR OVERALL GRADUATION RATE PRETTY SIGNIFICANTLY BECAUSE, I MEAN, IT'S LIKE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL, WE WENT FROM 482 TO 40, 285.
THAT'S ALMOST A TEN FOLD INCREASE.
SO OTHER THAN EXTENDING THAT TWO WEEKS, ARE THERE OTHER.
MEASURES THAT ARE BEING TAKEN PLACE TO HELP THE STUDENTS IN THOSE REGARDS OR TO ADDRESS THOSE NON CREDITS.
ONE OF THE ONE OF THE PROGRAMS WE'VE PUT IN PLACE IS SPECIFICALLY TARGETED AT FRESHMEN, WHICH IS THE FRESHMAN SUCCESS PROGRAM, AS WELL AS OPPORTUNITIES, AFTERSCHOOL FOR HOMEWORK, CLUB FOR SUPPORT.
TEACHERS ARE AVAILABLE BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL.
ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS TO LOOK AT WITH THE 1920 2021 DATA IS TO REMEMBER THAT.
IN 2020, WE MADE THE DECISION TO GIVE STUDENTS EITHER AN A OR AN INCOMPLETE.
SO BECAUSE WE WENT INTO THE REMOTE SETTING IN MARCH, WE HAD A LOT OF DISCUSSIONS AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL ABOUT WHETHER WE SHOULD GRADE STUDENTS.
AND A LOT OF THOSE CONVERSATIONS WERE AROUND EQUITY AND THE ABILITY OF KIDS TO BE ABLE TO ENGAGE. SO RATHER THAN PROVIDE A GRADE WEEK SHED AS A COVERED A THAT WHICH MEANT THAT VERY, VERY FEW STUDENTS DIDN'T RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THEIR SECOND SEMESTER 2020 CLASSES.
SO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, LOTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS HAPPENING AROUND THE HIGH SCHOOL IN TERMS OF SUPPORTING SPECIFIC GRADE LEVELS, SUPPORTING AFTER SCHOOL, WORKING WITH STUDENTS INDIVIDUALLY FROM THEIR CLASSES TO GET THEM CAUGHT UP AS BEST AS POSSIBLE.
WE OFFERED SUMMER SCHOOL LAST YEAR AND WE DIDN'T.
OUR SECONDARY STUDENTS WERE NOT PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN COMING TO SUMMER SCHOOL AND MAKING UP CREDIT.
SO LOOKING AT WHAT THAT MIGHT LOOK LIKE THIS SUMMER, THAT'S WE'RE KIND OF HAVING CONVERSATIONS ABOUT HOW WE'VE DONE IT TRADITIONALLY, HOW WE DID IT LAST YEAR, WHAT
[01:35:05]
IT COULD POTENTIALLY LOOK LIKE FOR THIS SUMMER.AND I GUESS PUTTING ON MY OTHER HAT, YOU KNOW, COMING FROM THE BUSINESS SIDE OF THINGS AND LOOKING TO AS THESE STUDENTS AS POTENTIAL HYBRIDS OR SUCH, HOW ARE WE? I KNOW COVID HAS IMPACTED SIGNIFICANTLY THE EDUCATION PROCESS.
HOW DO WE FEEL AS PART OF THAT MISSION OF BEING CAREER OR COLLEGE READY? HOW DO WE FEEL THAT THAT IS IMPACTING OR WHERE ARE THE STUDENTS IN THAT REGARD? YOU KNOW, BECAUSE I HAVE MY OPINIONS FROM THE HIRING PROCESS.
BUT WHAT WHAT IS THE PERSPECTIVE COMING FROM THE CURRICULUM AND AND SCHOOL SIDE? WE WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME LAST SUMMER, SUMMER 2020 AND THEN CONVERSATIONS INTO THIS YEAR AND MAKING SURE THAT WE REALLY FOCUSED ON THE ESSENTIAL STANDARDS FOR EACH COURSE.
AS YOU KNOW, LAST YEAR PARTICULARLY WAS VERY HARD FOR OUR HANDS ON SUBJECTS.
WELDING REMOTELY IS I'M NOT REALLY SURE HOW YOU COULD DO THAT.
SO THERE WERE A LOT OF LIMITATIONS WE HAD ON WHAT OUR STUDENTS CAN DO WHEN IT CAME TO A HANDS ON CLASS.
THEY THEY DID SO MUCH WITH WHAT THEY HAD.
AND THEN NOW IS LIKE WE TAUGHT A COUPLE OF, I THINK IT WAS LAST MONTH ABOUT THE ARTS AND TRYING TO REBUILD OUR ARTS BACK.
WE ARE HAVING NO PROBLEM WITH OUR STUDENTS COMING BACK INTO OUR CLASSES.
THEY'RE EXCITED TO BE HANDS ON AGAIN, AND THEY SEE THAT NEW BUILDING EVERY SINGLE DAY AND YOU CAN FEEL THE EXCITEMENT OF THAT TRANSITIONING TOWARDS THAT.
IT'S JUST IT'S BEEN TOUGH FOR OUR STUDENTS SOCIALLY, EMOTIONALLY, ACADEMICALLY.
ABSOLUTELY. SO DOING WHAT WE CAN TO SUPPORT THEM AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE IN CLASSES THAT ARE ENGAGING, BUT ALSO THAT THEY NEED TO RETRIEVE CREDIT.
WE'VE PUT IN A LOT OF SUPPORT CLASSES FOR BOTH MATH AND ELA THIS YEAR TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO TRY AND ACCELERATE.
WE'VE TALKED A LOT ABOUT AT THE END OF LAST YEAR WITH OUR WELLNESS AND RECOVERY AND TALK ABOUT THAT, ACCELERATING THAT LEARNING.
SO TRYING TO REALLY HELP SOME OF OUR KIDDOS GET BACK UP TO WHERE THEY WOULD HAVE TYPICALLY BEEN PRIOR TO LIVING THROUGH THE PANDEMIC.
BUT DON'T FORGET, DON'T LOSE SIGHT OF THE FACT, TOO, THAT THEY HAVE GAINED OTHER SKILLS THROUGH THIS. YOU KNOW, THEY HAVE LEARNED A LOT THROUGHOUT THAT THAT WE MIGHT NOT NECESSARILY BE MEASURING ACADEMICALLY.
SO JUST NOW HELPING THEM GET THAT ACCELERATION INTO THEIR ACADEMICS.
I'M KIND OF CURIOUS IF CUONG OR JAZZIE IF OUR IF OUR MISSION AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT IS TO GRADUATE YOU AND YOUR PEERS READY FOR COLLEGE OR YOUR OR CAREER OR WHATEVER YOUR NEXT PATH IS AFTER HIGH SCHOOL.
HOW DO YOU THINK WE'RE DOING? DO WE HAVE. I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THIS REPORT.
IT'S THIS REPORT MEASURE JUST LAST SEMESTER, INCLUDING LAST SEMESTER.
LONG. IT DOESN'T INCLUDE LAST SEMESTER BECAUSE IT WAS WRITTEN BEFORE LAST SEMESTER'S GRADES WERE PUBLISHED.
GOOD QUESTION. SO I JUST FEEL LIKE WITH WITH COVID AND EVERYTHING, MANY STUDENTS ARE REALLY STRUGGLING WITH CATCHING UP TO WHERE THEY ARE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE.
THERE ARE MANY STUDENTS WHO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF COVID SITUATIONS.
THAT KIND OF, INCLUDING ME, DOESN'T TAKE A LOT OF, YOU KNOW, FOR NO CLASSES, BUT INSTEAD JUST GO STRAIGHT TO, YOU KNOW, COMING TO THE COLLEGE TO TAKE MORE OPPORTUNITY THERE.
SO I'M NOT REALLY SURE HOW CAN I MEASURE THE PERCENTAGE OF FOR NO CLASSES AND WELCOME CLASSES BECAUSE I KNOW IF STUDENT WERE TAKING, YOU KNOW, WELCOME CLASSES, THAT WOULD BE, YOU KNOW, HIGHER.
[01:40:02]
HOW WILL YOU JAZZIE IF YOU HAVE? I'VE HONESTLY GOT NOT MUCH TO SAY.I THINK A LOT OF THE STUDENTS LIKE WE HAVE THE RESOURCES TO.
YOU GET BETTER GRADES AND STUFF AND ACTUALLY FOCUS ON OUR SCHOOL.
BUT. THEY'RE NOT TALKED ABOUT MUCH SO, BUT I THINK THEY ARE THERE.
AND I KNOW IF I NEEDED THE RESOURCES, I KNOW WHERE TO GO AND GET HELP.
I FEEL LIKE IT'S JUST THE REMINDER.
I FEEL LIKE LOTS OF STUDENTS NOW ARE COMING BACK.
HAS BEEN LOSING TRACK OF WHAT THEY WERE BEFORE.
SO IF THERE ARE NO REMINDERS LIKE FOR LAST SEMESTER, WE HAVE, YOU KNOW, LIKE A FEW WEEKS AFTER GRADING. BUT HOW.
I'M NOT REALLY SURE HOW IT'S GOING TO, YOU KNOW, HELP STUDENT IF THEY WERE LIKE STRUGGLING IN LIKE 30 ASSIGNMENTS IN LIKE SIX CLASSES.
SO I MEAN, IF THEY'RE, IF THEY WERE LIKE CAN BE MORE COMMUNICATIONS TO GIVE OUT TO STUDENTS ABOUT THOSE SUPPORT CLASSES BECAUSE I KNOW THAT HOMEWORK CLUB OR STRUGGLING YOU KNOW WELL THEY ARE ACTUALLY STRUGGLING THEY ARE STRUGGLING TO FIND STUDENTS GOING INTO THOSE CLASSES BECAUSE NOT LOTS OF STUDENTS ARE AREN'T ABLE TO GO TO HOMEWORK CLASSES JUST AFTER SCHOOL. THERE ARE OTHER STUFF LIKE PLAY PRACTICE FOR PRACTICE MUSIC CLUBS AND YOU KNOW, SO IF THERE WERE TO BE MORE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO BE INVOLVED IN CATCHING UP, THEN DO EITHER OF YOU KNOW ANY STUDENTS WHO HAVE GONE FROM NO CREDIT TO A GRADE AND HOW DID THEY DO IT? LIKE WHAT SORTS OF RESOURCES DID THEY FIND HELPFUL OR ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT IT? ONE OF MY FRIEND WENT FROM, YOU KNOW, NORMAL GRADING TO NO CREDITS BECAUSE THEY WERE JUST KIND OF STRUGGLING A LOT WITH, YOU KNOW, DOING ONLINE CLASSES AND GOING BACK TO IN-PERSON AND CATCHING UP WITH IT.
WHAT THEY DID WAS THEY SEE NO CREDIT AS LIKE A OPPORTUNITY TO JUST, YOU KNOW, FIND THEMSELVES AGAIN AND JUST FIGURE OUT WHERE THEY ARE.
BECAUSE WITH LIKE THE NO CREDIT REPORT IS IT'S DOESN'T GIVE THEM LIKE A MORE TIME TO SORT OUT WHAT THEY WANT TO DO IN THE FUTURE.
I FEEL LIKE IT'S LIKE A LOT OF LIKE STUDENTS JUST THINK ABOUT LIKE THEY JUST NEED SOME TIME TO SORT OUT WHERE THEY ARE.
SO YEAH, I'M NOT IN LIKE THE POSITION BECAUSE I'M LIKE IN LIKE, YOU KNOW, COMMUNITY COLLEGE. SO. YEAH.
I WONDER IF THERE'S LIKE THOSE, THOSE STUDENTS WHO HAVE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF IT.
LIKE WHAT? WHAT DID THEY DO? HOW DID THEY HOW WERE THEY SUCCESSFUL IN DOING THAT? AND IF IT'S LIKE IF THE HOMEWORK CLUBS ARE NOT.
HELPING OR THERE'S NOT STUDENTS GOING TO THEM OR WHATEVER.
BUT YOU HAVE A COHORT OF STUDENTS THAT DID THIS.
MAYBE WE SUPPORT THAT OR I KNOW I'M TALKING TO JUST ONE TEACHER AND THERE ARE OTHERS TOO.
BUT SHE WAS TELLING ME HOW MANY STUDENTS HAD REALLY UTILIZED THAT TIME.
SHE HAD A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER GET UP FROM AN NC TO A GRADE AND WITHIN THOSE TWO WEEKS, I THINK A LOT OF IT IS THAT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TEACHER OF COME IN, LET ME HELP YOU. LET'S GET THIS QUIZ TAKEN AND JUST THAT THAT KIND OF SENSE OF URGENCY THAT STUDENTS FEEL AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER, WHICH GENERATES THAT, OKAY, WHAT DO I NEED TO DO NOW? YEAH, I THINK YOU HAVE THE FISH ON THE LINE THEN.
SO EXTENDING IT THE TWO WEEKS I THINK WAS GREAT.
THE FISH THAT HAVE GOTTEN AWAY THAT IT WAS A YEAR OR SO AGO.
IT'S LIKE THAT RELATIONSHIP THAT THEY MAYBE DIDN'T HAVE WITH THE TEACHER THEN ANYWAY BECAUSE IT WAS ONLINE AND JUST IT WAS A CRAP YEAR ANYWAY.
BUT MAYBE LIKE CURRENT TEACHERS HAVE GOOD RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO MOVE THEIR ENCES, EVEN IF IT'S NOT A CLASS THAT WAS WITH THEM, BUT JUST SOME SORT OF, I DON'T KNOW, JUST IT'S OKAY TO GO BACK AND DO THAT WORK SO THAT YOU CAN CATCH UP BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT ANYBODY NOT GRADUATING BECAUSE OF SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED FRESHMAN YEAR. RIGHT.
AND YOU HAD TALKED ABOUT HOW THE GRADING IN HIGH SCHOOL IS A LOT DIFFERENT THAN WHAT THEY DO IN THE GRADE SCHOOLS IN TERMS OF STANDARD BASED PROGRESSION.
IS THERE ANY OPTION FOR STUDENTS TO PROVE THAT THEY HAVE COMPETENCE IN AREAS THAT ESSENTIALLY LIKE TO TAKE A TEST AND CHALLENGE THEIR WAY OUT OF CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS? CREDIT BY CHALLENGE.
WE DO HAVE SOME COMPETENCY GRADE.
[01:45:02]
I CAN'T PRONOUNCE IT.NOT IN EVERYTHING, BUT IN SOME THINGS.
I REMEMBER I WAS SPEAKING ON A RELATED TOPIC TO THIS, BUT I KNOW THAT OUR SCHOOL DOESN'T ALLOW HONOR CLASSES TO HAVE LIKE A BECAUSE HONOR CLASSES ARE LIKE A CHALLENGING, MORE CHALLENGING CLASSES THAN NORMAL CLASSES.
I WAS JUST THINKING OF LIKE, WHY DON'T OUR SCHOOL ENABLE STUDENTS IF THEY WERE TAKING OTHER CLASSES TO, YOU KNOW, HAVE THAT TO BE.
HELPING THEIR MORALE, THEIR GRADES AND JUST NORMAL, YOU KNOW, GRADING, BECAUSE I KNOW THAT THROUGHOUT MY HIGH SCHOOL JOURNEY, I'VE JUST BEEN TAKING THEIR CLASSES.
AND IF I WERE TO FELT LIKE I HAVE AN A-MINUS ON THAT MY GPA DROP AND MY RANKING FOR A WHILE, I WORRY ABOUT MY RANKING, BUT LIKE MY RANKING DROPPED FARTHER THAN THOSE WHO ARE JUST TAKING NORMAL CLASSES AND ARE LIKE, YOU KNOW, TRY AS HARD AS I DO.
SO I THINK THAT'S KIND OF AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE TO LIKE THOSE WHO WANT TO CHALLENGE THEMSELVES MORE, BUT MAYBE HAVE A LITTLE STEP BACK AND THEN THOSE WHO JUST DON'T TRY AT ALL AND JUST WIN IT.
I MEAN, WE'VE DISCUSSED AT LEAST I'VE HAD SOME CONVERSATIONS I KNOW HAD THEM WITH DR.
QUINN AND, AND OTHERS, YOU KNOW, AS FAR AS.
IF YOU IF YOU PUSH YOURSELF INTO AN HONORS CLASS.
YOU MAY ONLY GET A B OUT OF THE HONORS CLASS, BUT YOU MAY LEARN MORE THAN IF YOU GET AN A IN THE REGULAR CLASS.
AND DOES THE CURRENT GPA SYSTEM AND THE GRADING SYSTEM DISCOURAGE PEOPLE FROM PUSHING THEMSELVES HARDER, PARTICULARLY IF THEY'RE LOOKING AT CLASS, RANK OR THINGS THAT WAY? I KNOW YOU MENTIONED AS FAR AS MOVING FORWARD WITH THE EQUITABLE BASED GRADING AND DOES THAT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THAT OR.
I WAS TRYING I COULDN'T TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT EXACTLY THAT WAS.
AND I KNOW THAT'S COMING, BUT HARSHLY.
AS WE LOOK BACK ON THESE REPORTS.
UNFORTUNATELY, COVID HAS KIND OF DECIMATED A LOT OF THINGS IN THE SENSE OF DID WE MAKE ADEQUATE PROGRESS? NOT REALLY. WE NEED TO MAKE UP FOR THAT.
BUT AS WE MOVE FORWARD, I'M LOOKING AT THAT AND GOING, WHAT? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? AND HOW HOW DOES THAT.
PLAY IN. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT YOU KIND OF REALLY TOUCHED ON WITH EQUITABLE BASED GRADING IS IF YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT WE DO RIGHT NOW, THE TRADITIONAL BASED GRADING, 0 TO 59.9 IS AN F OR A NO CREDIT.
AND THEN YOU GO LITTLE 10% INCREMENTS TO GET AN A, 10% FOR A D, 10% FOR A C.
SO THERE IS A REALLY BIG DISPARITY BETWEEN WHAT IT TAKES TO GET AN NC VERSUS WHAT IT TAKES TO JUST GET A LETTER GRADE.
SO THAT'S ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS THAT WE'LL TACKLE WHEN YOU LOOK AT EQUITY BASED GRADING IS HOW EQUITABLE IS IT? IF I MISSED ONE ASSIGNMENT OR ONE QUIZ, IT'S GOING TO TAKE ME A WHOLE LOT TO GET BACK UP.
IT'S GOING TO TAKE YOU MULTIPLE A'S TO BRING THAT ZERO UP TO WHERE I AM JUST BARELY PASSING. SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT EQUITY, THAT 0 TO 60.
ISN'T AS EQUITABLE AS 60 TO 100.
SO THAT'S KIND OF ONE OF THE FIRST PLACES WE'LL START TACKLING.
AND THEN LOOKING AT ELEMENTARY USERS, A STANDARDS BASED GRADING AND THEN LOOKING AT MOVING INTO WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO MEET STANDARD AND THAT COMPETENCY.
DO I, AM I COMPETENT IN THAT SKILL VERSUS DID I TURN ANYTHING IN? DID I NOT TURN SOMETHING IN? I'M LOOKING AT GRADING ALONG THE WAY WITHIN A CLASS.
SO YOU GRADE A PART OF AN ASSIGNMENT, BUT THEN YOU COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT LATER IN THE CLASS. AND WHILE YOU'RE LEARNING WHAT'S THE GRADE THE SERVICE IS, ONCE YOU KIND OF MASTERED IT, WHAT YOUR GRADES, ALL OF THOSE KIND OF CONVERSATIONS WILL BE A BIG PART OF THAT WORK GROUP.
YOU KNOW, THERE'S IN MY MIND AND MAYBE I'M JUST TOO OLD TO UNDERSTAND IT, BUT THERE'S A CERTAIN LEVEL OF.
YOU'VE GOT TO HAVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF OF.
KNOWLEDGE. YOU NEED TO HAVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF KNOWLEDGE BASE AND.
THAT THERE'S GOT TO BE SOME SORT OF STANDARD THERE.
[01:50:01]
SO IT.THAT. THE WAY I'M HEARING THIS, I DON'T THINK THAT'S THE WAY YOU'RE MEANING TO PORTRAY IT. OR AT LEAST I HOPE NOT IS.
KIND OF MAKING IT REALLY WISHY WASHY AND AGAIN, PUTTING ON MY OTHER HAT AS A BUSINESSMAN AND AN EMPLOYER.
I NEED PEOPLE THAT ARE GOING TO SHOW UP WITH A SKILL SET THAT'S THAT HAS VALUE SO THAT I CAN AFFORD TO PAY THEM WHAT THEY NEED TO EARN TO MAKE A LIVING AND TO CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY AS A WHOLE.
AND SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE SOME OF THE STUDENTS THAT ARE COMING OUT KIND OF HAVE THIS. WELL, YOU KNOW, I KIND OF TRIED AND THAT'S GREAT, BUT KIND OF TRYING DOESN'T.
HELP MOVE YOU ALONG IN THAT CAREER PATH.
AND SO, AGAIN, KIND OF EXAGGERATING THAT TO PUT IT INTO PERSPECTIVE.
BUT, YOU KNOW, I FEEL LIKE THERE'S GOT TO BE I LIKE STANDARDS BASED WHERE IT'S LIKE, OKAY, YOU KNOW, THIS MATERIAL AND YOU ASK, BUT I FEEL LIKE TO A CERTAIN DEGREE THAT IS THE IF YOU DON'T KNOW, 60% OF THE MATERIAL.
IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT THAT'S 60% VERSUS 40%.
THERE'S GOT TO BE A MINIMUM STANDARD.
ON A LOT OF THE A LOT OF THE CLASSES AND TESTS AND EVERYTHING JUST TRADITIONALLY HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO BE THAT 60% AND BELOW IS.
A FAILING GRADE AND THEN IT'S THAT 10%.
SO I THINK IF YOU MOVE AWAY FROM THAT, YOU'VE ALSO GOT TO REDESIGN HOW YOUR.
TEACHING THE CLASS, HOW YOU'RE ASSESSING THE CLASS AND EVERYTHING.
AND THEN MY OTHER QUESTION KIND OF TAGGING ON, IF WE MOVE AWAY FROM TRADITIONAL GRADING AND COLLEGE ACCEPTANCES AND SUCH, THEY'RE ALREADY MOVING AWAY FROM STANDARDIZED TESTING. AND SO THEN IF WE ALSO GIVE THEM A STUDENT WHO DOESN'T HAVE A GPA LIKE A TRADITIONAL GPA, IT'S LIKE, HOW DO YOU HAVE A FERNDALE STUDENT? PRESENT THEMSELVES THAT, YES, I SHOULD GO TO THIS SCHOOL AND BE ACCEPTED AT THAT SCHOOL.
THE GOOD NEWS IS OTHER DISTRICTS HAVE TACKLED THIS BEFORE US, SO WE HAVE SOME GOOD MODELS TO LOOK AT AS WE TAKE THIS BIG PROJECT ON.
SO I'M VERY GLAD THAT OTHER HIGH SCHOOLS HAVE GONE BEFORE US, THAT WE'VE GOT EXAMPLES TO LOOK AT AND TO DISCUSS AND LOOK AT WHAT IT MEANS FOR US.
COULD YOU GIVE US THOSE EXAMPLES SO WE CAN GO LOOK AT THEM TO.
AH YES, BELLINGHAM IS MOVE TOWARDS EQUITABLE BASED GRADING AND THERE ARE A COUPLE OF DISTRICTS THAT I KNOW OF ON THE EAST SIDE.
SO WE'LL BE FOLLOWING ALONG AND LOOKING AT WHAT THEY DID AS WE MOVE TOWARDS THAT.
IT WOULD BE INTERESTING AND POTENTIALLY MAYBE A STUDY SESSION, YOU KNOW, AGAIN, LOOKING FUTURISTIC BECAUSE.
I'LL ADMIT RIGHT NOW I'M SKEPTICAL OF IT, BUT THAT'S PARTIALLY BECAUSE I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT.
WELL, WE'LL MAKE IT FEEL GOOD.
AND I THINK SOMETIMES IF WE WANT TO, WE WANT TO PUSH OUR STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE THEIR BEST.
YOU KNOW, SOMETIMES I THINK THEY NEED A LITTLE MORE INCENTIVE.
I KNOW EVEN MY IN THE CASE OF MY OWN CHILDREN, WHO ARE FAIRLY WELL DRIVEN, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, WHEN THEY GET INTO A CLASS WHERE IT'S KIND OF THIS.
WHAT'S THE WORD I'M LOOKING FOR, NEBULA.
WE DON'T HAVE THESE DEFINING MARKS.
IT'S KIND OF LIKE THERE'S A TENDENCY WITHIN THEM.
AND THEY TALK ABOUT THEIR FRIENDS WHO IT'S KIND OF LIKE, WELL, WHAT'S THE MINIMUM I HAVE TO DO TO PASS? AND I DON'T THINK THAT BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN THEM.
AND THAT'S WHAT I FEEL LIKE I'M HEARING.
HOPEFULLY I'M JUST MISUNDERSTANDING, BUT THERE POTENTIALLY MIGHT BE SOME STUDENTS THAT THAT DOES BRING OUT THE BEST IN THEM.
BUT THE CONSENSUS I'VE HAD OF WHAT I'VE SEEN ACROSS THE BROADER SPECTRUM IS I SEE MORE NEGATIVE THAN I'VE SEEN POSITIVE.
YOU'RE PROBABLY RIGHT. THERE ARE PROBABLY ARE STUDENTS THAT DO BETTER IN THAT ROLE.
BUT EVEN LIKE KONG IS SAYING, IF I'M TAKING A HARDER CLASS, I SHOULD GET MORE RETURN FOR THAT. SO I MEAN, THAT'S AGAIN, IT MAY VERY WELL BE THAT IT'S MY LACK OF UNDERSTANDING, BUT THAT, YOU KNOW.
YOU KNOW, WHEN MOST OF WHAT I'VE SEEN AS FAR AS OUT IN, AGAIN, THE BUSINESS WORLD, WHICH IS WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO PREPARE THEM FOR, FOR CAREER AND SUCH.
[01:55:02]
THERE ARE. HERE'S THE RUBRIC.HERE'S WHAT YOU HAVE TO MEET TO MEET THE STANDARD.
AND IF YOU DON'T MEET THAT, THEN WE'LL RELEASE YOU TO FIND EMPLOYMENT SOMEWHERE ELSE. AND I.
I WANT TO MAKE SURE OUR STUDENTS ARE READY FOR THAT.
AND HAVE THE SKILLS AND THE CRITICAL THINKING ABILITIES THAT CAN MAKE THEM VALUABLE TO NOT ONLY THE PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY SO THAT THEY CAN FIND GOOD JOBS, BUT ALSO TO EXCEL ELSEWHERE AT ALL.
SO THEN SHOULD EACH COURSE HAVE AN EXIT EXAM THAT SAYS, YOU KNOW, THESE ARE THE SKILLS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ACQUIRED IN THIS CLASS AND THEY'RE WEIGHTED BY IMPORTANCE.
AND, YOU KNOW, IF YOU CAN MARK OFF THIS NUMBER OF SKILLS, YOU CAN DEMONSTRATE THAT YOU HAVE PROFICIENCY IN THIS AREA.
IS THAT HEALTHY AND HOW WHAT DOES THAT EXAM LOOK LIKE? BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME KIDS THAT COULD GIVE AN ORAL REPORT ON SOMETHING, NO PROBLEM.
BUT IF IT'S WRITTEN MULTIPLE CHOICE EXAMS, JUST LIKE.
NO. SO DO YOU MAKE IT SO THAT THERE'S DIFFERENT TYPES OF ASSESSMENTS THAT ARE ASSESSING THE SAME THINGS, BUT JUST WITH DIFFERENT WAYS? YEAH, IN MY MIND THAT SEEMS LIKE A THAT WOULD MAKE SENSE AS AN EQUITABLE GRADING SYSTEM, WHEREAS YOU HAVE MULTIPLE WAYS TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR ABILITY, YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE INFORMATION. BECAUSE YEAH, I MEAN, I KNOW PEOPLE WHO CAN TAKE A TRUE FALSE QUESTION AND EVEN CONFUSE ME IF I KNOW THE ANSWER, BECAUSE THEY WELL, IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT THIS WAY, YOU KNOW, I'VE HAD SOME THAT CAN MAKE A TRUE FALSE QUESTION, TRUE OR FALSE, JUST BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY'RE THINKING IT AND WHAT THEY READ INTO IT.
MULTIPLE CHOICE OR THE SAME WAY.
SOME PEOPLE GET NERVOUS ABOUT THOSE TESTS AND.
NO. BUT IF THEY HAD AN ORAL CONVERSATION WITH THE TEACHER, YOU KNOW, WHERE IT'S LIKE, OKAY, WE GO THROUGH THIS AND YOU CHECK OFF.
AND IF IF I CAN INTERRUPT THERE, THAT FITS IN PERFECTLY WITH WHERE WE'RE GOING WITH OUR UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING, WHICH IS HAVING MULTIPLE WAYS TO DEMONSTRATE THAT I HAVE MASTERED A CONTENT OR THAT I KNOW SOME KNOW SOMETHING OR CAN SHOW SOMETHING.
IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE A MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST, DOESN'T HAVE TO BE TRUTHFUL.
IT COULD BE A POEM. IT COULD BE AN INFOMERCIAL.
SO LONG AS. AND THAT'S WHERE IT GOES INTO THE EQUITY BASE.
EXACTLY WHAT YOU TALKED ABOUT, WHERE YOU HAVE A RUBRIC AND HERE ARE MY STANDARDS AND HOW I DEMONSTRATE TO YOU THAT I MET STANDARD DOESN'T HAVE TO LOOK THE SAME FOR YOU AS IT DOES FOR ME SO THAT IT'S ALL TIED IN TO OUR MTS WORK.
YOU'VE HEARD US TALKING ABOUT OUR UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING, LOOKING AT GRADING AS PRACTICE, LOOKING AT MASTERY, JUST LOOKING AT IT REALLY DIFFERENTLY FROM A PERSPECTIVE OF HOW DO I SHOW THAT I MEET THESE MINIMUM STANDARDS OR BEYOND WITHIN A COURSE? AND THE OTHER PIECE TO THAT TOO, IS TO THINK ABOUT LIKE AN A IN YOUR CLASS SHOULD BE THE SAME AS AN A IN MY CLASS SO THAT IT'S NOT LACK OF THE TEACHER THAT YOU GET, THAT THEY ARE STANDARDIZED AMONG THEMSELVES IN TERMS OF WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE AN A, WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE A B, THAT'S KIND OF THE YOU'RE ANSWERING THE FOLLOW UP QUESTION, WHICH BECOMES IF WE HAVE THIS MULTITUDE OF WAYS OF DEMONSTRATING, THEN WE HAVE TO HAVE CONSISTENCY IN THE.
EVALUATION OF THOSE MULTIPLE WAYS, WHICH STARTS ADDING EVEN MORE.
YOU KNOW. NOT RANDOMNESS, BUT MORE CHALLENGES TO THAT, GETTING EVERYBODY STANDARDIZED AS FAR AS THE GRADING END OF THINGS.
OKAY. OTHER QUESTIONS FOR FAITH.
I'M STILL KIND OF SHAKY ON THE WHOLE MULTI-TIERED SUPPORT SYSTEM AND UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING. IS THERE A POSSIBILITY TO JUST MEET WITH YOU TO GET A BETTER EXPLANATION OF WHAT THIS WOULD LOOK LIKE FOR AN INDIVIDUAL STUDENT, HOW THAT WOULD WOULD WORK? BECAUSE I'M STILL PRETTY FUZZY ON THAT.
YEP. WHAT? ANOTHER THING FUTURISTIC.
WHAT DOES THAT PROCESS? LOOK LIKE OR.
WHERE DO WE STAND WITH IT OR WHO? WHO DOES THAT? YEAH.
[02:00:02]
THE HIGH SCHOOL TEAM IS CURRENTLY WORKING WITH A COACH WHO'S A FORMER RETIRED SUPERINTENDENT. WE ARE PART OF A CONSORTIUM WITHIN THE ESD, SO THEY MEET BETWEEN ONCE AND WEEKLY AND EVERY OTHER WEEK.THEY WORK ON A SET OF EXPECTATIONS THAT THEY HAVE TO SHOW THAT THEY MEET TO SHOW THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO BE ACCREDITED.
ONCE WE GET TO I THINK ABOUT MAY, THEN WE TAKE THE WORK WE'VE BEEN DOING THIS YEAR.
WE PRESENT IT, I BELIEVE, AT THE ESD AND IT'S KIND OF LIKE DEFENDING A DISSERTATION.
YOU HAVE ALL OF YOUR YOU HAVE A TEAM THAT'S WORKING ON THIS, ARE GATHERING INFORMATION, ALL OF THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING AND THAT WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT THE MTS UDL LOOKING AT THE NINTH GRADE SUCCESS, ALL OF THAT GOES INTO SHOWING WHY WE SHOULD BE AN ACCREDITED HIGH SCHOOL. SO IT IS AN ONGOING PROCESS AT THE MOMENT THAT A TEAM IS BEING SUPPORTED WITH. ARE WE CURRENTLY SAID IT'S A RENEWAL PROCESS? ARE WE CURRENTLY ACCREDITED? CORRECT. AND HOW OFTEN DO WE GET ACCREDITED? AND ARE THERE ANY SCHOOLS IN WHATCOM COUNTY THAT ARE NOT ACCREDITED THAT YOU KNOW OF? I DON'T KNOW OF ANY ON IT'S JUST HIGH SCHOOL AND I BELIEVE IT'S A FOUR YEAR CYCLE.
SO THE FOUR OR SIX I CAN FIND OUT DEFINITIVELY, THAT'S FINE.
I'M JUST KIND OF. SO IS THERE A RATING THAT GOES WITH THIS ACCREDITATION SYSTEM OR IS IT JUST YOU'RE ACCREDITED, YOU'RE EITHER ACCREDITED OR NOT ACCREDITED OR THERE'S NO AND THEY HAVE STANDARDS FROM WHICH THEY DETERMINE THAT WE ARE WORTHY OF BEING ACCREDITED. WHAT DOES IT MEAN IF YOU'RE NOT? NOT THAT WE'RE NOT GOING TO BE.
BUT THE BENEFITS OF BEING ACCREDITED, THEN WHEN YOU'RE APPLYING TO UNIVERSITY, YOU'RE COMING FROM A HIGH SCHOOL THAT'S BEEN VERIFIED.
SO THAT'S THE BIGGEST ADVANTAGE, IS WE WANT OUR STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO SAY THEY CAME FROM AN ACCREDITED HIGH SCHOOL THAT SHOWS THAT THEY HAVE MET THESE PROFICIENCIES AND THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE RECEIVING THE EDUCATION THAT WOULD BE EXPECTED FROM AN ACCREDITED HIGH SCHOOL. THANK YOU.
ONE ONE CLARIFICATION QUESTION ON PAGE THREE OF THE REPORT, RIGHT UP AT THE TOP, IT SAID IN THE BLACK, WELL, WE SAW A PERCENTAGE IMPROVEMENT IN 2020.
THE GRADUATION RATE IN 2021 FELL SLIGHTLY BELOW 89%.
SHOULD THAT BE 85? YOU ARE CORRECT. SORRY.
WELL, THAT'S WHY I THOUGHT I WAS JUST LIKE, OKAY.
PRETTY SURE THAT'S WHAT I'LL LET IT.
NO PROBLEM. BUT WE WANT TO SAY THAT WE WANT AN ABSOLUTE INCREASE OF 2%, BECAUSE IF YOU INCREASE 85% BY 2%, DON'T YOU GET TO LIKE 85.9 OR OR DO WE WANT 87 ACTUALLY? RIGHT NOW, YOU WOULD GET TO 85.1 AND THAT WOULD BE A 2% INCREASE.
AND 2% OF THAT WOULD BE LIKE ONE AND A HALF.
SO IF WE SET AN ABSOLUTE 2% INCREASE EACH YEAR.
IS THAT RIGHT? PEGGY, YOU'RE THE MATH PERSON.
I'M SORRY. SO WE SAY THAT WE BELIEVE IT IS REASONABLE TO EXPECT AN INCREASE OF 2% IN THE OVERALL DISTRICT GRADUATION RATE DURING THE YEAR AHEAD.
AND IF YOUR GRADUATION RATE IS 85% AND YOU HAVE A 2% INCREASE, YOU'RE LIKE 85.4 OR SOMETHING. SHOULD WE SAY AN ABSOLUTE 2%? ASK ME TONIGHT. OKAY.
THAT'S ME. I INTERPRET THAT AS 86.8 WAS, YEAH, BRING IT UP TO 80. A 2% ON 85 WOULD BRING IT UP TO 86.7.
OKAY. SHIFT OVER MY LITTLE BOY.
I DON'T KNOW IF I'LL MEET STANDARD IN MATHEMATICS OR.
OKAY. WELL, THANK YOU, FAYE, FOR THE REPORT AND THE INFORMATION, AS ALWAYS.
CERTAINLY. PLEASE TURN IN YOUR COMMENTS AND COMMENDATIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS AND OTHER
[02:05:01]
NOTES SO THAT I CAN FILL OUT THE REPORT TO HAVE IT ON THE IN THE CONSENT AGENDA AS NEXT MONTH. SO WHEN WE GO TO APPROVE THE REPORT.OKAY. SO THAT TAKES US ON THEN TO ITEM 7.01, WHICH OR SEVEN WHICH IS
[7. SHARING [GC-7.E.]]
SHARING AND 7.01 WHICH IS STUDENT BOARD MEMBER SHARING.SO JAZZIE KONG, I'M NOT SURE WHO WANTS TO GO FIRST, BUT SO TODAY THE FIRST THING ON THE REPORT IS THE NEW SEMESTER.
I FEEL LIKE STUDENTS ARE GOING BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, LIKE THE SEMESTER THING INSTEAD OF QUARTERLY AND LOTS OF STUDENTS ARE MORE LOOKING FORWARD TO, YOU KNOW, THE END OF THE YEAR, ESPECIALLY ME WITH GRADUATION.
SO. AND THEN THE NEXT THING I WANT TO REPORT ABOUT IS.
SO FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, I'VE BEEN MEETING WITH THE WASTE COORDINATOR AND THE OTHER STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES.
WE'RE CREATING LIKE A RECOMMENDATION FOR LIKE, WHAT'S THE EXPECTATION FOR STUDENTS REPRESENTATIVES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE AND IT'S ALMOST DONE.
AND THE FIRST THING IS GOING TO BE GOING TO IT.
YOU KNOW, IT'S, THEY'RE GONNA BE PRESENTED AT THE NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATIONS AND THEN AFTER THAT, I THINK IT'S GOING TO I THINK IT'S GOING TO LIKE ROLL IN AROUND LIKE THE NEXT LEGISLATION TO SECTIONS OR WHENEVER, YOU KNOW, THE STATE IS MEETING WITH LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS.
AND THEN MY AND THEN I ALSO HAVE MY UPCOMING PROJECTS FOR THE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE ROLES. LAST YEAR I DID THE EXCHANGE WITH GATHERING STUDENT INFORMATION AND WHAT THEIR NEED AND IN NEED OF AND IN NEED OF SUPPORT.
AND THEN THIS YEAR, I'M JUST KIND OF ROLLING THAT UP AGAIN TO TAKE THAT FOUNDATION AND BUILD SOMETHING AFTERWARD AND JUST BRANCHING IT OUT.
SO MY FIRST PROJECT IS JUST KIND OF.
GETTING MORE MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM TO JUST GO INTO THE SCHOOL.
BECAUSE I REMEMBER IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, I HAVE SO MANY MENTORS THAT COMING INTO THE HIGH SCHOOL, I MEAN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.
TALKING ABOUT WHAT THEY DO AND THEN THE EFFECTS THAT THEY DO AND HOW CAN THAT HELP THE STUDENTS? AND I HAVEN'T SEEN A LOT OF THAT IN THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL, SO I WANT TO BUILD THAT UP AGAIN.
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS TRANSITION OF STUDENTS GOING FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL? SO I'VE REACHED OUT TO MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS, SCHOOL PRINCIPALS TO JUST PLAN THAT TO HAPPEN. AND I'M JUST GOING TO TALK TO WITH MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT AND SEE HOW THEY'RE GOING. AND YEAH, JUST IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING, JUST LIKE COLIN SAID, THE NEW SEMESTER IS GOING PRETTY WELL.
I GOT TO SPEAK WITH MS. BRITT AND THEN OUR PRINCIPAL MS..
DILLON LAST WEEK WAS TALKING ABOUT OUR PROJECTS AND STUFF.
I FOUND OUT LIKE I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT MY FOOTING FOR MINE.
I GUESS. BRING MORE. BRING MORE.
AND WE TALKED ABOUT DOING ALMOST LIKE A CLUB FAIR AND LIKE.
STUFF LIKE THAT FOR THE INCOMING FRESHMEN OR TO STUDENTS WHO AREN'T AWARE OF ALL THE CLUBS WE HAVE. AND THEN ANOTHER PART OF IT WOULD BE LIKE SHEDDING MORE LIGHT ON THE SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM.
SPECIAL NEEDS AND I WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE FERNDALE LIKE KNOWING I DID MY JOB MAKING IT A BETTER PLACE FOR HIM.
SO I WANTED IT TO MAKE IT MORE ACCESSIBLE FOR THE SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM, TO GET INTO CLUBS AND FEEL WELCOME AND COMFORTABLE AND SAFE THERE.
SO I'M TRYING TO FIND MY FOOTING ON WHAT I'M GOING TO DO THERE AND.
YEAH, I THINK THAT'S PRETTY MUCH IT.
THANK YOU. SO ELECTED BOARD MEMBERS.
I HAVE SOMETHING FROM AND THIS WAS ONE OF THE LEGISLATIVE WEEKLY MEETINGS, THE LEGISLATIVE WEEKLY MEETINGS THAT WAS TO HAS LAST WEEK.
THEY TALKED ABOUT A BILL THAT PASSED LAST YEAR AND GOES INTO EFFECT THIS YEAR THAT REQUIRES CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR BOARD MEMBERS, SPECIFICALLY ABOUT COMMITMENT TO EDUCATIONAL EQUITY AT THE BOARD LEVEL.
THE HANDOUT IS KIND OF AN FAQ ON IT.
[02:10:03]
IF YOU LOOK AT AND THE LINK IS ALSO OR NO, THE LINK IS NOT THERE ON THE BOTTOM OF PAGE TWO, AT THE BOTTOM THE INTRODUCTION EVERYBODY TAKES AND THEN THE A THROUGH YOU CHOOSE TOPICS OUT OF THOSE.AS FAR AS FOR WHEN IT HAS TO BE DONE FOR KEVIN, MYSELF AND JESSE, WHO HAVE BEEN ON THE BOARD TWO YEARS, WE HAVE TO DO IT SOMETIME WITHIN THE NEXT TWO YEARS FOR NEWLY ELECTED BOARD MEMBERS. IT HAS TO BE DONE WITHIN THE FIRST TWO YEARS.
AND AS FAR AS HOW IT'S GOING TO BE DELIVERED, IT'S GOING TO BE LIKE AT THE WASEDA MEETINGS. THERE WILL BE OPPORTUNITIES IN NOVEMBER TO DO IT.
AND THEN THEY ALSO ARE GOING TO BE DOING TRAININGS THROUGHOUT THE STATE.
THERE HAVEN'T BEEN ANY LOCALLY AROUND HERE, BUT JUST, YOU KNOW.
SO IF WE DON'T DO IT, WE GET KICKED OFF THE BOARD.
THAT'S ONE WAY TO GET KICKED OFF THE BOARD, I GUESS.
NO, I'M JUST KIDDING. I DON'T KNOW.
DIDN'T ASK THAT. IT'S A. IF YOU DON'T DO IT.
I JUST. I HAVE BEEN RUNNING THROUGH SOME OF THE OTHER COMMENTS AS FAR AS THE SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH.
IF THERE'S A TIME AND PLACE WHERE WE'LL BE ABLE TO ADDRESS SOME OF THOSE CONCERNS THAT ARE OUT THERE AS FAR AS.
COMING UP AND SOME OF THE CHALLENGES WE'RE GOING TO HAVE AND SOME DECISIONS YOU'VE GOT TO. THOSE TYPES OF THINGS.
THERE'S A LOT OF INFORMATION OUT THERE.
CONCERNS. IT'S A BIG LIST IS A LOT TO GO THROUGH.
SO I'M JUST WONDERING HOW WE TACKLE SOMETHING.
GOOD QUESTION. AND THERE'S A LOT YOU KNOW, IT'S A BROAD SPECTRUM OF TOPICS.
I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY IF EVERYBODY'S HAD A CHANCE TO READ THROUGH THAT WHOLE LIST, THERE'S THERE'S DEFINITELY SOME TRENDS, BUT THERE'S ALSO SOME OUT THERE IDEAS AND THINGS, TOO. I'M ASSUMING IF WE ARE HAVING A DISCUSSION WITH THAT, IT WOULD FALL UNDER OPEN PUBLIC VERSUS.
SO BASICALLY IF WE WERE TO DISCUSS IT.
IN GENERAL, WE NEED TO SCHEDULE A MEETING BETWEEN NOW AND.
AND CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, BECAUSE I'M THINKING OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD, WHICH IS DANGEROUS. COULD WE YOU KNOW, IF WE'VE ALL WENT THROUGH THAT, COULD WE HAVE SOME DISCUSSION OF THAT AS A PREAMBLE OF OUR.
OUR MARCH 8TH MEETING TO KIND OF DISCUSS SOME OF THOSE THINGS AND AND GO OVER THOSE WITH.
I THINK WE NEED TO SET A TIME ON IT.
PART OF IT'S GOING TO DEPEND ON HOW MANY APPLICATIONS AND THAT WE NEED TO GO THROUGH AND HOW. YOU KNOW.
I LIKE THAT IDEA BECAUSE WE HAVE A LOT OF MEETINGS COMING UP IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.
HOWEVER, IF WE HAVE IT, THEN THAT THEN IT WOULD HAPPEN AFTER WE'VE LOOKED THROUGH ALL OF THE INDIVIDUALLY, LOOKED THROUGH ALL THE APPLICANTS, AND WE WANT TO HAVE THAT CONVERSATION BEFORE WE LOOK AT THE.
YEAH. I THINK GOING INTO THAT, IT WOULD BE A GOOD THING TO ADDRESS SOME OF.
YOU KNOW, JUST JUST TO BRING IT TO THE FOREFRONT AND KIND OF PRIORITIZE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT'S. YOU KNOW, GOING INTO IT SO THAT YEAH, I THINK IT'S I THINK IT'D BE IMPORTANT. IN THE SENSE OF AND JUST TO CLARIFY BEFORE WE WOULD BE LIKE IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. YEAH.
I THINK THERE WOULD BE BENEFIT TO LIKE IF WE HAD IT ON MONDAY.
SHORT ISH MEETING WHERE WE'VE ALL GONE THROUGH THE 49 PAGES AND WE COME AND SAY, MY TAKE HOME MESSAGE OF WHAT VENDELA IS LOOKING FOR IS THIS.
AND WE CAN SHARE ALL OF OUR TAKE HOME MESSAGES ARE AND WE DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE TO COME TO A CONSENSUS THAT WE'RE ALL GOING TO BE LOOKING FOR THESE THINGS.
WE'VE ALL READ THIS AND UNDERSTAND WHAT EVERYBODY.
[02:15:10]
WELL, I THINK I THINK YOU'RE NOT GOING TO AGREE ON EVERYTHING, BUT I THINK YOU PUT EVERYBODY TOGETHER TO.EVERYBODY'S GOING TO HAVE TO PRIORITIZE THINGS DIFFERENTLY.
SO I THINK IT'S A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT THAT EVERYBODY REVIEWS THAT, THAT INFORMATION, AND THEN THEY BRING FORWARD WHAT THEY THINK IS IMPORTANT TO THEM.
AND THEN YOU DISCUSS IT AMONG YOURSELVES AS FAR AS YOU KNOW, AND BRING IT TOGETHER.
MAYBE YOU DOWNSIZE IT AND PICK OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THAT EVERYBODY AGREES TO.
SOME THINGS IN THERE. VERY IMPORTANT THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED, ESPECIALLY MOVING FORWARD. FOR.
THAT'S PEGGY. WELL, I'M TOSSING THIS OVER.
BECAUSE IT ALMOST. CAN I GO TO THE OPPOSITE END OF THINGS BETTER? YOU KNOW, I THINK WE PROBABLY ALL ARRIVED AT.
IT MIGHT BE BETTER IF THAT OCCURS TO US INDIVIDUALLY, RATHER.
A GROUP. BECAUSE SOMETHING JUMPS OUT AND EVERYBODY SEES IT.
I DON'T KNOW HOW IT WORKED THAT WELL, BUT I.
I GUESS. I GUESS, YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, IT FEELS RIGHT WHEN EVERYBODY SEEMS TO BE.
TUNING INTO WHAT THAT IS? I DON'T KNOW. I JUST.
I WOULD LIKE TO COME OUT OF IT WITH A FRESH.
MIND RATHER THAN A. I DON'T KNOW IF I GET YOU ANY MORE CONFLICTS OR NOT.
I'M NOT SURE THAT IT DOES BECAUSE WE WENT DOWN TO THREE ANYWAY AND THEN GETTING ONE OF THOSE FINAL THREE WILL PROBABLY BE A GOOD CHOICE.
IT'S JUST. WE'VE ALREADY HAD THIS SORTED THROUGH WITH ALL OF THE INPUT FROM THE COMMUNITY AND EVERYTHING ELSE, THE PEOPLE THAT WE HIRED TO DO THE JOB, THE SCREENING IN THE FIRST PLACE. YOU KNOW, THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD PRESENT US WITH A TIERED LIST.
AND THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT FIT ALL YOUR CRITERIA THAT.
I THINK WOULD BE A VERY GOOD FIT.
THEN HERE'S THE PEOPLE THAT ARE CLOSE TO BEING A GOOD FIT, BUT NOT QUITE AS GOOD AS THESE. THE REST.
IT'S KIND TO BE A GOOD CHUNK OF THE WORK IS ALREADY DONE.
JUST DON'T KNOW THE. I JUST DON'T KNOW.
I THINK WE'RE GOING TO END UP WITH THREE GOOD CANDIDATES.
AND LIKE SAID, WE'RE ALL GOING TO HAVE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT PRIORITIES, BUT.
AND WE WILL HAVE THAT MARCH 8TH MEETING WHERE WE CHOOSE THE TEN OR WHATEVER FOR THE SIX SEMIFINALISTS.
SO WE'LL DO DISCUSSION THEN AND THEN WHEN WE WIN THAT DOWN, JUST AN EXTRA WOULD BE GAINED BY HAVING A.
I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE ALL GO THROUGH AND SPEND A GOOD AMOUNT OF TIME ON THAT LIST BECAUSE LIKE I SAID, THERE ARE DEFINITELY IN WHAT I SAW IN MY FIRST RUN THROUGH IT BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT TO DIGEST THERE.
YOU KNOW, THERE'S DEFINITELY SOME TRENDS AND THINGS THAT WAY.
I'M SURE DURING THE PROCESS THERE'S A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF FILTERING THAT'S GOING TO GO ON BEFORE WE GET THERE.
AND I JUST I DON'T WANT TO SEE A LOT OF FILTERING GOING ON.
I WOULD LIKE US TO BE PART OF THE FILTERING PROCESS.
YOU KNOW, SO WE GET THAT OPPORTUNITY.
ARE WE GOING TO GET TO SEE EVERYBODY MEAN ALL THE APPLICANTS? THAT'S THAT'S WHAT CELINA WILL HAVE IN THE BINDERS.
YOU'LL HAVE ACCESS TO ALL THE APPLICATIONS, ALL THE INFORMATION FROM EVERYBODY.
THAT RIGHT THERE. SO WITHIN THOSE, THEY'RE GOING TO BE SORTED ON WHAT THEY THINK ARE BEST FIT. OKAY? YEAH. THAT'S WHAT THEY INDICATED.
YEAH, THEY'LL DO SOME VETTING AS FAR AS I MEAN, THEY'RE GOING TO VET TO MAKE SURE THAT REFERENCES ARE THAT PEOPLE'S EDUCATION AND THEIR THEIR QUALIFICATIONS ALL MATCH AND THEN THEY WILL FIT AS FAR AS WHAT FITS IN WITH THE CRITERIA OF WHAT WE'VE ALREADY TOLD THEM WHEN WE HAD OUR INITIAL INTERVIEWS AND, AND THE COMMUNITY INTERVIEWS AND SUCH, THE, THE COMMUNITY SURVEY, AS I UNDERSTAND IT, IS JUST YET ANOTHER TOOL TO GET THE INPUT BEYOND WHAT WE HAD AS FAR AS THE FOCUS GROUPS.
YEAH. SO THEY DO AN EVALUATION, BUT THERE'S NO FILTERING.
YOU GET ACCESS TO EVERYBODY THAT YOU GET TO PICK.
YOU COULD PICK C CANDIDATES IF YOU WANT IT TO.
LIKE THESE WERE THE MOST COMMON COMMENTS.
THESE ARE THE MOST THAT THEY ALREADY HAD SORTED OUT.
[02:20:01]
SO THEY DID THAT FROM THE COMMUNITY GROUPS THAT THEY DID INITIALLY WHEN WE HAD THE INTERVIEWS AND EACH OF US HAD OUR INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEWS AND THEN THE COMMUNITY SURVEY IS JUST ANOTHER TOOL TO TRY AND EXPAND THAT SCOPE AND JUST GET MORE COMMUNITY INPUT.SO IN SOME REGARDS, IT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN IN LIGHT OF IN CONJUNCTION WITH THAT SURVEY OR THE STUDY GROUPS THAT WERE DONE INITIALLY.
BECAUSE THERE'S GOING TO BE THERE'S DEFINITELY, FROM WHAT I REMEMBER FROM THAT, SOME OVERLAP, BUT THERE'S SOME NEW IDEAS AND DIFFERENT THINGS THAT CAME OUT AND IT'S EVERYTHING, RIGHT? I MEAN, THAT'S WHY YOU GET THE THE SAME PERSON THAT FILLED OUT EIGHT DIFFERENT VERSIONS. YOU GOT ALL OF IT RIGHT.
I MEAN, WHEN WE DID OUR SKINS, THEY COMPILE OUR INFORMATION AND SHOW WHERE OUR COMMON GROUND, OUR MOST COMMON.
IT'S SOMETHING THAT I COULD HAVE SWORN THAT THEY THEY THEY GAVE YOU SOME COMMON THEMES AND SOME GROUP ALIKE, BUT NOTHING WAS FILLED OR YOU GOT ACCESS TO EVERYBODY'S COMMENT ON EVERYTHING. BUT THEY DID DO SOME SORTING AND GATHERING FOR YOU.
DID THEY TAKE JUST THE BOARD'S INPUT AND SAY, OKAY, AS FAR AS THE BOARD MEMBERS GO, THESE WERE THE PRIORITIES? I THOUGHT THEY DID.
IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT THE REPORT FROM THE.
AND THAT IS THAT SOUNDS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU'RE DESCRIBING.
YEAH, THAT'S WHAT. EVERYONE IS.
SO THE REPORT FROM THE FOCUS GROUPS, THEY TOOK THE COMMON THEMES FIRST FOCUS GROUPS.
THE SURVEY REPORTS ARE THE EXACT.
YEAH. AND SO BUT THEY HAVE THE FOCUS GROUPS BROKEN, BROKEN DOWN BY GROUPS.
SO THERE WAS AN INDIVIDUAL PLANNING FORWARD GROUP, RIGHT.
WHERE THEY COMPILE ALL OF OUR STUFF LIKE THAT.
OKAY. YEAH. AND THEY, THEY TOOK THAT AND TOOK THE MAIN THEMES, WHEREAS THE SURVEY YOU GET, YOU'VE GOT ALL THE RAW DATA.
SO THERE'S NO THERE'S NO COMPILING, WHEREAS IN THE FOCUS GROUPS WITH 15 PEOPLE SAID AYE AND ONE PERSON SAID B YOU MIGHT NOT HEAR B YOU JUST GOT A.
WHEREAS IN THE SURVEY YOU GOT A, A, A, A AND B, YEAH.
I MEAN, I'M CERTAINLY OPEN TO IF PEOPLE THINK THAT IT WOULD BE VALUABLE TO HAVE SOME DISCUSSION OF THAT BEFOREHAND OR IF READING THROUGH THOSE AND COMING AS WE HAVE AS WE GO THROUGH THOSE APPLICATIONS, LOOKING THAT IN LIGHT OF WHAT WE SEE FROM THE COMMUNITY'S INPUT AND.
PARDON ME? PART OF ME LIKES THE IDEA OF A GROUP DISCUSSION.
PART OF ME LIKES A LITTLE BIT OF SEARCHING THROUGH IT INDEPENDENTLY JUST TO KIND OF SEE, BECAUSE WE'RE ALL GOING TO HAVE A LITTLE DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE OF WHAT COMES OUT OF THAT, THOSE PUBLIC COMMENTS.
AND WITH THAT, THAT BRINGS MORE DIVERSITY TO IT.
AND I THINK PART OF IT, AS WE SELECT THOSE ESSENTIALLY SIX FINALISTS OR SEMIFINALISTS, I GET CONFUSED AS TO WHAT TERM I'M SUPPOSED TO USE.
I THINK PART OF THAT DISCUSSION IS GOING TO PROBABLY COME OUT AS WE LOOK AT THE STRENGTHS AND. THE QUALIFICATIONS OF EACH MEMBER TO.
THINK WE COULD DO A SHORT PREAMBLE AND.
SO KIND OF START WITH THE SHORT.
SO YOU LEAN TOWARDS THE SHORT LITTLE ON THE EIGHTH.
HALF AN HOUR. MY PHONE MESSAGES WERE OR.
THEN IT KIND OF GIVES THEM SOME.
TRANSPARENCY TO THE COMMUNITY, TOO, AS WE WE'RE THINKING.
OR LIKE THESE PEOPLE BECAUSE THIS STUFF WAS IMPORTANT TO HER AND THIS WAS IMPORTANT TO HER. IT SEES THAT THAT'S IMPORTANT TO.
YEAH. I COULD SEE THAT JUST BEING A.
REVOLVING CONVERSATION THAT DOESN'T END IF THERE'S NOT A TIME LIMIT AND IN THOSE BEFORE.
SO I GUESS I NEVER I GUESS I WOULD LEAN TOWARDS A SIMILAR TYPE OF THING, SPENDING A
[02:25:08]
LITTLE TIME, YOU KNOW, JUST KIND OF GOING THROUGH.THAT AHEAD OF TIME AND THEN MOVING INTO OUR EXECUTIVE SESSION.
WELL, I'M NOT GOING TO BE THE PERSON THAT.
THINKING HARD AS THE REST OF YOU SAYING THAT YOU.
KIND OF HAVE A FRESH PERSPECTIVE, NOT COLORED BY ANYBODY ELSE'S.
I THINK IT'S I THINK TO THAT END, IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE ALL SPEND THE TIME AHEAD OF TIME GOING THROUGH AND KIND OF GETTING OUR TAKE ON IT, BECAUSE IT'D BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THE INDIVIDUAL TAKES MESH UP.
IS THAT WORK FOR YOU, STEVE, OR.
YEAH. I MEAN, I'M JUST MY THOUGHTS ARE.
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE.
AND SO I WOULD I WOULD GO ALONG WITH THIS THAT.
SO. AND THEN WHEN WE GET INTO EXECUTIVE WE.
DEPENDING ON HOW MANY APPLICANTS WE HAVE.
THAT COULD BE A LOT OF HASHING.
AND SO DEFINITELY I THINK IT'S A CRITICAL POINT, ONE OF GOING THROUGH THOSE COMMUNITY SURVEYS, PROBABLY GOING BACK AND REVIEWING THE INPUT WE HAD FROM THOSE FOCUS GROUPS AND THEN GETTING SET UP WITH CELINA ONCE THOSE APPLICATIONS ARE IN TO GO THROUGH THOSE.
BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY WE DON'T WANT TO BE SEEING THE APPLICATION FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT NIGHT. THERE'S GOING TO BE A LOT OF INFORMATION THERE TO READ AND AND LOOK AT AND. LIKE SHE SAYS, PLAN ON AT LEAST A COUPLE OF HOURS, IF NOT MORE.
BECAUSE I THINK, IF I RECALL CORRECTLY, WITHIN THE APPLICATIONS, THEY'RE ASKED TO WRITE VARIOUS PIECES.
SO THERE'S GOING TO BE STUFF TO READ AND GO THROUGH AND DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WAY.
WELL, WE WILL SET THAT UP AND WE'LL GET THAT AGENDA OUT SO THAT PEOPLE KNOW THAT WE START OUT AS PARTIALLY.
OPEN MEETING AND THEN WE GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION.
OKAY. ANYTHING ELSE TO SHARE FROM BOARD MEMBERS? THEN I WILL MOVE ON TO MARK.
SHE IS GOING TO ATTEND THE 37TH ANNUAL WASHINGTON SAVE INDIAN EDUCATION ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE. APRIL 4TH THROUGH THE SIXTH.
AND SHE WOULD LIKE TO INVITE ALL OF.
SOME OF THE BOARD MEMBERS OR SOME TO ATTEND THAT AS WELL.
SO JACKSONVILLE FORWARD THE INVITATION THAT WE HAVE FROM JESSE.
UM, TO YOU. SO YOU HAVE THE INFORMATION ON THAT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND AND LET.
JACKSON. I KNOW WE WILL MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR YOU.
DO YOU KNOW WHERE IT IS? IT IS IN SUQUAMISH.
AND IF WE HAVE MORE THAN TWO PEOPLE GO, WE'D HAVE TO HAVE IT AN ADVERTISEMENT.
OKAY. ANYTHING ELSE? NO. I THINK JOHN'S GOING TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON THE.
AND IS THIS IN REGARDS TO MASKS OR.
THE UPDATE IS KIND OF A NON UPDATE.
I'M SURE YOU HEARD THAT THE THE GOVERNOR MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT LAST LAST WEEK THAT.
THAT ON THE 21ST THE MASK MANDATE IS GOING TO BE LIFTED.
WHAT THAT MEANS FOR US, THERE'S A LOT OF UNKNOWNS.
ESPECIALLY WITH THE RELATIONSHIP THAT WE HAVE WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT.
WHAT WE DO KNOW IS THAT THERE'S NO CHANGE UNTIL THE 21ST.
I'M MEETING WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT A WEEK FROM TODAY TO KIND OF GO THROUGH IT AND SEE IF WE CAN GET SOME OF OUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED.
[02:30:01]
THEY GIVE US YOU CAN SAY THIS IN ONE OR TWO SENTENCES, AND THERE'S ALL SORTS OF COMPLEXITIES THAT COME ALONG WITH THAT.AND HOW DOES THIS IMPACT ALL OF OUR OTHER SAFETY PROTOCOLS AND.
I MEAN, THERE'S THERE'S JUST THERE'S A LOT OF QUESTIONS.
THE SCHOOL GUIDANCE IS SUPPOSED TO COME OUT ON THE SEVENTH AND THAT WILL FURTHER.
LAY OUT THE WAY WE'RE GOING TO HANDLE IT.
I'M IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING OUR EMPLOYEE GROUPS.
WE'LL DISCUSS KIND OF WHAT THAT MEANS.
WE DO HAVE AN MOU THAT APPLIES TO OUR OUR DIFFERENT GROUPS THAT SAYS MORE OR LESS THAT WE WILL FOLLOW THE DIRECTION FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR STAFF AND STUDENTS, THE DIRECTION OF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND OTHER HEALTH AUTHORITIES.
AND THAT'S WHAT THEY'VE ASKED FOR AND THAT'S WHAT WE'VE AGREED TO.
HOW THAT WORKS WITH WITH THIS LATEST CHANGE, I THINK IT'S FAIR FOR US TO SIT DOWN AND HAVE A CONVERSATION TOGETHER.
SO IN THE PROCESS OF ARRANGING, THOSE HAVE SIX DIFFERENT EMPLOYEE GROUPS.
SO I'M IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING THEM TO ARRANGE TO HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS.
FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, THOUGH, WE'VE WE'VE KIND OF OPERATED ON THREE GUIDING PRINCIPLES, AND YOU'VE HEARD US SAY IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
BUT THE FIRST THING IS WE PUT THE SAFETY OF OUR STAFF AND STUDENTS FIRST.
WE PROVIDE THE BEST EDUCATION POSSIBLE DURING THE WITH WHATEVER RESTRICTIONS ARE ARE THERE. AND THEN THE THIRD THING IS THAT WE WILL FOLLOW THE GUIDANCE OF THE THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT IN ORDER TO KNOW WHAT THE SAFEST PATH FORWARD IS DURING A TIME WHEN THERE'S ALL SORTS OF INFORMATION COMING FROM ALL SORTS OF DIRECTIONS, THAT THAT WILL BE OUR FILTER. SO AT THIS POINT, THAT'S KIND OF WHAT WE KNOW.
WE'VE GOT PLANS TO GET INFORMATION AND TO HAVE SOME CONVERSATIONS.
BY THE TIME WE THE 21ST COMES AROUND, WE'LL HAVE A MUCH CLEARER IDEA OF WHAT WHAT THE OVERALL IMPACT IS GOING TO GOING TO BE AND WHAT IT'S GOING TO LOOK LIKE HERE INSIDE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING, CORRECT OF WHAT I'VE SEEN IN YOU.
FEEL FREE TO SAY DON'T KNOW BECAUSE THAT IS PROBABLY THE MOST ACCURATE ANSWER.
BUT THE WAY I UNDERSTAND IT, THE WAY WHAT I'VE SEEN COME OUT IS SCHOOLS POTENTIALLY HAVE THE OPTION, BUT OUR SCHOOL BUSSES ARE STILL UNDER REQUIREMENTS.
THERE'S A THERE'S A DIFFERENT MANDATE THAT COVERS TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS LIKE BUSSES, PLANES, TRAINS, AUTOMOBILES.
RIGHT. OTHER QUESTIONS FOR JOHN, I THINK.
QUESTION SO THIS HAS BEEN ON MY MIND FOR A WHILE.
SO IF THE MASK MANDATE WERE TO BE LIFTED OR TO BE OPTIONAL, IF YOU WERE TO SAY, WELL, SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL ALSO BE LIFTED, IT'S A GREAT QUESTION.
SO I HAVE NOT HEARD A DISCUSSION ABOUT THAT.
BUT IT'S IMPORTANT THE WHOLE WAY THROUGH.
WE'VE SAID IF YOU TAKE AWAY ONE LAYER OF PROTECTION, YOU SHOULD ADD ANOTHER ONE SOMEWHERE ELSE.
IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE FOR ME TO GET RID OF THAT.
BUT I'M NOT THE ONE THAT'S STUDYING IT, I.
I'VE GOT SOME REALLY, REALLY GREAT PARTNERS THAT HAVE HELPED US TO KNOW WHAT THE SAFE THING TO DO IS, AND WE'LL FOLLOW THEM THIS TIME TO SAY THAT COULD BE INCLUDED IN THE MARCH SEVEN GUIDANCE THAT WE RECEIVE.
YEAH. I THINK THAT IT'S VERY REASONABLE THAT THEY'RE GOING TO EITHER AFFIRM OR AMEND THE SOCIAL DISTANCING.
THREE POINT. AND IS THAT MARCH 7TH? IS THAT COMING FROM THE STATE OR LOCAL OR COMBO OR THEY'LL COME FROM.
FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ARE PROBABLY SOME SORT OF COMBINATION THEREOF.
SO I THINK IT'S FAIR TO SAY, AS THROUGHOUT THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, AT THIS POINT IN TIME, WE HAVE MORE QUESTIONS THAN WE HAVE ANSWERS.
SO BY THE 21ST, WE SHOULD HAVE A LOT MORE ANSWERS.
SMART. THANKS. FOR ONE THING, IT'S NOT ABOUT MATH.
IF IT'S ABOUT BASKETBALL. YES, OF COURSE.
I DON'T WANT TO SAY THAT. WHAT I, I AM SAD, VERY, VERY SAD TO TO SAY THAT OUR
[02:35:05]
FERNDALE HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM LOST TONIGHT.THAT WAS NOT WHY I WANTED THE MIKE, THOUGH.
WHAT I WAS WANTING TO SHARE IS THAT YOU MAY BE AWARE.
I THINK WE HAVE MENTIONED IT BEFORE.
WE ARE USING OUR ESSER FUNDS OR A PORTION OF ESSER FUNDS FOR SOME ADOPTIONS.
SO WE DID ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS LAST YEAR AND WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A MATH ADOPTION RIGHT NOW, KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 10TH GRADE.
RIGHT NOW WE ARE PILOTING MATERIALS AND WE ARE WE'RE HOPING BY THE END OF THIS WEEK WE WILL HAVE THE COMMUNITY FEEDBACK PORTION LIVE AND ONLINE FOR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO HAVE THE OPTION AND OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW MATERIALS.
SO I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT IN PREPARATION FOR OUR PRESENTATION NEXT MONTH, WE WILL HAVE ALREADY TRIED TO SEEK THAT FEEDBACK.
SO JUST KNOW YOU WILL SEE SOME PROMOTION AND REQUEST FOR PARTICIPATION IN A FEEDBACK SURVEY ON MATH MATERIALS.
I WANTED TO SHARE IT. THAT YOU. THANK YOU.
KELLY. SO, ANYTHING ELSE FROM THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM? HEY. WITH THAT.
[8. SUPERINTENDENT CONSENT AGENDA [GC-2.4]]
[9. BOARD CONSENT AGENDA [GC-2.4]]
THAT BRINGS US ON DOWN TO THE ITEMS EIGHT AND NINE, THE SUPERINTENDENT CONSENT AGENDA AND THE BOARD CONSENT AGENDA.AND I KNOW THERE WERE SOME QUESTIONS IN REGARDS TO WHAT NOW IS ITEM 8.13, THE APPROVAL OF THE NEW POLICY 5515 AND SO AT THIS POINT, I WILL TAKE US TO THE SUPERINTENDENT CONSENT AGENDA.
AND I KNOW, PEGGY, YOU HAD SOME QUESTIONS NOT TO PUT YOU ON SPOT, BUT IF YOU WANTED.
YEAH, I DO. I WOULD STILL LIKE TO MOVE 8.13 TO THE NEXT MEETING BECAUSE I HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS. I MEAN, REALLY LOUD, YOU KNOW, IN REGARD TO, YOU KNOW, THIS WAS THE FIRST I'D HEARD OF IT. YOU SAID THAT THERE WAS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT.
AND SO I KNOW YOU CAN PROBABLY POINT TO THE LAW THAT REQUIRES IT.
IN ADDITION TO THAT, I JUST, YOU KNOW, WHAT'S THE FINANCIAL IMPACT ON IT? JUST READING THROUGH IT, IT'S LIKE, IS THIS IS THIS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT IS GOING TO BE OFFERED TO OTHER EMPLOYEES AS WELL AS IT'S JUST TO INVOLVE TEACHERS? IS THIS JUST A JUST A BUNCH OF QUESTIONS? IS THIS SOMETHING THAT'S GOING TO AFFECT EMPLOYMENT TERMS, THINGS LIKE THAT? AND WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS? ARE THEY ADMITTING THERE'S SOME KIND OF PROBLEM WITH SOME KIND OF HARM THAT'S BEEN DONE TO TEACHERS AS A RESULT OF A WORKPLACE PROBLEM? AND IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE COVERED BY ILLINOIS? I MEAN, IS I JUST HAD ALL THESE QUESTIONS THAT CAME TO ME WHEN I STARTED READING THIS THING, AND THIS IS THE FIRST I'VE EVER HEARD OF IT.
AND THERE WAS NO INFORMATION ATTACHED.
SO I WOULD ACTUALLY LIKE TO DISCUSS THIS WITH SOME OF THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS, YOU KNOW. HAVING MORE INFORMATION? YEAH. I FEEL LIKE YOU DISCUSS A WAY.
YOU GUYS CAN TALK ABOUT IT AS MUCH AS YOU'D LIKE.
THE LEGAL REFERENCES ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POLICY SO THAT THE 28 A IS THE SCHOOL LAW PROVISIONS IN THE STATE.
AND I DON'T KNOW IF IF FAN JOHN HAVE ANYTHING TO ADD IN TERMS OF WHAT THIS MEANS ON A OPERATIONAL STANDPOINT TO THE SCHOOL.
WE HAVE ACTUALLY HAD A DISTRICT WELLNESS COMMITTEE PRIOR TO COVID.
AND SO IT WOULD MEAN REALLY WHAT WE WOULD BE DOING IS BRINGING OUR COMMITTEE BACK AND WORKING TO SUPPORT OUR STAFF AND ALL STAFF, NOT JUST TEACHERS, ALL STAFF WITHIN OUR ORGANIZATION ON SECONDARY TRAUMATIC STRESS AND DETERMINING WHAT THEY NEED AND THEN WORKING TO SUPPORT THAT.
AND LIKE MARK SAID, THE CW, THIS REFERENCES IS LISTED WITHIN THE POLICY.
THE OTHER BIG PIECE OF THAT IS ACCORDING TO BOARD POLICY, WE MAINTAIN THE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, WHICH OFFERS SERVICES TO OUR OUR ENTIRE STAFF.
THAT INCLUDES INCLUDES COUNSELING AND AND OTHER SERVICES THAT FOLKS THAT ARE STRUGGLING
[02:40:05]
MIGHT MIGHT REQUIRE.SO MOST OF THESE THINGS ARE IN PLACE, BUT IT REQUIRES THAT WE MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE KNOW WHAT RESOURCES WE ARE PROVIDING THEM ALONG THE WAY.
I THINK OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, NOT NECESSARILY WITH FERNDALE SCHOOL SPECIFICALLY, BUT JUST IN GENERAL, I THINK TEACHERS HAVE FELT NOT SUPPORTED THAT IT'S A VERY HARD JOB.
WE HAVE PEOPLE LEAVING PROFESSION AND GOING ELSEWHERE.
AND SO EVEN IF THIS DOES HAVE A DIFFERENT COST.
THROUGH IT. THE COST OF LOSING PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT SUPPORTIVE, I THINK IS SOMETHING TO CONSIDER AS WELL TOO.
AND AGAIN, THAT DON'T HAVE ANY HARD NUMBERS ON ANYTHING WITH IT, BUT IT'S KIND OF TWO SIDES TO THE COST OF IT.
NOW. I JUST I MEAN, I'M CURIOUS, DOES THIS NIGHT NOT QUALIFY AS LIKE AN EMPLOYEE BENEFIT? YOU KNOW, IS THIS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO GO THROUGH, LIKE THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING PROCESS? SO IT IS THIS IS A OF OF ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY FOR ISDA THAT WE'RE LEGALLY REQUIRED TO HAVE IN PLACE AND FOR THE BOARD'S COHERENT GOVERNANCE MODEL.
THIS IS THIS IS WHAT YOU CHARGE US WITH DOING, IS MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE FOLLOWING THE LAW AND MAINTAINING COMPLIANCE WITH THE REQUIRED POLICIES.
AND THAT'S WHAT THIS IS IS IS A REQUIRED POLICY THAT WE'RE SUPPOSED TO HAVE IN PLACE.
WE ALSO CAN'T BARGAIN ANYTHING THAT'S CONTRARY TO LAW.
SO WE COULDN'T BARGAIN ANYTHING OTHER THAN ONCE IN THIS.
SO WHEN YOU CLICK ON THE SECOND LINK, THERE'S THE SECOND RC.
AND IF YOU CLICK ON THAT, THEN IT TAKES YOU TO A LIST OF A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT RC.
AND I THINK THE THIRD ONE DOWN WENT TO SECONDARY TRAUMATIC STRESS AND IT SAYS POLICY AND PROCEDURE. AND SO IT GOES THROUGH.
BUT ON NUMBER TWO, IT SAYS YOUR POLICY PROCEDURE MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS. SO IT LAYS OUT ALL THE ELEMENTS THAT ARE REQUIRED TO BE INCORPORATED WITHIN OUR POLICY PROCEDURE.
AND WE DO GET MODEL POLICY AND PROCEDURE TO PULL OFF OF, AND IT TELLS YOU WHAT WE HAVE TO INCLUDE IN THERE, WHICH IS WHAT YOU SEE THAT WE HAVE INCLUDED.
AND WHEN WE WERE WRITING THIS FROM THE MOBILE POLICY, FROM ONSTAR, WE ACTUALLY DID GO BACK AND CROSS-REFERENCE WITH THE CW TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IN THE CW WAS IN THE. YEAH.
IT'S PRETTY MUCH. I'VE GOT THAT PULLED UP.
IT'S PRETTY MUCH JUST A LIST OF.
AND IT SAYS BY THE BEGINNING OF THE 21, 22.
SCHOOL YEAR, EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT MUST ADOPT OR AMEND, IF NECESSARY, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES THAT AT MINIMUM INCORPORATE ALL THE ELEMENTS DESCRIBED IN SUBSECTION TWO OF THIS SECTION. SCHOOL DISTRICTS MUST PERIODICALLY REVIEW THIS POLICY.
THEIR POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR CONSISTENCY WITH UPDATED VERSIONS OF THE MODEL, POLICY AND PROCEDURES.
SO. SO THE CHAIR I'M CERTAINLY OPEN TO.
MOVE THIS OFF OF THE AGENDA TO BRING IT BACK NEXT MONTH.
AS I'M UNDERSTANDING FROM WHAT JOHN SAID, WE ARE QUOTE UNQUOTE, OUT OF COMPLIANCE BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T PASSED THIS, BUT I'M NOT SURE WHAT THAT.
BUT IT IS ONE THAT LOOKING THROUGH THIS LIST, BASICALLY THERE'S THERE'S NOT A LOT OF.
WHAT SORT? I'M LOOKING FOR WIGGLE ROOM IN THE SENSE OF HERE'S WHAT IT NEEDS TO SAY AND LET'S JUST PUT THAT TOGETHER.
AND AGAIN, I THINK IT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS WHERE, YOU KNOW, THE STATE LAW DICTATES THAT THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO HAVE FOR STATES.
WHICHEVER WAY YOU WANT TO SAY IT.
AND. FREQUENTLY THE STATE HAS LAWS.
ONE OF THE THINGS NOT SO MUCH THE.
BUT THE UNFUNDED MANDATE ASPECT THAT BOSTON IS FOND OF TALKING ABOUT IS A LOT OF THESE THINGS ARE SET UP AND.
[02:45:02]
THE FUNDING IS NOT THE STATE'S CONCERN.THE STATE'S CONCERN IS THIS IS THE POLICY AND THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO.
AND THAT'S ONE OF THE CHALLENGES THAT FRUSTRATES ALL SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AS THEY GET ONTO IT. FROM OUR GENERAL BUDGET WHERE THEY SAY, HERE'S THE PREDATOR BUSINESS MODEL AND THEY HAD A POT OF MONEY AND THEY SAY, SPEND IT HOW YOU LIKE, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THIS. THEY GIVE YOU BASED ON THE MODEL.
I MEAN, ALL OF THIS HAS COME ABOUT AS A RESULT OF.
NOW, THIS ISN'T A COVID RELATED ONE.
I MEAN, THE ADDITIONAL STRESS I WOULD STRESS BEFORE COVID.
THAT THAT IS I MEAN, REALISTICALLY SAID AND IT IS A FRUSTRATION THIS IS MY MY GUESS IS AS FAR AS UNFUNDED MANDATES GO, THIS IS PROBABLY PRETTY SMALL IN THE FUNDING SCOPE AS COMPARED TO A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT THEY SAY HERE.
YOU NEED TO DO THIS AS A DISTRICT AND OH, YEAH, THAT'S GOING TO COST YOU EXTRA MONEY.
DO YOU THINK SOME OF THIS OVERLAPS INTO? YEAH. WE THINK THAT THE EPA IS GOING TO PROVIDE SOME OF THE RESOURCES TO FILL SOME OF THIS. OTHER BIG ONE THAT THEY MENTIONED WAS A WELLNESS COMMITTEE WE THINK CAN BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE MATCHING WHAT'S NEEDED BY THEIR EMPLOYEES TO WHAT WE'RE PROVIDING.
AND AGAIN, IF PEOPLE ARE MORE COMFORTABLE, YOU KNOW, I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM MOVING IT TO NEXT MONTH. I DON'T KNOW.
UNFORTUNATELY, IT'S NOT GOING TO CHANGE A WHOLE LOT.
THAT WOULD GIVE MORE TIME TO UNDERSTAND IT BETTER.
I PERSONALLY WOULD BE IN FAVOR OF.
APPROVING IT. IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE'VE HAD.
AND THERE ARE GOING TO BE MORE POLICIES LIKE THIS THAT WE HAVE TO UPDATE ON A REGULAR BASIS. AND IF WE.
TAKE THEM OFF YOU THEN PUT THEM FOREVER.
WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT LATER.
THEN WE'RE GOING TO GET OUT OF COMPLIANCE AND A LOT OF POTENTIALLY A LOT MORE THINGS.
AND I WOULDN'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN.
BECAUSE IT'S PART OF THE LAWS OF WASHINGTON AND FOR THE OATH AND ALL THAT.
AND I GUESS I WOULD ECHO THAT.
AND IN AS FAR AS POLICIES GO, THIS ONE'S PRETTY.
INERT COMPARED TO SOME OF THE OTHERS AS FAR AS THE IMPACT ON THE DISTRICT AND.
QUOTE UNQUOTE, QUOTE UNQUOTE, CONTROVERSIAL NATURE.
SO. UNLESS THERE'S FURTHER DISCUSSION, THE CHAIR WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION SO THAT WE CAN ADDRESS THE CONSENT AGENDA ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, AND THEN WE CAN MOVE FORWARD.
I WILL MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE SUPERINTENDENT SUPERINTENDENT CONSENT AGENDA AS WELL AS THE BOARD'S CONSENT AGENDA AS ATTACHED HERE TO OUR.
OKAY. BECAUSE I FORGOT TO SAY IT EARLIER.
I WILL SAY IT JUST FOR COMPLETENESS.
THE CONSENT AGENDAS ARE A GROUP OF ITEMS THAT THE BOARD HAS HAD ACCESS TO AHEAD OF TIME, AND THE RULES AND REGS THAT GOVERN OUR MEETINGS ALLOW US TO APPROVE THESE ALL IN ONE MOTION AS OPPOSED TO EACH ITEM INDIVIDUALLY.
THERE IS A MOTION ON THE FLOOR TO APPROVE BOTH THE SUPERINTENDENT CONSENT AGENDA AND THE BOARD BOARD CONSENT AGENDA.
AT THIS TIME, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING I.
AND SO THEN THAT TAKES US TO ITEM TEN, WHICH IS
[02:50:09]
ADJOURNMENT. AND THERE'S NO EXECUTIVE SESSION TONIGHT.SO AT THIS POINT, I WILL DECLARE OUR MEETING
ADJOURNED.
